Amazing if they based it on this site and manufactured a 12" tablet in less than a week! And coming out with a watch at least a year before if/when Apple does. Samsung must be able to see into the future.

Why not? A company with huge capital and capability as Samsung could make anything. Fast.

  • They already have the display, 12.9" right away from laptop division .. Check
  • Now make Note 10.1 chassis larger then make one million of it for next week .. Check
  • Slap the logic board here, battery there, antenna here and radios there .. Check
  • Copy .. Check
  • Sell .. Check

Maybe that's why most Samsung Android lines feels underwhelming, both in physical design or experience. So many features in such a little time.

I think you'd have to be pretty dumb to consider ANY tablet "pro" right now.

I just bought a Sony Vaio Duo 13, and I really think that's the right direction for portability, while still having USB ports, a card reader, and running a full operating system.

I'm not so sure. The larger iPad rumours have been around for maybe 6 months max. I don't know but I suspect it takes a lot longer than 6 months to design and engineer a 12" tablet with a new UI. Samsung's strategy seems very simple - try and make a device for every possible size requirement. I don't think the rumours surrounding an iPad Pro had anything to do with their decision making.

Tablets will eventually replace laptops, so it just makes sense to make larger screen versions. I wouldn't be surprised if they released a 14" version next year. The other day I even saw an 18" Dell tablet with a stand to put it on so it looks like a desktop. So tablets could even replace desktops one day.

It's clearly a business focussed device. Businesses tend to spend their IT budgets at the start of the year rather than at Christmas time.

Well then how about Galaxy Gear? I believe before Apple rumors of iWatch, Samsung does not take it seriously even after Pebble made it to the market.

All since reading it on MacRumors 5 days ago! Samsung is fast!

I'm curious how many people can actually focus on four things at once.

Exactly! People want to be in a facetime call while doing other things, so they can ignore the person on the other end in the same way they ignore their friends while going out to dinner and typing away on their iphone.

LOL maybe not 5 days ago. Maybe Samsung has heard about it far before it made the front page article here. I'd say 3 or 4 months is enough for Samsung to have an idea of something to make millions of it in the market.

All I'm saying is mostly they take Apple prototypes and future possibilites more seriously. It's apparently better to be the first and failed then being a "me too"

Or maybe they've been working on it for a while since they already make tablets in 15 different sizes.

That tiled interface reminds me of Windows 1.0, but with sharper and more colorful graphics:

That Samsung looks ugly but I love it as it works as a proof of concept. I can't wait for a bigger screen Apple iPad. I read a lot of digital magazines and the increase screen area will make the experience so much more comfortable.

Maybe you're right .. ;)

I dont know but a few times I can see Samsung panic and silly moves. You ever heard Samsung tried to sell SGS 4 gold edition short after iphone 5S launch? I dont think it's a good publicity stunt. Samsung claimed they made some gold colored phones far before. But really, would you believe that?

And there is also 64bit arm which Samsung all of so sudden take interest in for their own exynos.. Hmm.

Wow it looks like Samsung's new strategy is to quickly whip together a product BEFORE Apple releases it so it isn't so obvious that they copied...hmmm. It seems like that's what happened with the smartwatch too.

No matter what Samsung does the people here will not acknowledge it; this is an Apple site. Samsung is just relentless when it comes to product releases. While some products are clear duds you got to give it to Samsung for being so aggressive. It will take about 2 more smart watches for them to get it right but at least they don’t give up.
Anybody remember the very first tablet Samsung came out with and what Steve Jobs said about it? Now look.

What good does it do anyone if Samsung releases a dud? Why not wait a little longer and get the product right on the first version?

Samsung released a terrible product in the Galaxy Gear. The proof is that the return rate is rumored to be 30%. I can think of a whole host of problems with the Gear. For starters, it doesn't look great on one's wrist. Secondly, the Gear requires a Galaxy phone in order to use the majority of its functionality. It's almost marketed as a phone accessory. Also, the battery life is one day. How did Samsung keep a straight face when they mentioned that?

Sure, this is a starter product. But that's not an excuse for releasing a product with obvious issues. If Samsung releases a better version and a better version on top of that, they don't deserve any credit for "being aggressive."

The criticism of Samsung is that it seems like they are reacting to rumors about Apple's product releases. For example, smartwatches weren't on anyone's radar before we heard about the iWatch. All of a sudden, a rumor surfaces that Apple is working a smartwatch and lo and behold, smartwatches become the new craze. We hear about Microsoft, Google, and everybody else working on smartwatch. Again with the so-called iPad Pro, the same thing seems to happen. We've been hearing for a while about how everyone wants a smaller tablet, about how 7-inch was the craze. Apple releases the iPad Mini. Then, we now hear about Apple working on a 12-inch iPad and suddenly, we hear about Samsung putting out a 12-inch tablet.

Maybe Samsung was working on these products beforehand, but it seems really fishy that the buzz about Samsung working on these products seems to pick up following a rumor about Apple working on a similar product.

I didn't hear about the gold S4, but if it came after the gold 5S was announced, then it sure sounds like copying on their part. My guess is that all of these companies have been experimenting with various size tablets, Apple included. The iPad mini appeared after Jobs said there was no point in a smaller tablet, so I won't be surprised when a larger iPad like device appears. A larger iPad running iOS as we currently know it isn't going to replace a laptop, IMO.

Just seen the Samsung can also multitask four apps and have them on screen at once! This is great as it means you can get on with some real computing work. I've tried app switching whilst working on an iPad and it obviously is heavy going because it's not mean to be used in that way. I really hope the Apple Maxi Pad can do this.

Apple Leaks

I still think the 12 inch display will be for a Macbook Air Retina
I dont know if anyone has realized this but funny thing is Apple has been able to keep its innovations secret. Like nobody really knew about finger print scanner until it was like way late in the game same with gold iPhone and the same with 64 bit chip. It seems as though apples real innovations aren't being said for months at a time more like a month or week in advance. So im thinking this whold ipad pro thing is bs because no one would of truly known until up to the point an news of ipad pro was thought of like way back in aug correct me if im wrong. Also it could be that samsung was involved with some iwatch info leaked from apple on purpose maybe same with ipad pro since they do manufacture some apple parts :apple:

That does bring up an interesting potential problem for Apple. As tablet screen sizes get larger, the lack of any kind of simultaneous multitasking (i.e. split screen) becomes an ever more glaringly obvious problem. On a phone or 8" tablet, you can justify the lack of it. On a 10" tablet, the justification becomes shaky. At 12" and above, I think it is a real problem. The A7 chip is certainly powerful enough to handle it, so I hope Apple is prepared to support that on the software side when (if) they release their larger tablet.
This should actually be easy for apple to accomplish. Even if its just putting two iPhone apps on screen as opposed to one iPad app if ya catch my drift.

True. But since all Samsung does is copy Apple rumors, where is the curved Galaxy phone?

Galaxy Round? On the Market.

The product has some interesting aspects.

I liked the weight - 753g is more or less what my iPad 3 currently weights in its (admittedly heavy) case. I doubt very much an iPad Pro from Apple would weight more than the Samsung's equivalent, so that's a good sign.

I think Apple's main issue with an iPad Pro would be using the exact same iOS found on iPhones to fill the significantly larger screen. Samsung approach has been interesting - they have tweaked the user interface for the bigger device, as well as improving multitasking. If Apple can also tweak iOS so an iPad Pro would allow multitasking ("real" multitasking, for the Apple fanboys) as well as have a better keyboard, it could become a great productivity tool.

Apple could really mess with them by generating fake rumors. "Apple rumored to produce 30" iPad Maxi". They'd follow.

If you use email often enough, you can do it without thinking like how you can walk and talk. You'd probably burn your eyes out before you actually achieve that level of parallelization, though.

It's not about patents, just who is following who. I don't see anyone here calling for a lawsuit based on this.

If someone is writing me an email without thinking, I dont want to waste my time reading it.

So they're doing the galaxy gear route again. Rush something to the market to beat Apple (based on rumors) to it. I'm sure this will have just as much flaws as the gear, if not more.
