While Apple users wait (keyword) for more free iCloud storage or some other deal, I have 2TB cloud storage and moved away from iCloud. Now if I can delete or replace the associated “@me/@iCloud” email I will be free from Apple’s rubbish cloud services that their can never figure to get it right compared to competitors. Anyone remember prior to iCloud and also the iTools mess. Apples makes some excellent hardware, I cannot say the same for cloud services.
Yep, but in most cases companies have an idea of how many customers they will lose/gain with each transition they make. They don't always get it right but I suspect that they do 'some maths' before hand.

I cannot believe it, after all these years I have finally found a users who actually uses all the power/performance an A11, A10, A9, A8 chip has to offer. Oh dear intel chips may as well give up the fight now. /s
Huh?

People keep bringing this up, but I am not so sure they are comparable.

For one, those Apple ads were a long time ago. And what was considered acceptable or in good taste back then might not be as suitable today.

It’s like how policemen wore shorts in the past as well. But doing so now would be a real fashion faux pas.

In short, those kind of ads worked back then given the unique environment and circumstances at the time. But times change, as do tastes and perceptions, and I don’t think that the same type of ad is going to fare as well under today’s climate.

Just my two cents.

Remember Microsofts ads with Jerry Seinfeld, horrible.

Okay, that's what I thought, but I wasn't entirely sure haha. I read through some of your prior posts and thought "we are on the same page yes?"

In this case Apple’s calculator.app is not functioning properly, remember that mess up, I cannot remember which iOS version it was. The clock/alarm issue too along with Maps.

Is iCloud 5GB free storage the new 16GB iPhone/iPad base storage cheapness.

Samsungs marketing/advertising team are aloof teens, hence the adolescent type ads. I didn’t care for the Justin Long Apple PC/Mac ads either, however both actors had this cliche about them and never came across as having a complex.
Ha! Aloof teens. True.

Apple was a pip squeak when those ads came out, with 5% market share, so it was an appropriate strategy. Plus they were genuinely funny, and the more charismatic of the two was actually John Hodgeman, the PC, so the ads weren’t mean spirited the way the Samsung ads are. Add to that the fact that the actual facts on the ground are badly distorted in the Samsung ads and it really doesn’t look good for them.

One of the most unseemly aspects of these new ads is that Samsung is a multi-billion dollar conglomerate with a huge chunk of market share who dominates many of the industries they are in. It’s just a horrible, pathetic look for such a massive, powerful company. They are playing small. Like chumps.

Anyone remember when android phones used to crush iPhone benchmarks? No one cared then lol it was all about performance and optimization. Now is
It's all the sites cling too. I suppose it adds to the herd mentality. All I know is in real world speed test the iPhone X loses to the S9 and Note 8.
Unlikely. All the real world tests I’ve seen show iPhones beating Galaxy phones like a rug. Better chips, better hardware optimization.

Yeah, no. That other person is right. Just saying that the purpose is to be negative against Apple doesn’t justify anything. The negativity of these ads are a terrible brand strategy. Epically bad. Flaming as they eventually roll to a stop in a ditch.

Certain people will never understand attack ads.

But there's a good reason why it's been used successfully for decades from DSL vs. cable to Huggies vs. Pampers.

Correction Apple had under 5% market share and hovering from 3-just shy of 5% from quarter-to-quarter. :)

Samsung makes some excellent hardware may it be phones, or otherwise. All their have to do on the Galaxy line is get rid of TouchWiz or tone it down further. Their ads really need to focus on how their devices integrate into everyday life vice having a complex to compare XYZ. If their copy anything from Apple, it should be the ads, no one would complain except MR members :p:D

I've used a stylus on a phone, actually wanted one for my iPhone too. There, those people exist. It's better that the option exists.

I’ve never seen somebody use one. I don’t mind it being an option, I just don’t consider it a sellable feature. The masses aren’t running out to buy phones because they have stylus support. Maybe I’m wrong, just my opinion though.

First video is trash.

Second video is funny.
Samsung is the top selling phone brand on the planet. Apple sells more high end phones, not because they’re necessarily better, but more because they’re a status symbol. The value proposition with Samsung is much better than with the iPhone. Tablets are a different story.

I understand attack ads. I think most people do. And they should only be used in very specific instances for very specific purposes. And usually it’s not to build a brand. Maybe it’s you who doesn’t understand...

The direct TV vs. Cable ads aren’t attacking another brand, they are showing the comparative disadvantages of the category. And they’re ******* hilarious. Genius.

The Pampers vs. Huggies ads I’ve seen have been comparison ads, not attack ads.

If you don’t recognize the difference between comparison ads or category plays vs. attack ads, you’re the one who doesn’t understand.

Typical Samsung.
They cant advertise their products alone and for what they are. No they always have to try to downplay other products to try to make theirs look better. Comes across as desperate to me.

Samsung has copied almost everything from Apple, including ads. Copiously.

Remember the Mac vs PC ads? Did Apple feel inferior next to Microsoft? Or was it clever marketing tactics used against a competitor? Hmmm.
They were inferior. Deeply and thoroughly. They had 3% market share at the time. It was an appropriate marketing tactic for the upstart David vs. Goliath. But for one Goliath (Samsung) to be carping at another (Apple) like a whiny baby brother is just unbecoming, and very counterproductive. They are making things much worse for themselves for years to come.

Are you kidding me? In the age of anything goes, fake media, fake reviews, corporate espionage and intellectual property theft, you think we have reached a state of higher consciousness that people now see those "old" Apple ads as offensive now? You can't be serious.

Ask yourself why companies place ads. In my opinion they do it to advertise their product, sell their product, and compare their product to other products. I can't imagine that somehow Apple comparing themselves to Windows, using a fat sickly guy to represent Apple, with a skinny smart geeky guy to represent Apple, is not taking shots at Windows. No different that Samsung mocking Apple. None.

If we could go back and rewatch all the Apple vs PC ads I bet you would see there is not much difference between the implied insults. Apple vs PC, or Samsung vs Apple. Same thing.

If you can't see the stumbling PC responses are similar to the Samsung vs Apple responses, not much more I can say.

They are kind of funny. Second one is better than the first. Not "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" funny, but they made me smile. The funniest thing about these ads are hearing people get mad at them like they are actually offended.

Pretty funny considering the Note 9 still can't outperform the year old iPhone X. And yes, nobody wants a stylus for a phone. Samsung should focus more on their failing sales than Apple.

Gotta give it to Samsung. They make great ads.

And I keep hearing this "better performance". Better performance? By how much? Does it take the Note 10 seconds where the iphone needs 2 seconds? The performance difference is practically not visible. No one lives off benchmarks. In the real world it's pretty clear the Note devices are far more of a productivity powerhouse. And let's not get into all the hardware benefits the Note offers against the iphone. In terms of looks, which are subjective, in my opinion Samsung devices look better than the iphones and the Note is no exception. I will take the Note anyday. ps - I do own an ipad :D

So now there are market share guidelines that companies have to follow in order to make their ads fair? The underdog gets a pass? What about all those small David sized companies that got swallowed up by Apple, Samsung and others? Should we feel sorry for them too? I feel the bigger issue is Apple fans don't like critiques or criticisms. I find the ads silly but funny. Nothing more, and I own all Apple products. Well I do have a Samsung monitor but thats all...

I agree, Samsung shouldn't have gone there. EXCEPT, most people have/use whatsapp and there is a very small chance that you would have a 32 person meeting, except if your company only uses iphones. This is Apple's greatest downfall with imessages and it's plateform. Yes you can use animojies, but so many people have dumped iOS, not have cross functionality kills it's use. Apple was whatsapp greatest ally!

I was just at a social event, and everyone was like, let's start a whatsapp group! second time this has happened. With the majority of the world (except USA and Japan) using whatsapp, Apple really shot them selves in the foot.

So while up to 32 functionality is cool, ability to use it in real world settings diminishes with the world wide proliferation of Whatsapp.
Most of my friends use iPhones. Often, everyone at a company will all have iPhones. FaceTime is easily the best video calling app. And it just got way better. This is going to make a lot of IT departments take notice when it comes time to buy next year. On demand video conference calls from anywhere in the world, totally secure, built into everyone’s phones and can be activated by Siri? That’s a killer new feature with real world benefits.

There’s a difference between intended outcome, and actual results.

I recently rewatched the old Apple commercials and I feel nothing.

I get that Samsung is probably trying to copy the Apple ads of old and maybe even elicit the same response and outcome, and my point is that it simply isn’t as effective today as it probably was in the past.

To use another analogy, teachers were allowed to use corporal punishment in the past, but we aren’t allowed to even touch them today. Does this make corporal punishment wrong? Not necessarily. It simply means that said punishment was still socially acceptable back then, but not so today due to evolving mindsets and attitudes and a desire to elevate the teaching profession.

Same thing here. The Apple ads worked back then. The same ads won’t work today. Which is why Apple doesn’t bother showing them today.

Context matters.

It’s funny the amount of similar responses I get on here. Samsung is the one bringing up performance as a negative against Apple. If you’re gonna bring up a feature in a negative ad, you should at least be right about it.

So the 12 million views on the "double dongle" ad are a terrible brand strategy?

I guess everyone hates it but continues sharing it. :D
