There seems to be a sad contingent of Apple fans that inevitably get their collective panties twisted whenever Samsung is mentioned as a supplier for Apple. This I don't understand. Apple doesn't seem to care enough not to use them. So why should we? In the end, it's business. It always has been. It always will be Apple will use whomever they have to use to continue generating profit... moralizing be damned.

I personally don't give a hoot about who's components are inside as long as the final product meets my expectations. If it's Samsung's components, so be it.

Yup.

Cant believe some of the tools here. Apple doesnt care if they use Samsung. Why should you?

Can someone make sense of why Apple would want their competitor to manufacture their displays when it's like an open invitation to corporate espionage?

I don't know where you been but apple has been using Samsung for various parts of thier products. This is far from the first time. In fact while we see all this apple vs Samsung ads and suing each other I'm willing to bet these companies respect each other very much. I bet they be on the phone talking about there next products while it's the regular people who fight the most.

LOL who is dumb enough to buy an iPad that big that's still running a joke of a mobile OS? Just buy a competent laptop.

Agreed. Samsung is a large company with their hands wet in many industries and products. There may be issues with their phones being rivals with the iPhones, but at the end of the day, Samsung benefits from the large sale orders of these screens, and Apple benefits with the quality & cost of them. Win win.

Yep. I mean, I don’t/won’t buy Samsung products “directly”, but if there winds up being Samsung components in a brand I do prefer, then so be it.

These large component suppliers are _everywhere_. If I suddenly said, “I refuse to buy anything with Panasonic components”, I couldn't buy a GE fridge or a Corvette because they’re using Panasonic caps in their electronics :D

IPad Pro

For all of you who don't understand the attractiveness of the iPad Pro, you need to realize that the new size will be perfect for those of us who use this tablet to primarily read magazines and newspapers.

Plenty of iPad Air sammy screens had the left hand yellowing. I also doubt that this rumour is read or influences any more than 0.001% of iPad purchasers.

actually, samsung screens are prone to yellow tinting.. lgs are prone to retention.. there is no great IPS technology:(

hm, it is too big, air is just appropriate for reading news.. in my opinion, of course

Its not rumors. Samsung has been supplying apple with different parts for all there products. Apple is a software company not a tech company like Samsung. Apple can't make its products without getting the parts from the tech companies.

All true, but in the light of the majority of the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus parts coming from other companies this rumour is good news for Samsung when it was looking like Apple were marginalising them as a part supplier. This rumour references supply of parts for new product lines not the existing line of iPads.

If you have read the comments here you can see some people would love a big ipad. As the tablet market has matured, I'm sure there is enough demand for 3 sizes of iPads. And there are plenty of great iOS apps that meet the needs of some people perfectly. For others, like you, a laptop is a better option. Don't see where one group is smarter than another. Dumb is thinking you know the market better than a company with a pretty good (not perfect) track record.

Samsung components and samsung phones are 2 different company offshoots, they don't seem to copy or tell the phone subsidiary about what Apple are doing.

Samsung phones were surprised that Apple released a 64bit phone despite Samsung components actually making the chip.

The beef was between Jobs and Samsung. He was a man to hold a grudge. Tim doesn't give a toss, he just wants great components and a reliable supply chain. Apple has no interest or plan to actively use non Samsung made parts. The only time that will happen is when other manufacturers can make better components in large quantities. That's not happening any time soon.

Samsung make good chips and good screens for Apple as they are being told what to make. Samsung phones division unfortunately spec poor chips and rubbish pentile screen to make a cheaper phone. What makes Samsung phones bad is the OS.

Current iPads probably bend 5x as easy as iPhones. Guess what? Doesn't matter, you don't put it in your pocket.

I don't understand why anyone would put a thin electronic device in their back pocket and sit on it. It's a no-brainer that it will eventually attain the same curve as your wallet. But then, I guess there are a lot of no-brainer people out there. God created front pockets, shirt pockets, and purses for a reason.

2016 news: $999 2015 iPad Pro rendered barely usable by iOS9 upgrade due to lazy developers, useless 3D and transparency effects and ridiculously high resolution.

really... I'm amazed at how smoothly my 2011 MacBook Air runs with Mavericks and I don't use my iPad 4 anymore since iOS8. iOS7 was already a big letdown but version 8 is a ******** joke. No way to keep 2 Safari tabs open without reloading. Apps crashing. Choppy animations. Crappy multitasking. Long app startup time. I am sadly remembering these first few months on iOS6, when it seemed to be the fastest piece of consumer electronics on the planet.

I won't bite into the iPad trap again! This device went from "just a big iPhone" to "future of computing" and now thanks to half-assed iOS software update, "glorified, dust-collecting photo frame"

Isn't the iPad air the 3rd generation of the iPads with retina? The iPad 3 was the first iPad with retina

Yeah but I'm thinking Air 2 will still be 'just' retina, but I'm guessing Air 3 will be Retina HD So the first gen of Retina HD iPads, so I will upgrade to Air 2 but then I'm done until at least Air 4 or 5, aka the 2nd or 3rd gen of Retina HD iPads.

If that makes sense haha!

No, it's just fanboys with the 'reality distortion field'. You know. The same ones that said 3.5'' is the perfect size, but they waited several hours to get the Plus?

Samsung must need a share price boost, hence these rumours.

One hand washes the other. Samsung is happy to be the budget less polished version of the iPhone. I wouldn't be shocked if Samsung starts supporting ApplePay. Kind of like how iTunes is supported on Windows devices. LMAO! :D

Exactly. The way some of those people write one would expect that they belong to a local, neighborhood gang. They have that kind of "them/us" mind. It is funny while at the same time pathetic.

My guess would be a modified iOS 8 to take advantage of the added screen real estate. Especially if it really comes packed with two gigs of ram.
like others here, I am having trouble wrapping my head around the larger size. The 9.8 size seems perfect and as large as I believe the larger part of the genera consumerl would consider. Maybe the bezel will be a thinner all around?
Maybe it will be a simplified arm tablet friendly version of OSX? Priming arm for the day it would be powerful enough for a Macbook?
Make no doubt about it, sooner or later OSX will run on arm, maybe sooner than later.

iPad Pro.. starting at only $999.

Don't miss all the new accessories! $200 for a keyboard dock, $100 for a a mouse, $50 for the stylus, etc.

All the convenience of a laptop, but you'll be dead-stuck with iOS apps.

Not unlike the stupid Win RT tablets, but pricier.

If this is true, Apple's a bit afraid because their iPads aren't as big of a runaway success as they believed (compared to the iPhone). Tablet sales are actually down right now, overall. Apple's trying to capture more of the market.

3.5" WAS the perfect size in 2007 when it was released. Fast forward 7 years...people's tastes and behavior have changed. Who would've thought such a thing could happen? SHOCKING!
