Not really. Basically the same look and feel. At least with Android you get choice and can always expect something different from any of the many phone manufacturer's. I would probably bought a Iphone a few years ago but the size was too small for me at that time. Now for sure I wouldnt get one because too many have them and they all look the same. scary.

Not really what though? Those three phones are the top selling phones. Why are people choosing them

It is a matter of ethics and code of conduct. Samsung was contracted to build and supply components for the iPhone. Their first iteration had the same form factor icons and user interface. I am all for competition, if based on their own merits. However, they were paid to deliver a product, but photocopied the product.

If Apple had contracted Samsung to actually build iPhones, you'd have some kind of point. However, they didn't.

Samsung is huge. The fact that Apple bought chips and screens from one of its divisions, has absolutely nothing to do with how another division designed a phone.

It's like claiming that Bridgestone or Goodyear cannot build a race car, because some customer has bought their tires for their own race car.

Get real though. Who needs a netbook in their pocket? Seriously 1.4Ghz quad? thats better then most netbooks. And yet a lot of android apps won't work on it. Tap Tap worked on none of my android devices (3 different tablets Vizio, Archos, and Acer). And some apps ran horribly slow on the Archos 101 G9 (returned after 2 defective). Now with the iPad and iPhone every app runs smoothly. You don't need high performance to run these games and apps. Its like saying you need a gaming computer to play AOE 3. It's pathetic how they advertise these things. An iPhone 4 and 4s and iPad 2-3 will run everything smoothly that is built for the device. Where as android apps need more picture sizes for screens and compatibility for all the different processors used.

If you love android so much then go out and get one but you won't be happy when you can't play a $10 or amazing game or your amazing phone or you can't play your movie collection and you are forced to find 60 different video apps to find out only 3 work and 1 is laggy. Have fun I'll stick to my iPad 3 and iPhone 4s.

Ever think of buying a quality android tablet or phone. Seriously, archos/vizio?

The feature to keep videos playing while doing other things on the device is a welcome one and one that Apple would be smart to implement.

I know you can double tap the home button and swipe over to keep the audio from a video playing in the background on iOS, but the process is clunky. I wish iOS devices were more desktop-like in this regard.

WOW that thing is huge! I think it will be great for people who want a tablet, that makes phone calls! Why didn't they just bump it up to 7 inches from the near 5 it is now and make it compete with the kindle fire tablet.

It looks like the trend that used to be , smaller, faster, lighter is now....., bigger, brighter and mini-tablet! While I am sure it will eventually cycle back to phones that are small enough to be functional phones and not approaching the size of an envelope, it amazes me that they are making such HUGE phones!

The up side for a phone that large is hopefully the letter "keys" will be big enough for the growing segment of the population that has a harder time reading and seeing, the smaller letters with an iPhone . Also people with VERY large hands and fingers may find it much easier to use.

ios looks dated

ios just looks dated now. these new phones w/ bigger screens has my attention. i'm looking at this objectively.. the customization of the home screen vs the boring icons of ios makes things more interesting. these widgets like newsfeeds, and the ported flipboard app brings a lot of information upfront w/o launching an app. very nice. apple, take note. ur ios is getting dated.

It's interesting that Samsung has implemented so many proprietary additions to Android. They're really making it their own flavor by adding features to compete with Apple. Makes me wonder how easily a phone like this will be updated to later versions of Android because of all the custom tweaks?

Not easily at all. Expect tons of launch bugs including random data loss (has happened with every 4g phone to date) which won't be fixed for months.

Saw this on The Verge. :D

This phone is getting trashed on Engadget and The Verge. I think Sammy overplayed their hand here. Too much hype. Will be interesting to see how loyal Samsung customers are or if people jump ship to HTC. Just goes to show how important design is. Put out a phone that looks like plastic crap and people will buy something else that looks better.

HEY GUYS! LETS OVER EXAGGERATE! WOOOOOO! I HAVE TO STRETCH MY FINGERS OUT, LIKE, MAYBE HALF AN INCH! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? I HAVE SMALL HANDS, SAMSUNG! I CAN'T DO THAT!

Comeon, people. It's not that much bigger. From the looks of it, I'd say it's roughly equal in size to the old HTC Evo, which could easily fit in your pocket. To me, it's the difference between small and comfortable, and slightly larger and comfortable.

for reals. it's not that big. maybe there's a lot of people with small hands.

Who Cares?

This is not an Apple product. Who cares? Don't waste our time with product comparisons. We want MacRumors Not Samsung info.

Surprising, Android users swear by the verge...wonder what they'll say now lol

Edit: nevermind it is the users who are taking it:D

I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung does an Amazon. Especially now that Google has Motorola. Not impressed by TouchWiz though. And they're still knocking off iOS on the UI side. Using a little red bubble for phone/text/email notifications. And the Siri wannabe interface looks almost identical to iOS. Shame really.

HTC to the rescue. Amazingly many are complaining the screen size is too big. :D

Since I'm on Sprint it's between the HTC EVO 4G LTE and this. Either way I'm still for Android.

An awesome phone indeed. I can't wait to get my hands on one. iOS 5 and the iPhone are getting kinda long in the tooth. Not to mention it missing 4G.

Am I the only one not butt hurt with the whole Samsung copying Apple thing? Obviously these companies are duking it out in the court of law, but I feel like Samsung took these measures to imitate in the first place because it has a degree of latitude being a foreign company.

Anywho, other countries have been copying US designs, media, colloquialisms and everything under the sun since the US has been around. Why we gonna start caring now?

If anything it ads a breath of fresh air and confidence for our uncertain financial future with all the talk of China overtaking us economically and Russian military might etc.

Nice to know we still have something going for us. :apple:

I don't like Samsung phone if I were to get an android I like the Sony xpira but back to the topic it's time apple updates there gear don't get me wrong I like apple but after 4 years of use the UI is kinda aging and screen size is looking so Mickey mouse I don't want it to go supernova like the samsung or HTC but a 0.5 inch increase from 3.5 to 4 inch screen could not hurt our pockets or our app and gaming experience.

For all those that don't want an increase in the screen apple should hear their cries and retain the current 3.5 screen and sell it at a cheaper cost and make a what I like to call a iPhone pro model with a larger screen estate and faster preformance to take advantage of the extra length in the base.
