When I saw in the London press that Samsung had launched a new phone I thought I would come here and get some laughs from the Apple Fanboys. The reaction is predictable but really quite silly. Samsung has a large user base and has some nice phones and they keep churning in the profits.

I use an iphone 4S and must say I would prefer a different form factor from Apple with the next phone. It always amuses me when I see complains about the cheap plastic used by Samsung, when most of us wrap our Iphones in cheap plastic covers to protect its fragile construction.

This looks a great phone and with some nice features, also if you use the internet a lot like I do the screen size is perfect. The dropbox app is really handy as are some of the other features. Mmmm this could be a temptation to much and may see the end of my Apple love affair.. Lets hope the phone does all it says unlike the 4s which lets be honest is a pretty tenuous half way house which feels it was rushed as there are so many issues with it. I have had 4 replacements so far for the same audio issue. One good thing about buying from the Apple store though, you can always take it back direct from the store you purchased and get a replacement, but I cant see any Samsung stores on the high street just yet.

Totally agree. How beautiful of my iphone 4S is, and wonder why so many people use a cheap plastic cover to protect their iphone. I never use any both protective screen film and back plastic cover so I can truly enjoy its beauty every moment when I am using it.

I thought so but I chose the safe way. When I accidentally dropped it on concrete and broke the corner of the plastic case. I know I did the right thing. The glass would have shattered if I hit it right at the corner.

Let's see...

iPhone 4S compared to Galaxy SIII:

half RAM
half CPU cores
half CPU clock speed
0% relevant if the end user experience of speed is the same/better. I can't find any way to fault the responsiveness of iPhone4S. Faster/more cores = more battery consumption, no point in adding them just because you can

half storage memory
Untrue. S3 is available in 16, 32 or 64gb - the same as iPhone 4S

True. Still a gimmick at this stage though.

much smaller screen resolution
The S3 needs a bigger screen resolution because of that massive screen. Personal preference if you like that size or not, I don't.

No LTE networks in most places, either.

Yea, you've got half Galaxy SIII
Would be interested to see a review of the true experience of using this phone, but comparing it on specs is a bit like you claiming that a Hyundai sportscar is better than a Ferrari because it has a bigger engine and faster top speed.

Your argument was: It has a different background for the bubbles, hence it's a complete different thing. No?

The frequently imitated but never equalled brushed metal.

Are you saying Apple came up with the Brushed Metal UI for computers ? Because I can have you eat those words in less than 3 seconds if you are.

I have been using iphone for more than 3 years and never drop it on the floor. The point is how careful and what way you use it. If you are careful enough just like me, there is no need to use any external cover.

elephantitis

4.8 inch screen. woopie. fantastic engineering when you can inflate the overall size of the device just to win a spec war. knock knock Samsung... elephantitis is still unattractive.

Whether you like or dislike the Samsung, like or dislike Android, are an Apple fanboy or not, 610 replies to this story on an Apple forum shows that Samsung and Android are becoming a very serious threat (if it wasn't, this story wouldn't be on the front page and it simply wouldn't be a discussion point).

Apple revolutionised the smartphone, but other manufacturers are catching-up fast. Competition is great, but Apple need to keep competing rather than standing still.

Many people seem to feel the 4S wasn't much of an upgrade, and a lot of people I know (personally and from reading this forum) don't even use the 4S's features such as Siri and video editing.

This year Apple need to seriously step-up and create a whole new iPhone to take them far, far ahead of the competition, otherwise I fear we may start to see Apple's domination begin to falter.

Most of us? I'm guessing the people complaining actually appreciate the design and don't cover it up.

Maybe

Damn. Looks like my next phone will be iPhone 5. I was so ready to commit to Android with a Galaxy SIII too. Sorry Samsung but you've lost me as a customer.

Great point.

I would have bought that, just took too long to announce/release, so just got a 4s and very happy with it, fits perfectly in my pocket plus android still lags, anyway both are good phones/OS.

The point is...you cannot use the plastic body on the samsung as a downer when you cover you iphone in plastic.

Has nothing to do with protection.

I agree!

I will leave behind the iphone if I am presented with a phone I like better.

Apple has few choices that make sense to do at this point:

1. Bigger screen
2. More storage
3. LTE

NOTHING else really makes enough of a difference to cause me to run out and buy one.

good thing i bought the HTC One X for my secondary phone and not waited for samsung. it's just meh. can't wait for iPhone 5.

Why are people buying SAMSUNG?

Why are so many people buying Samsung phones ... I mean it's designed in Korea ... how uncool is that compared to being designed in California ... I know they are both produced in China (or Samsung maybe in Korea), but still just that fact would make me choose Apple anytime!!!

Right, computer manufacturers have NEVER gone outside of their domain/industry for ideas.

besides.. can ya really count Apple as a COMPUTER company? I mean seriously.. I've been patiently waiting for a MAC COMPUTER REDESIGN/REFRESH for a while now!

Name another Computer manufacturer that had its OWN retail store before Apple.

I just truly like the simple apple designs better. It's been that way for me since 2007. Again I'm going on purely hardware, I know for the next generation iPhone I'm going to enjoy the style, imo it's the OS that's going to have the biggest effect
