Is there anything Android doesn't steal...? On the flip side, it always keeps the flame to Apple to force them to keep innovating! :D

Haha i can't believe there are some Android users out there saying how awesome s voice is. Man what a sad ripoff...Samsung isn't even trying to hide what they're doing!

This phone is not fully tested and functional. I know for a fact that the "Siri" like feature pronounces the word "to" like "tuh" as in, "Where do you want to go tuh?" There are some not well thought out problems with the tectiles feature as well.

Everything is a rush and they aren't paying attention to detail; only to the technology at hand.

Edited: Maybe I should have posted that I have held and toyed with the prototypes. I'm not sure why I got negative votes for telling the truth from actual experience, not because I read something.

Comscore based that not on sales figures, but on a survey of 13,000 people. It sounds a little strange to me, since for the big three networks in the US, the iPhone got a 63% share of smartphones by actual sales in this quarter, the kind where the carriers report hard numbers with legal consequences if they lie. Unless the small regional carriers are handing out Android phones with boxes of cracker jacks, this is highly unlikely to be true.

Where do Android phones sell better than iPhones? On networks that still don't have the iPhone.

Saw this on The Verge. :D

This phone is getting trashed on Engadget and The Verge. I think Sammy overplayed their hand here. Too much hype. Will be interesting to see how loyal Samsung customers are or if people jump ship to HTC. Just goes to show how important design is. Put out a phone that looks like plastic crap and people will buy something else that looks better.

where does engadget "trash" this phone? Both video reviews I watched on their review seemed positive for the most part. the conclusion they said it didnt have a wow factor but thats not trashing it.

It is a matter of ethics and code of conduct. Samsung was contracted to build and supply components for the iPhone. Their first iteration had the same form factor icons and user interface. I am all for competition, if based on their own merits. However, they were paid to deliver a product, but photocopied the product.

I know the UI was Android and not a product of Samsung, but it should have raised a flag somewhere in their organization.

Let's cut through the bs here guys, and I mean it in all good will, cause this is bs I 've been repeating to myself as well when I was very much into apple's distortion field. There are not many ways you can play around with a touch screen phone interface. The paradigm of shrinking a desktop os with a stylus was gonna go away anyway since capacitative screens had different characteristics. Ever since graphic ui's began applications and software has been associated by an icon.

Apple just went and stuck a all those application icons on a grid, and some most used ones on a dock like interface at the bottom. It's the simplest way, the most rudimentary way to do it. Even old nokia phones I used to have without the touch screen had a bunch of icons for functions/applications you would navigate around with keys, and some place to stick the most used ones. Apple didn't re-invent the wheel, one could say by looking at older phones (i ll post a picture further down), apple didn't reinvent ****.

So samsung goes and sticks icons for applications too (what should they have done, not put icons for applications, just put words?) and people can press on them instead of navigating with keys...so what? What's the big rip off that apple is crying about? What's the big intellectual property that they had stolen? Sticking icons on a screen in a grid? If apple had come up with some live tile system like ms (not that I am a big fan of it or something) that you 'd say yeah this clearly is paradigm shift I d say ok, but icons for apps are desktop staples, icons on phones for apps/functions were also a mobile phone staple pre apple.

Here's a nokia phone I had in 2006 :),

Nokia-6131-6.jpg

Ooops, it has icons in a grid, a status bar on top, just no touch screen. Sometimes I think that apple's lawyering up in this case against samsung here is not so much so they have to protect their "intellectual" property, but for their marketing to sell the story as if they had some immensely great idea that others are copying.

Just look at the nokia phone on top, take a step out of the reality distortion field, look at the applications icons in a grid, the status bar on top, and tell me how's the iphone's interface different to it? That you could touch an icon, press it and move it? But that's just a natural way of doing things if you can touch them, surely when touchscreens hit the market those icons would be able to be moved around.

Sorry to belabour a point, please look at the 2006 nokia phone, icons in grid, status bar and ask yourself isn't it not like iphone? Instead of the apple cultists telling you that apple reinvented the smart phone interface by not taking ms's poor shrunken desktop os with stylus look, that one could simply say that apple just implemented a very basic common phone ui with icons in a grid, status bar on a touch screen and added a place to put the most used icons on the bottom? :)

(Apple has had a crap notification system and they tried to get the the guys from palm to fix it for them, and they couldn't they went ahead and blatantly copied android slide down notifications, btw, as an aside, apple are not beyond copying not anymore than anyone else is, they just act as if their ideas are somehow super genius ones that everyone is out to copy and replicate, and when they can find a good idea they are quick to rip it off. Take safari as a case in point: apple has copied tabs for safari from opera, they have copied speed dial from opera, they will soon integrate search and address bar and copy it from chrome, they have copied process separation from chrome in safari, they have ripped reader from readability, they have copied reading list from read it later, they have copied extensions from firefox...wait a second? Have they even brought anything to the table that's theirs in the safari interface? )

edit: I just posted my post, and someone downrated it in seconds? Did you (you know who you are) even have time to read it? Don't abuse the rating system boys, it's not a knee jerk thing, you might as well reply instead if you got something to say, and read first, unless I am in a speed reading forum, no one could have read it, when upon clicking post I refreshed the screen.

ios just looks dated now. these new phones w/ bigger screens has my attention. i'm looking at this objectively.. the customization of the home screen vs the boring icons of ios makes things more interesting. these widgets like newsfeeds, and the ported flipboard app brings a lot of information upfront w/o launching an app. very nice. apple, take note. ur ios is getting dated.

Look, bright shiny... Bird!

oooooh ok ... my bad I misread that then :(

I bet if this phone was named Iphone5 everyone would be drooling over it ...

.... yaaaaa I said it  :p:p

But was not Apple the original copier? id not they copy phone call, SMS, MMS (eventually), phone camera, GPS etc.? The simple fact is that iPhone 4S and Galaxy SIII have very little in common (except for Samsung manufactured parts).

Look at smartphones right before and right after the iPhone. They didn't copy design aspects (for the most part), but they copied a lot of ideas.

Nah this thing is fugly. Even Android users think so (well Android users except the ones here who feel the need to defend Android to the death).

S voice...lol...can't get over that...how sad.

I thing I cant find is ... does the camera have zoom?

Lol yes s voice is amazing! And Samsung isn't copying apple, Android has had voice actions forever! The fact that Apple introduced siri has nothing to do with s voice haha. Man, that thing has me cracking up....

Are you the guy that downrated my post without replying to it, lol? :) I call bs. :) Tell me what they copied one by one, I 've given a seven point list (and a pretty much indisputable one) of what safari has ripped off of others... what exactly did others copy off apple in smart phones? I challenge you, since apple is the one here claiming that they 've been ripped off, and doing so repeatedly, to the point of actually making people believe they are such a huge innovator and others are simply the copycats, to come up with a list that is larger than what apple has copied themselves in safari.

At some point we have to talk with facts, not just generalities repeated to the point of boredom, and coming out as memes out of the propaganda/marketing dept of apple so they can constantly claim they are originators of ideas and others mere copycats and overprice their products because of this.

I also challenge you to come up with something from the safari interface that apple has NOT copied from others.

edit: the challenge is open to any of you boys here, not just faro6.
edit2: to the compulsive downraters here, for both my posts, just measure yourself up here against what I am saying, and put forth your arguments. I am sure you don't like what my posts say, we are in a apple forum, you 've paid rip off prices for your devices, you are attached to them some of you, you might think if apple isn't the next best thing to sliced bread, if they are not the innovators they've been branding themselves for me to think they are, someone might have ripped me of here as others are selling more cheaply so I better down rate this guy...but downrating me isn't going to get you your money back, nor is it going prove a point other than you don't like what I say, but you can't refute what I am saying here with evidence and arguments. The more downrates I get without replies, the more convinced others reading here who are not so into apple will be that you really don't have any convincing case to make here.

In the comments section. And mostly because people don't like the plastic design and TouchWiz UI.

i hate the fact that all these phone manufacturers keep increasing the screen size. The biggest screen I would use is a 4.3" anything larger is beyond ridiculous for a phone. So this phone is only .2" inch difference from a Galaxy Note? The Note is too damn big so I imagine this phone will look just as silly when used as a phone next to your ear. I would be embarrass talking on this thing in public lol.

And I am not saying this just because I'm an iPhone user, I would love to get my hands on an HTC One X. Now that phone is bad ass.

I like the gnex size. The note is a joke, why in the world they'd make a five inch phone is beyond me. And yes the htc one x looks good.

You dont get it?? Google create and releases Android OS to the public and thats it. Google doesnt dictate which phone or devices gets the updates. Android is a open-source OS like Linux and people or companies can do what they please with it. Thats what so awsome about Android compared to other OS's . Maybe you should appreciate your choices that is available to you. IOS devices are nice but some people prefer Android or other types of mobile OS's

Linux is a kernel, not an OS.
Android is an OS that runs on a Linux kernel.

Just sayin'.

Definitely will be picking up this phone along with it's Windows 8 version as well. Totally innovative features not available anywhere else. Glad you kept true to Android with the removable battery and SD card. HUGE WIN! HTC fails on this. Big Congrats Sammy! You got another winner on your hands. The phone looks amazing!!!

Irony: iPhone users with cracked screens complaining about the "cheap" plastic build of the SGS1,2,3.

Irony: iPhone users shouting their mantra, it's not about the hardware, it's about the software and user experience. Then calling other phones ugly without even trying them out to test the User Experience.

From Android Central:
Just like the Galaxy S II before it, Samsung’s new baby simply refused to show any signs of lag or slowdown during our hands-on session. The phone handled jumping between apps and scrolling around pages with effortless fluidity. If we had to call it, we’d say it’s more responsive than any competing high-end Android phone.

Bottom Line: Sammy will continue to dominate.

Waiting for Apple to copy Samsung by going bigger and on the iPhone and a smaller version of the iPad.
LOL!

this phone is going to be a success (by Android standards that means forgotten in two months)

Samsung has raised the bar high with this excellent model. The benefit for those of us who prefer an iPhone, is the competitive pressure put on Apple.

It will be interesting to see how long it will take Apple to respond. With two of the big three competitors announced, Apple has the advantage of knowing exactly what they're up against. The HTC One X, and Galaxy S III are close competitors, only Apple is the unknown at this point.

We will see if they trot out words, and use persuasion to convince a warmed over iPhone will suffice, saying it's all about the experience. Or if we will get a fresh, new, redesigned model.

The ball is firmly within Apples grasp. How they respond will be quite interesting, it's just a matter of time. :)
