The apps on my phone consume 4 GB. Add that to the 3GB for iOS, and that a total of 7 GB. I had the S7 Edge, and had basically the same apps. I was using close to 16 GB with that phone. 16 vs 7. That a huge issue with Android.

Not exactly a huge deal on a phone that comes standard with 64GB as minimum and where you can pop in up to 256GB of extra memory though, is it?

Apple got lucky with the exploding S7, I don't think Apple will be as lucky this time.
It is really great that everyone is thinking this.
But there is just a difference. Consumers really don' t care how good a galaxy looks. They want ios, and apple.
We saw this with the s7, that looked great but was outsold by the 6s alone.
I mean it is great, but it doesn' t have IOS or the AppStore .
Look at at the iphone 7, the same design for basically 3 years now. And it has broken sales records.
Samsung would actually really be in trouble if Apple brings a new design this fall and with better "paper specs" samsung will be in real trouble by then.

Android is all fun and perfect until you try to Group Message the homies. Then it turns into a bloodbath with MMS and this and that. Messaging is too severely flawed on Android and THAT is what keeps me on iOS. Tried way too many times with a S7E, a Nexus 6P, a One Plus 3, a ZTE MAx Pro, and a Pixel XL. Always come back to iOS man. But yes, Sammy is bringing the heat with this one...

Sure, if you want to pay another $200 for that card. And just wait, in 2 months there will be lots of reports on how laggy the S8 has become, just like all past Samsung phones. Now if you want a true Android experience, then get a Pixel. The Pixel 2 will blow the S8 out of the water.

also - i see samsung trying to ape apple's foray into health...

...getting a doctor on Skype. Really?

I can smell the failure already.
What doctor will give up their time to do this? This doctor will have no information on you, and the main advice given will be "you should go see a doctor". If they do give out real advice what happens if they give bad advice?

Good for lawyers perhaps?
My health insurance pushes it's Telemedicine program hard, they have full access to your health records, can write scripts and since they are, you know, Doctors, they give medical advice. I'm not sure why a company like Samsung wouldn't want to get into that if they could.

S Pay is pointless with Android Pay being there.

Samsung is 10x better than Android pay. The fact that is has MST AND NFC is enough to put it way ahead of the competition. You can use Samsung Pay pretty much anywhere whereas Android Pay is only NFC supported.

People should not hold their breath for Apple to release a worthy competitor. They'll have some b***s**t excuse for not going bezel-less, or not redesigning the phone. Maybe they'll release a new PREMIUM COLOUR. Maybe it'll be the exact same iPhone but available in ceramic!!!!! COURAGE!

No, they can't get away with that two years in a row. Plus: too many rumors of changes coming and brand new Job Theater to showcase the next phone. 10th anniversary too even if Apple typical doesn't do much to celebrate those. If we are aware of this so is everyone at Apple.

Nice looking phone, mostly all aesthetics, dont functionally improve experience. These are the downsides for me.

  • Fingerprint sensor in the back, horrible ergonomics, iris scanner security questionable. See post 152.
  • Why doesn't Samsung phone use a Samsung processor - Exynos - this is not confidence inspiring. Apple don't use the A10X in their MacBooks, yet they are desktop class?
  • No 3D touch like functionality - I love that feature on my iPhone. I thought it did have it personally, I may be wrong.
  • No dual cameras - Samsung was not able to develop software (software not Samsung's forte) for DOF processing
  • Paltry 4GB RAM. I thought we weren’t spec whores on the Apple forums?
  • What happened to the 'Edge' screen hype. It’s still there isn't it? I donl;t understand your point.
  • Samsung software comes with redundant functions that compete with native Android. So what, you can delete them can’t you?
  • Non standard aspect ratio of the display - developers nightmare. But the Apple offering has a 1080P screen right?

The apps on my phone consume 4 GB of space. Add that to the 3GB for iOS, and that a total of 7 GB. I had the S7 Edge, and had basically the same apps. I was using close to 16 GB with that phone. 16 vs 7. That a huge issue with Android.
I'm saying that the apps keep using more disk (ram) space in iOS over time. Check it in iOS what ram each app consumes. Check it again after a period of time. They keep using more space in time and simple apps can consume more than 1gb over time. That's a big failure in my opinion.

Yes it's secure and you don't need stickers it just works unless the store is purposely blocking it. It really is much better than android and apple pay especially in the USA where there aren't many nfc terminals.

Fair enough. Well here in the UK I see less of a need for it as most large, well known shops have NFC terminals or are getting them.

Lol, so that rhetoric implied here is that the future of phones is to carry around a bunch of dongles because you still want to use a pair of $500 studio quality wired headphones with your new 2017 phone?

So far all Apple has done is require every man, woman and child to carry a purse or backpack around full of wires and dongles because of their "courage". When I can't listen to music anymore because my batteries died after only a few hours, that is not progress.

Only when phones reach credit card thickness I might want to trade a headphone jack for something wireless then.

Can't your studio headphones have a 3.5mm jack (output) to lighting(input) to support your headphones? I have Bose QC35 granted there not "Studio quality" however they last me all day on rechargeable battery. Sorry Apple is right in removing the AUX port...its bloody old.

I want a phone that's functional and actually works well.
Not just a nice looking phone made to impress others.
And Android still doesn't impress me much.
You haven't used the latest Android version I guess. There isn't a big difference anymore. The only difference is that's Android is ahead these days.

Beautiful phone! The issue with Samsung phones is that they reduplicate all of Google's efforts. Now you will have two "assistants" on the phone to go with your two email clients, your two web browsers, your two calendars, etc.

You nailed it... This is why I left samsung for the iphone... Two App stores also... The carrier will also duplicate apps as well, music, video... My note was a total mess... Another issues is most all these apps are locked so you cannot remove them...

Or a fraction of that for a 32 or 64GB card. Even with more footprint for the OS (which out of the box does way more than iOS, being bundled for free with Word, Exel and so on...) you have way more free and usable space on a phone with 64GB as the minimum than one that has 32GB.

From the front
This!

In terms of visual design, I love how it looks from the front with those sexy curved edges, but I don't like the back of it. In terms of usability design, I think the the curved edges of the screen and fingerprint sensor being on the back have a lot of drawbacks in terms of usability.

Lol, only if you buy them from the Apple Store or directly from Apple. You can have fast big memory cards for around $ 40 these days.
