If they are not to loose the massive opportunity they have in the education market they need better support for a stylus, removable storage and much easier setup. The IT admins in schools in the UK are generaly so anti-apple already and Samsung are pushing very hard to get in there..

I think this is a massive turning point for tablets int eh home if Apple were to let this slip, currently they are no1 choice but i worry for how long, there doesn't seem to be much dedicated Apple education initiatives. I hope I'm wrong, am fed up with cheap crappy laptops in schools , no point replacing them with cheap tablets .

Apple is losing favour in the education market because its prices are too high for schools that are always strapped for cash (and not all parents can afford to buy a tablet for each of their kids), not to mention iPads aren't tough enough when put in the hands of kids that have to carry them around all day, which only shoots replacement/maintenance costs through the roof.

We have seen so many "an iPad per student" initiatives here when the iPad first came out, it was the thing in education, but it didn't last. And part of it is Apple's own fault.

This is why ultra-cheap Chromebooks are doing so well these days in schools, yes the quality is much lower than with Apple products, but replacing a Chromebook hurts a lot less than replacing an iPad or Macbook Air.

Why bother with 2 gigs of ram? iOS doesn't need it! How wasteful!

----------

Que up the last airbender jokes...

Eventually they will need to increase it. They have increased the RAM from 128mb to 256mb, to 512mb and now 1GB with their iOS devices. Its only a matter of time. If Apple wants to keep improving iOS by adding more features more RAM will be necessary.

iPad for Apple Pay? Lol.

Imagine holding a 12.9" in store.

Apple should announce iPad at the same time as iPhone, main difference is screen size / cellular chip, and not much differentiation between the 2.

True, but think of all the people holding up a gigantic iPad to take pictures. People will do it.

Sounds like it's a real thing then.

I wonder how the iPad pro will further differentiate itself. As it is, the iPad already doesn't really make full use of that larger display. Are we still going to see 3x3 folders on a 12.9" screen?

I think 9.7 is the perfect size for me.

When I was in school I remember wishing it was a little bigger for when I was taking notes on it, hoping it was a full paper size.

However I'm not in school anymore and 50% of the time I use it for magazine/books/reading, and holding it is perfect IMO

Not if you have an AppleWatch!

12.9" would be sweeeet! With the 2GB of RAM and with 64-bit processing, this tablet will rock with multi-tasking and split screens. I'd love it if Apple gave the ability for iOS to have more of a desktop feel at these sized screens so you can have several windows open and put the windows side by side.

Where's the iPad Pro Round Up

Where isn't there an iPad Pro round-up. The details are scrambled in with the iPad Air round up but this device is going to be as different from the iPad Air as the iPad mini was from the iPad.

I think somebody should keep this quote somewhere. It reeks of "640k is enough for anyone" to me. :D

It's not really that they were saying though, it was more "I've never had an issue with 1GB RAM", on the iPhones anyway. iPads had the Safari refresh issue.

What they were missing is the fact that it's iOS 7 that was fine on 1GB, but missed the point that iOS 8, 9 & 10 will progressively suffer for sure.

So whomever went on a tirade against Samsung with names like "Samesong" etc etc..... Take that!

Apple products are built with "Samesong" components!

In a way I agree with you. This whole bendability, 8.0.1, and other things going wrong makes me worried.

On the other hand, I've had my 6+ over a week and love the phone. I've never encountered any of the issues, even when rolling over my phone accidentally at night, the phone works and doesn't bend. The only thing is I wish they would fix some software bugs, that's the only thing that really lacking the 'Apple Quality'.

True. I've always loved the quality of Apple devices. But what I love more is that they have SUPPORT. To me that is what makes it better than man other devices. Usually the software bugs are ironed out. Can't tell you how many bugs I've had on some other devices that suddenly 'wasn't supported'' a year into the devices warranty

I think it'll work out. Tim Cooks is much more prone to fixing problems instead of sweeping them under the rug.

 Really? Was it 2007? Or was it 2012 when Apple released this ad:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=O99m7lebirE

And your comment has nothing to do with what I SAID. I'm referring to the hypocritical fanboys that kept crying that they didn't want bigger phones until September 9th of THIS year.

Even in 2012 there wasn't that much use for most people for a big phone. I was pointing out that people's tastes change. You can't get mad at them because their tastes change. Many people only realized they were using just data only in the last two years. People's time on the phone has taken a nose dive. So people decided to get phones that cater to their need to watch videos and text and read emails and read books and websites better. Many people don't actually know what they want until they see it. That's not news to anyone nor is it hypocritical. Many people didn't know they wanted a big iPhone until they saw one or used one.

Some people still would prefer a smaller phone. However, there are drawbacks like battery life, just an ok display etc... and that leads them to having a bigger screen that is more portable than an iPad because there are benefits to it. So far I use my iPad far less than previously where the phone just sat in my pocket while I used my iPad for most of my needs. A 5.5" screen fits in my pocket and I can look at websites and emails etc without having to have a bigger device. Sure it does't completely eradicate my need for an iPad but it does cut down my need for an iPad in many situations like a crowded train etc...

If this enormous iPad is just an ipad then it is a quite a stupid idea.

If it's attached to some sort of keyboard - like a fanless macbook air - that would be great idea.

And since this is taking about the iPad, saying "no need for 2gb of RAM" is a bit wrong. There is plenty of need for 2gb of RAM if Safari is to be used.

I'm not even saying that tastes shouldn't change. They do, otherwise we'd still have RAZRs. Hell, I didn't get a dell streak because it was so big (granted it's girthy).

I just hate when people become completely hypocritical about certain issues.

3.5" WAS the perfect size in 2007 when it was released. Fast forward 7 years...people's tastes and behavior have changed. Who would've thought such a thing could happen? SHOCKING!

Translation: "It was perfect until apple told us it wasn't."

Because it wasn't even 3 months ago that people on these forums were still making fun of the size of the note series and lauding that apple would never make such a ridiculous size.

Not before me pal!

If it has osx and a stylus I hate to tell both of you but I'm going to get it before you both. ;)

Tell me about it - that's one of the reasons I'll be updating my Air. Safari refresh sounds like a minor issue to those not affected but is a massive ballache in the real world when you're copying and pasting photos and bits of text from one page or app to another.

I agree. If it is just a bigger iPad Air then its rather pointless, but if it is a device that will eventually add to the capability (need not have it from the start) through unique software features then I am sure it will be something that will add to the market the iPad currently enjoys.
