If Apple doesn't redesign the iPhone it's going to be a bloodbath. I'm sick of the home button and the huge bezels. I am thinking about pre-odering this beauty, but it seems like they've added a lot more software junk...
I really like a home button, wish they could do with smaller bezels though

No, you are wrong. Modern face recognition uses both IR and depth map. It is not simply just a photo like it was 10 years ago.

Depth map and IR? I double those cameras in the front are capable of either of those things you claim.

Some of us like the home button and bezels. I hope they stick around.

No thanks. While the phone is quite nice looking, that's about all it has going for it. Even if Apple would release another phone that looks like the current model, I would still take that over the S8.

Ok someone out there must know the answer to this; and, I have been wondering for a while.... What is the point of the wrap around display if you are holding it in your hand? Is it a design feature to create a sense of depth perception?

so now can we say Apple was lying to us about the headphone jack?

"we need to fit more stuff"

BS - look at this beautiful Samsung phone with a headphone jack and is water resistant .

Apple you lied!

Did they? Did I miss the part where this phone has 3D Touch and a taptic feedback engine?

I'll also take those Samsung water-resistant claims with a grain of salt until independently verified -- I don't think a single Samsung model has not had a significant percentage of failures during testing and real-world use.

How so? Samsung first Edge device was the Note Edge back in 2014. Then Samsung went full edge with the S6 in 2015. I don't hear any "developer" complaints with the S6 or S7. My only issue is that I love glass screen protectors and these edge displays suck for them.

My issue is that the rounded edges distorts pictures, video, applications or desktop but doesn't add much value in return (for me).

The picture of the S8 shown looks nice because the photo/wallpaper doesn't show the distortion.

it's funny, because at one time TV's screen were rounded. The big sell at one time was "flattened" screens so it doesn't distort the image. Now we are back to selling rounded screens as feature.

.

Of course there will always be people who like edges/bezels on their devices instead of the screen using the full width, but the majority will adjust to practically bezel-less phones in a very short time.

Did I say I like egged/bezels? Curved screen is different from having bezels/edges.....

Would believe it if your profile location was Cupertino.
Well now, that would just be silly. Would make more sense if my location was somewhere in China where they're made. All those little Chinese workers know what it's gonna look like, to some extent at least.

It's nice that they're using 3D Touch for the home button, but hate the idea of the fingerprint sensor on the back. Hoping Apple makes the entire screen with the scanner embedded under rather than make it fragmented and moving it to the back. Having to pick up my phone to scan my face would be annoying especially when I want it just set on the table while I'm eating for example.

I seriously think Apple should not release iPhone 7s rumored this year. Also, iPhone 8 should be priced comparable to this phone, not like $1000.
You have to think like Cook to know how it will be priced. I think this Galaxy phone will do damage to the selling of the iPhone 7 and 7 plus. To compensate those lost incomes, Cook will up the price by a few hundred of dollars

Apple you lied!

They needed the space for the Haptic Engine thing

Had Apple introduced this phone, at this price point, with that randomly positioned fingerprint scanner and absurd screen form factor, the same people who are praising it would be out with pitchforks asking for Tim Cook's head and Chtulhu doom on Cupertino.

Beautiful phone! The issue with Samsung phones is that they reduplicate all of Google's efforts. Now you will have two "assistants" on the phone to go with your two email clients, your two web browsers, your two calendars, etc.

Can you not delete (or at least hide) the apps you don't want to use?

My issues with the S8/S8 plus

1. Location of the fingerprint reader because it looks out of place. And I'm not sure if it's protected with glass because previous readers scratched way to much.
2. Lacks dual speakers. I love that on my 7 Plus.
3. Don't count on timely updates.

That being said here is what I like.

1. Took the S6 design and made it even better. This is not an S model.
2. Curve display gives you a larger display with smaller footprint. The base model has a bigger display than the iPhone 7 Plus and is much smaller.
3. 64GB with SD card is the only option. No confusing sizes to select from and it's the right balance of size and expandability.
4. Face, eye and finger recognition. More bio-metric options to choose from.
5. USB C
6. Headphone jack

But it's clearly now up to Apple. Very simple actually; if they release a 7S I'm going back to Android with the Note 8.
