But why you are always wasting your precious time to comment something you are not interested in or even hate on its fan site? To me it doesn't make any sense. I'm here because I love Apple and Apple product and I'm also a AAPL investor. If I hate something like Samsung, I will never go to its fan site samsungrumors.com ( oh well no such site).

Because I like OS X and use it daily. Read my sig.

.....and it's just a matter of time before a checked tablet or other lithium cell device brings down an airliner, if people don't pay attention to the rules.

That's what he should've emphasized.

So he should have emphasized something that has not been widely reported or has yet been reported to cause a problem over one that has occurred with the Galaxy? While I have no doubt that battery fires could occur with any device and pose a danger, we know that such fires have occurred with the Note 7 at a rate some would say is disturbing. I am down with it. I don't care whether it inconveniences some dude who is foolish enough to keep his incendiary device.. I mean smartphone.

No, the behaviour most definitely is petulant; 'Haha, they're failing.'
Do you not see the irony in your stance? Or, more accurately- do you understand why so many people see irony in your stance? Heck, your signature champions a quote from someone who says that Apple doesn't make a good computer, and you're implying that you take the high road on these forums? You can play the whole "I use OS X" card all you want, but your extensive posting history speaks louder than your comments in this thread. All you do around here is post comments that bash Apple, and now it's suddenly a problem when people are bashing Samsung.

That's just not how this works... if you don't like the heat, don't play with fire.

A quick look at your posts and sig would reveal that you sold or attempted to sell the MacBook you've left in the sig, pirated OS X and can't learn how cut and paste works. While everything else is whining about all things Apple.
Not to mention a wildly disproportionate computer. A 4790K, 32GB, and...a 960? Really? What is this, a third world country?

Did you really just say in cabin fires are no threat at all?

No sir. I said they're not a HUGE threat at all. Did you perhaps read too fast?

The fact is, there have been quite a few smartphone / game / camera / laptop / tablet small battery fires on airliners in flight (not just at the airport gate like with that Note 7). Fires from many types of devices, including phones, tablets, and crew handhelds.

None that I know of, ended up as more serious than a huge inconvenience, because of having to divert as a precaution and/or having some damage and residual smoke smell (such as in the case of an iPhone 6 fire which occurred 90 minutes out from Hawaii, where no early diversion was possible - the young college owner freaked out and she kicked the high flaming unit under someone else's seat, making it even more difficult for the crew!).

So for once, it'd be nice if a government agency actually treated its citizens like adults and gave out info without the drama. Of course, this is the FAA, which... unlike the NTSB... is half in bed with the airlines.

Again, the ban is fine. However, a more honest and useful announcement:

"From experience with previous events, and with current crew training and equipment, you're not going to be in much danger from a small device battery fire inside a modern cabin. That's why we haven't banned them in general. So don't panic if your device starts to smolder. If possible, move the unit into the aisle and alert the crew so they can extinguish it safely."

"The real reason we're announcing this particular ban is not because it's more dangerous than other such fires (laptop batteries are much bigger, for example), it is because the odds of it happening are higher. Thus the airlines are rightfully worried that there's a higher likelihood they'll have to spend more money on diversions and cabin cleanup. Plus the DOT made us do it."

"At the same time, let's be clear that a fire inside the cargo hold, where crew cannot get to it, can be extremely dangerous. So please, please, do not put any lithium batteries (or devices containing them) inside your checked luggage. If you have one inside your carry on bag, and they tell you at the gate that it has to go in the hold, warn the gate agent about the battery and tell them you must remove it first."

"Thank you and safe flying."

The iPad is certified by the FAA. Can't imagine why an iPhone wouldn't be okay to fly.

I piloted small aircraft using tablet laptop and PDA with a GPS puck back in the late 1990s. Those were some of the original EFBs that paved the way :)

Each device used for an EFB has to be certified on its own, and in the case of airline mounted ones that replace manuals, also in each aircraft model. It takes about six months. No iPhone has been certified for such use, AFAIK.

Samsung should remove the back cover and battery and replace it with a rechargeable game controller dock that the still good part of the phone can go in. They can sell it as a gaming device for $100 and reduce the amount they end up losing. The phone is still good, only the battery blows up. As long as the battery they go with doesn't blow up this time it would be a pretty cool device to have.

Yeah, because the Mac Pro that sells for like 4 grand with a GPU from 2012 is SUCH A GOOD DEAL! Anyway, the 960 is used for some gaming, which I don't do a whole lot and when I do it doesn't require more than what I got.

But NICE try on downplaying the hardware when it still craps all over everything Apple, LMAO.

Im guessing the 32gb RAM alongside the Iron Age CPU is because there's a bit of difficulty understanding how unix allocates RAM and panic sets in.

Oh here we go! Technical talk from an Apple fanboy, hahaha... yeah, because getting more RAM is baaaaaad! BAAAAD! Why else would Apple make the Mac Pro handle so much RAM... because..... you know, difficulty in understanding how UNIX allocates RAM and stuff... right? Right?

Because the criticisms I point out are VALID! Seems like you cant handle criticism of your favourite corporate brand.

An unavoidable action to be taken. Apparently it's too risky to allow these phones in flight.
Hopefully other phones don't get banned too if the focus is shifted towards specific batteries instead of only a specific phone.
This will be news until something bigger happens, then people will quickly forget about it and move on to the next big thing, as usual.

At least it has a headphone jack.

I don't want to take any smug satisfaction over something like this. I have a feeling when Apple ships the iCar in a few years they are going to get hit with some bad auto-driver issues until *looks how long it took iPhoto to get good* … year 5.

Nothing says joy like another's misfortune.

You'll live. Just have courage...

Morning Phil.
Courageous light years.

When Apple gets around to doing "profound" AR and VR in a decade or two it will be practically magic.
Stay tuned.
Courage.

That's why Apple wants to be there.
Smart move on their part.
Apple sells a lifestyle.
It's practically magic.
Stay tuned.

... and stay tuned

My thought, half way through a business trip, what do you do. The phone is an essential part of your business. Glad I do not need to make that call. Wish all of the folks with these challenges all the best.

Although I'm an Apple user, Im kinda disappointed that this blog only posts about negative things about Apple competitors. Samsung has announced last night that they'd compensate G Note 7 buyers with $25 credit for other manufacturer's phones or up to $100 for another Samsung phone.
Not that that would relieve the horror this incident may have caused, i really hope Macrumors would give us "balanced" info.
Yes I know this is a Apple-Biased site, but that doesn't mean the journalists should give myopic views to its readers.

Umm what do you mean? the don't post only negative things... Macrumors just posted yesterday that Samsung was giving phones away for $100, and they do post some good things about Samsung. But Tbh Samsung sucks Lol

what about body scanners then?
Today nothing is considered illegal if done for safety and security reasons, especially in places like airports..

Welcome to 2016

How is a TSA agent going to stop this?

You can't ask people to look at their phone based on the phones color or the way it looks. That would be profiling and it is ILLEGAL![/QU
