That does bring up an interesting potential problem for Apple. As tablet screen sizes get larger, the lack of any kind of simultaneous multitasking (i.e. split screen) becomes an ever more glaringly obvious problem. On a phone or 8" tablet, you can justify the lack of it. On a 10" tablet, the justification becomes shaky. At 12" and above, I think it is a real problem. The A7 chip is certainly powerful enough to handle it, so I hope Apple is prepared to support that on the software side when (if) they release their larger tablet.

Absolutely. This is why I loved Quasar back in the iOS5 times on my JB'n iPad 3...

I love my iPad 4 dearly, and rarely go anywhere without it. But I certainly understand one's interest in a 12" Note. Artists will have a large canvas in which they can harness the power of the S Pen's precision and palm rejection. An engineer or architect would love it for the same, aforementioned reasons. Business professionals and doctors who value every pixel of screen real estate will jump all over this thing. Bigger screen means more information can be displayed IF a developer utilizes it and doesn't just blow up their existing software to fit the now bigger display. In-house developers on the other hand, would build their software from scratch, which is what many companies, hospitals, etc. have. I dunno. Kinda cool but you can keep it, thanks. :)

Plot Twist:

There is no iPad Pro planned.
You've all been drooling over rumors for what was actually this Samsung tablet the entire time.

:D;)

It multi tasks, so that definitely wasn't copied from Apple. :)

I wish Apple did copy Samsung in this case :)I'm afraid they'll stick with their simple one-task large-iPod touch iOS and refuse to implement windowed multitasking.

----------

Son of a mother!

Time to bring the big guns! (iPad Pro with 4K, 4G LTE, 512 GB of storage, and 4GB of RAM)

And Wacom, and windowed multitasking, if possible...

----------

Well ask anyone with a Note and they will tell you different. I do believe Samsung were the first to bring a device like the S Pen to market? even before the MS Surface pro, I think? And the fact Wacom made it means it's going to work well and hardly 'copying' anyone.

So on that front they are innovative, it's a great interaction tool with a 12.1" screen. As for the rest they are pretty much the same as every other Android tab bar Samsung make their own CPU's.

In addition to Wacom, also add windowed multitasking, which is also innovative and not present in iOS.

----------

I hope you don't seriously think Apple is Innovating...

But they do! They've changed the colors and icons in iOS7! :D

/sarcasm

----------

12 inch Android is too big. Omg, 20 inch iPad, it's PERFECT!

It'd indeed be- with an additional x86 CPU, OS X, 4k screen, Wacom and all-around high-end specs. I'd be the first to purchase it.

That new Samsung interface looks fairly similar to the HTC one. I'm guessing they are thinking users want their information in a flipboard type home screen.

I'm multitasking on 3 apps right now on iOS. No sure what your talking about.

That's up to 4 apps on display at the same time. Not one app on display and others running in the background. Even if iOS had that built in there is not enough ram on any iDevice to make it possible. Exactly why this tablet has 3 gigs of ram.
The phone optimized apps works to Samsung's advantage when it comes to multi window.

Despite all the hate, Samsung makes pretty good products, just not as good as Apple IMO. But I have to say, 4 apps at once? When I saw how the surface could snap and run two apps at the same time, I thought that's what I was waiting for but now this! The possibilites are endless, this makes the device a big player when it comes to work productivity. This the closest to a true laptop replacement. iPad is great for doing one thing, but when I create a document for instance, I go to my mac. I flip between the internet, word processor, and iMessage. Will definitely buy an iPad Pro if I can do all this on the screen at once. It would also mean my portable device is so powerful I can go for that long sought after iMac :)

As longtime iOS user, i can only drool on those true multitasking videos.

Will iOS ever get multitasking?
With 12" it would be more useful than ever. You could have Garageband running and open Moog Filter on the side.

Looks like a good tablet, I guess.

The best thing is, now there's a 12 inch tablet in the wild, Android fanboys won't be able to insult the size of the iPad Pro.

t's almost as if Samsung thinks quantity = innovation, or at least that's what the public perception will be.
...and that's exactly what counts! The public perception is key to Sales and if Samsung should manage to grab the "innovation crown" from Apple in public perception, then Apple is in for a lot of trouble!

Useless with only 7 tablet optimized apps in goolge play...

I find comments like this to be hilarious - funny the poster makes NO mention that Apple has chosen NOT to optimize iOS 7 for their iPad line - now that's what I call useless.

As others have mentioned, Not exactly a far stretch to think Samsung would come out with something in this size.

Considering they are also competing with other Android Manufacturers, as well as Microsoft, it is a size segment that people have been asking for. Would be curious how much Samsung knows about Apple's future products, by being a component supplier for chips and displays themselves.

Unlike iOS, Android has proper support for multitasking and Samsung's smartphones with bigger screens can run and display multiple apps simultaneously.

I don't think that tablets in general are useful at all, but at least Samsung's models support true multitasking.

While it is limited, iOS has had "true multitasking" since day #1 with regards to some limited functions.

am i the only one who doesn't see why one would need a bigger screen? the regular iPad is more than enough for most apps, unless it was able to multitask i don't see the purpose.

I can see a use for it (running mobile versions of productivity apps like photoshop which would benefit from more screen estate), but right now, the problem is there is no software which optimises the use of such a large screen or all those killer specs.

And the problem is that unless the 12.2" Tab can somehow reach critical mass, developers simply aren't going to bother creating touch-optimised versions of power apps that uses those specs.

So basically all you can do is to run Facebook, twitter side by side while surfing the web with a video playing above (and which you are probably not paying attention to anyways?)! :D

Except at some point (and it may already be happening) the public will get sick of Samsung 24/7. Samsung has tried very hard and spent a lot of money to cultivate a brand but flooding the market with every product under the sun just dilutes the brand IMO.

They keep making tablets and tablets but if they still have a Android OS they will always suck :)

Why? At least people do have something to choose from. Wacom support and large screen? You have it. Wacom + smaller screen? You have it. No need for Wacom for a lesser price? You have it.

What about Apple? Two sizes, no Wacom, no other variables.

In reality Samsung are going from being Apple copycats to Apple placeholders.

Apple copycats...REALLY...where can I buy a 12" Apple iPad - I just looked in the store this morning and didn't see one - spiking the Apple juice this early in the morning - fanboyz are are downright funny!

hands on with the 12.1-inch Galaxy NotePro, noting that it "simply isn't designed for optimal portability" and that it is awkward to hold for long periods of time. Weighing in at 1.66 lbs with a 2560x1600 pixel display at 247 ppi, the device is significantly larger than the iPad Air.

The ipad 1 is 1.6 lbs. bigger size means more weight.

----------

I'm still convinced that iPad Pro and iWatch, etc, are all huge trolls by Apple precisely to get Samsung scrambling to release a sub-standard product in the race to claim "First!"

ToasterFridge next!

People want the bigger tablets. I sure do.

And that's why Apple is doomed... clearly.

;)

There is a lot of corporate espionage. Spies all over the place. I bet Sammy knows just about everything Apple is going to do and since Sammy is not just a leader in tech they are also a leader in tech manufacturing.
So how hard would have it been for Samsung to make a large a** note?
It's a cake walk!
And how much you want to bet Samsung makes generic large screen tablets for other folks to pimp this year. LOL!

I don't think anyone doubts that Samsung would almost definitely have not released this, were it not for the iPad Pro rumors.

OK, provided that we can agree that if the iPad Pro turns out to feature split-screen multi-tasking and a proper 'Wacom style' inductive, pressure-sensitive stylus - just like the existing Galaxy Note phablets and tablets - that the same is true of Apple.

(And if any iPad Pro doesn't come with a decent stylus and a 'pro' version of iOS then forget it).

Ditto if the rumors of a large-screen iPhone turn out to be true.

Then of course there's the new notification and control bars in iOS 7 which Samsung (not sure if they were a generic Android feature) users may find oddly familiar…

Not that I'm suggesting that the earlier Galaxy phones and tablets - and Android's sudden transformation from keyboard/trackball to touch - didn't borrow from the iPhone - but that's how technology evolves in anything vaguely approximating a free market.

As for the big tablets - (be they Samsung or Apple) - I think that there's a niche for graphics work (hence the need for a decent stylus) and I'm actually working with a project using stylus technology for doing school math on tablets (for which the new Samsung might be perfect - but its still a niche).

However, the sticking point is the need for a keyboard for serious office/productivity work. 12" is still a bit small to fit a decent on-screen keyboard without wasting most of the screen (although I'm glad to see that the new Samsung has a 16:10 screen - using the 16:9 Note 10.1 in landscape mode with an on-screen keyboard is a joke). IMHO as soon as you couple a tablet with a physical keyboard, the tablet ergonomics go out the window and you're better off with a laptop + mouse.

So really, with a 12" tablet, don't think of it as a tablet, more as a cheaper way to get that Wacom Cintiq (http://uk.shop.wacom.eu/products/ci...Shopping-Ads&gclid=COvF0fye7LsCFYkBwwodCGIAMw) you've been drooling over...
