Exactly! I thought I was one of the only ones who though this! Let me sample how it would be if Apple had this happen:

-Apple is DOOMED!
-Apple's quality has really slipped!
-This wouldn't have happened if Steve was still alive.
-I'm switching to Android, what a mess Apple has become.
-Apple sucks.
-Better sell your Apple shares now, before the stock tanks.
-Etc.

As we can see here though, with the Note 7, and it's easily being glazed over. Samsung now has some sort of "reality distortion field" just like Apple, where in some people's eyes, they can never do anything wrong.

And, here's an experiment for you or anyone else. Go on to an Android forum, any Android forum, and see if you see 50% of their users saying how great Apple is and how terrible Android is. Of course you won't see that and if anyone tried it they'd be suitably dealt with.

I've started using the ignore function for a lot of the obvious trolls/shills and it is now a much better experience. Added a few from this thread, in fact :D

People in general don't act without a motive. This is why detectives looks for motives and actors look for the motivation of their characters. At some point you have to ask why there are people here with hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands of universally negative posts and why nothing is done about it.

edit: to be clear I'm not suggesting this forum should be a hugbox where only universally positive things should be said. If you check my recent post history you'll see I was complaining pretty strongly about copy and paste in iOS. This complaint was actually based on fact.

If I go to the Android subreddit and post something positive about Apple, most of the time I get down voted like crazy, even if it's not a fanboy-ish comment. I say something like "Wow, the 6s is a quick phone, it even beat the Note 7 in this test!" and I get destroyed in the comments.

does anyone realize that the Note 7's battery is not replaceable? As in non-replaceable battery?

This will not be just a simple battery swap.

Yep, I bet Samsung is now wishing they'd gone back to a replaceable battery, to go with the other fan favorite features that they did put back.

As for the battery itself, it sounds like someone at that particular battery manufacturer is in trouble.

On the good side, 0.1% means only 1,000 replacements per million sold. Hopefully they know the exact serial numbers involved.

Apple had to replace a similar small set of iPhone 5 batteries, but luckily for Apple, those batteries only died early instead of flaming out.

But you could have asked for a better design in the first place. They don't really have a choice, do they!

It wasn't the design, but the part or parts that's in question. It could be the battery at fault or the connectors to the battery. Something is at fault here that didn't appear during the testing stage.

The glued in battery isn't part of the design? The connectors aren't part of the design? What?

Following reports of exploding batteries in its latest smartphone, Samsung is expected to announce an "unprecedented" recall of the Galaxy 7 Note less than a month after it first debuted.

According to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, an unnamed Samsung official says the company is conducting an investigation and is expected to announce the results this weekend or early next week. Samsung has indeed traced the explosions to the battery of the device and is in talks with Verizon and other U.S. business partners to figure out how to deal with the issue.

Samsung's solution may be to recall all Galaxy Note 7 devices that have been sold thus far, as the company has no plans to hide the result of its investigation. The Galaxy Note 7 went on sale on August 19 and shortly after, reports began circulating about devices that exploded or caught on fire while charging. Images and videos of damaged Galaxy Note 7 devices have been circulating around the internet and have already led Samsung to delay shipments of the device. No injuries have been reported thus far.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 features a 2,560×1,440 Super AMOLED dual curved display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core 64-bit 14nm processor, 4GB of RAM, 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear-facing camera, wireless charging, an iris scanner, IP68-rated waterproofing, and a 3,500 mAh battery.

[doublepost=1472760994][/doublepost]An exploding phone? But, but, but....it's the first time Samsung has actually produced something that wasn't a copy of Apple.

I give props to Samsung for not hiding it and getting the problem solved.
Well, you really don't want to be responsible for houses burning down or fires on airplanes. Getting in front of a major problem like this will likely save them hundreds of millions in wrongful death lawsuits.

Charging batteries always makes me nervous because this stuff happens. I try not to charge stuff unless I'm at least at home.

99.99999% of the time this won't happen. I've left my MacBook charging for like 5 days straight before, along with a number of phones and iPods that I've left for about a week with no issue. Of course there is a risk, but modern batteries and designs (minus the case of the Note 7 and a couple other products in the last decade) have about no risk of this happening.

Do you remember the uproar when Apple had a problem with iPhone 5 batteries? You'd think it was the end of the world. This is a perfect example of how two companies are treated differently over a similar issue. One gets crucified (Apple) and the other is commended for "doing the right thing" (Samsung). And the Samsung battery issue is far more serious as it could cause an actual fire.

So Samdung takes a dig at Apple with the "you know what it has? An audio jack!". Apple should totally say "We don't have an audio jack but you know what ours won't do? Explode!". It's only fair as Samdung always picks on Apple. Go iPhone 7!

Hold the Home Button or say "Hey Siri, call 911." Yes the touch screen issue sucks, but you can get around it in an emergency.

That's assuming you have a reliable data connection and even then Siri will usually get it wrong and respond with something like "Looking for 7-Eleven".

I just hope Jason Pierre Paul wasn't holding onto his Note 7 with his good hand. :(

I'm pretty sure Siri is not that bad. Siri is not as good as Google Now, but that's a stretch to say that Siri would mess that up. In fact, why don't you try that right now? (assuming you have an iPhone)
