Right, computer manufacturers have NEVER gone outside of their domain/industry for ideas.

besides.. can ya really count Apple as a COMPUTER company? I mean seriously.. I've been patiently waiting for a MAC COMPUTER REDESIGN/REFRESH for a while now!

Predominately, yes. My point still stands though.

Wow.. That's huge.

As for me, I think it's too large. The iPhone shouldn't get any bigger either, or they should make the screen bigger and the bezzel smaller.

I would buy an iPhone 4S+ or something (I now have a 4S) if it would have a new battery which would last as long as the good old Nokia 6110. THAT would be a selling point. Apple suppose to be researching new batteries, and that's where the new big lapse in mobile phone's is. Not contrast/resolution/etc. I never have a Samsung or Iphone side-by-side with me, so I never see the diference. I only have one phone. So I don't know, and I don't care. I do care about battery life.

You do know that most people actually prefer Android phones, right? Perhaps they find those Android phones besting Apple products in terms of simplicity of design?

Why do you think are they preferring other phones?

- price
- more open system
- design in general
- bigger screen
- specific features
- peer pressure
- availability
- by accident
- apple hater
- ignorance (wrong perception about iPhone/iOS)

There are plenty of reasons not to buy an iPhone. Let people decide on their own how they weight the pros and cons. However I think for most people an iPhone would be the best choice if they can afford it.

Apple products are not perfect but I really like them and for me nothing else comes close to the experience. For me it's about integration, design and 'caring about the details'.

That thing is so ugly. The Galaxy S2 looks newer and more futuristic. This thing looks like a piece of junk you would find in a dollar store.

NEWS FLASH: APPLE WILL RELEASE a 7" iPhone at the next refresh.

The much maligned, rumoured concept of the mini-iPad is actually that of the next generation iPhone.

Woo hoo. Bigger is better. Better take my clown's outfit for dry cleaning in preparation because those are the only clothes I own with big enough pockets.

what ever you think about this samsung - one thing is for sure - the market is getting flooded with these "smartphones". and people will not be able to fully understand the difference between them. and - voíla - back to the windows vs mac-game all over again.

i would say that apple needs to watch how they tread forward quite carefully. they have a great media coverage and having the public eye on them. but this tsunami of smartphones will make the iPhone become more "bland" - even though it is better.

do you remember in 2007 when people came up to you in the street asking "is that the new telephone...that does all that magic..."? that is no more. now it is commodity. with this there needs to be differentiation.

0% relevant if the end user experience of speed is the same/better. I can't find any way to fault the responsiveness of iPhone4S. Faster/more cores = more battery consumption, no point in adding them just because you can

False. More core also means better scaling. Also while I didn't check the details I'm pretty sure the CPU was made with a smaller transistor size (32nm in comparison with 45nm for older variant A5), which in turn provides for better energy consumption.

Untrue. S3 is available in 16, 32 or 64gb - the same as iPhone 4S
And extendable till what? 128GB? (64 internal, 64 micro-sd).

TRUE THAT BUT LETS BE OPEN MINDED

Next generation Apple:
- Thinner
- 4"

Samsung has had That for AGES

Keep in mind that the 4S is much smaller.

i think Apple will have no problems making a much more thinner phone with the A5X in 4.8" Phone.

i Think that Apple wont increase the size of iPhone 5 but instead cut off some bezel and make the screen it self bigger. that would be awesome.

Samsung Galaxy 3 is much much bigger, therefore it has much more space for better hardware. though it can barely compete with the small 4S.

Just my thought :cool::D:apple:

Surely Apple will not follow suit with the sizing? I mean if you buy a phone you want a phone size. If you want larger buy a tablet. I might be wrong, but I don't believe anyone wants a category in the middle.

Samsung are going to end up with 3 sizes in between their tablet and their original phone size by the time they are finished.

Give it a few years........Then when your'e phone cover gets to scratched up you can use it to cover your swimming pool :)

How does it not compete with the 4s? It can do everything the iphone does and a lot more. Plus the hardware on it is incredible.

I want to buy this, but to be honest, there is NO reason to buy this phone over an iphone except for 2 things:
1)Larger storage space using SD card(not wanted by at least 90% of people)
2) Larger screen(iphone screen is not bad)

I bet the apps are way worse than what is available on the iTunes store.

Unsophisticated consumers will almost always want an iPhone, without necessarily knowing why.

I've had both and prefer the iPhone. Two non-techie, friends of mine traded in their BB for Android sets on Verizon before AT&T lost exclusivity. A week later they returned them and got new BB. I asked why and they said the battery life was terrible and they we confusing. They both now have iPhone 4S and are happy. I wouldn't call them unsophisticated they just don't want to fight a device to make it do what they want. I agree people do buy Android phones based on price and the thought well it is as good as an iPhone. Granted I am just one insignificant human but I know of no one in my little circle of life that bought another Android based phone when the contract was up,

True, it can do more. It can be used:

  • to slide down stairs, in case you couldn't steal a tray from McDonald's
  • as a shield, should gladiator games become popular again
  • surfing (waves, not just the web)
  • for sealing entrances when the zombie apocalypse comes
  • as a skateboard once you add some wheels
  • as a tray to bring your significant other breakfast in bed (because you screwed up again by buying a phablet)

So Samsung have copied Siri, iCloud, iTunes Match, and AirPlay. They copy everything, just like Borat's neighbour:

"He is my neighbor Nursultan Tuyakbay. He is pain in my *******s. I get a window from a glass, he must get a window from a glass. I get a step, he must get a step. I get a clock radio, he cannot afford. Great success!"

The storage capacity is the biggest selling point for me. The idea of extending my 16GB phone with another 64GB for 50 $ or so is indeed very tempting. Apples pricing for the the larger models feels like a rip-off to me so I'm never in the market for anything but the base storage model on Apple products.

The size of the bloody thing unfortunately makes this a no-go. The iPhone 4/4S is the really the largest a phone should be.

At the very least I hope the new Galaxy will get Apple to release a new iPhone a little sooner than October. I'm in the market for a new phone as of end of june (as I was a early iPhone 4 adopter) so waiting until October is not something I am looking forward to - neither from a financial nor a desire standpoint.

Yuck!

Sorry... too big... not a phone anymore and not big enough to be a tablet.

This is a case of bigger is NOT better! Onto the next model Samsung.

Why so much hate? Don't like it then don't buy it! Just remember that competition makes better products.

For my part - I love my iPhone 4. It does a good job and fits my hand. For the rest I use my iPad. And I like the whole Apple Ecosystem so why change? Only thing missing is music streaming

I for one will not be abadoning the iPhone for any other mobile phone in the near future. I have invested almost entirely in Apple's complete ecosystem ans it would not work as well if I introduced a 'foreign' device.

Add in the amount of money spent on iOS apps, it does seem Apple have me over a bit of a barrel :D

Everyone on the Android sites swear they never have problems. Obviously they're just keeping their blinders on. I had the gnex for a month, and gave it away i liked the size, liked it when it worked, but hated the random rebooting and data loss. Android oems and Google need to fix their software now, enough with the useless hardware stuffing!

I hardly expect that the Android sites qualify for every person who owns a handset running Android. It's not a matter of Everyone putting on blinders to deny how their handsets are falling apart in their hands. Apple has it's share of blinder wearing people too. I have also read MANY positive reviews of the same phone that you had problems with.....

They are ugly, but not because of the big screen - just cheap design. And a screen that you can't read in daylight, um, you'd never buy a second Galaxy (roman numeral). And maybe that's what Apple hopes - buy the imitator, then next time you'll get the real thing.

[/LIST]

How do you know it can't be read in daylight? It hasn't been released to the public yet? According to the Unpacked event yesterday, the device can be read in ANY lighting conditions...

Pretty boring design for samsung I prefer the look of the HTC ONE x. :)

I kind of agree with you, but I personally dislike HTC hardware in general.

If one cuts through the bs, and the branding, and the reality distortion field, for the past couple of years apple has been basically making boatloads of cash for doing pretty much nothing with their devices other than incremental bs updates. And on the desktop front with lion making things worse rather than better. Oh the ipad two added a camera, oh the air is redesigned so it doesn't have a **** latch and one usb and now it's smaller, oh the imac has a mirror glass that can't be used in pretty much any conditions that involve outside light and it's the same crap in ergonomics like it always was and with the same design for 8 years, oh every new mac is getting a higher res screen but no one in the os x team can be arsed to finally write some decent code for resolution independence and the font on the 27" imac are smaller than that on the ipad, oh now we have icloud that doesn't offer online storage like everyone and their brother are offering, but hey you can match your tunes with apple (not stream them of course) for a premium.

Apple has jumped the shark, and it won't become apparent any time soon to most people, but in two years, a bit more, a bit less, and if in the process they don't manage to eat up, lawyer away, or monopolize away the competition with anticompetitive practices, they 'll get what's coming to them for having lost their spirit and become an obese, money greedy giant.
/end of rant.

I do agree with you in some of your rant. This incremental BS is getting annoying. While I appreciate the hype of Apple releases etc, I feel that Apple should be putting the best of the best that is available on the market for their devices to future proof their performance for at least 3 years or so. I didn't upgrade my iP4 to the 4S because there was not enough incentive to do so. meaning I know it has some improved features but I KNOW Apple could have done MUCH better for us. Also look at what is happening with the MBP and Pro lines.. Neglect and crappy incremental upgrades. (Just my opinion fyi)

I always use a case with my iPhone.

It adds bulk, but I prefer the protection.
The Samsung with a case would just take it above
the size I want for a phone.

I hope this isn't the begining of a new phase of bigger devices
or we are all going to need bigger pockets.

These gadgets are primarily phones after all.

Yesterday, I removed my Mophie case and actually had to admire the phone build.. I don't get to see it that often because I don't want the camera lense area to get all scratched up if I place it on it's back. Basically without putting some crappy bumper or wrap on front and back you can't prevent damage to the product. It is a shame as if I could stand to have it naked or just with screen protector on front and back I would likely not be craving a redesign. I would appreciate something that I could lay the phone on it's back and not worry about damaging the camera lense.

Too bad the Samsung software update process is a disaster, not to mention extremely slow.

THIS is one of the MAIN reasons I have resisted switching... I loathe carriers and their disrespect to their customers by not releasing as adroitly as possible the updates for the phones. If I could be convinced that ICS was perfect as it is and I could live without any updates, I might be convinced to switch. But it would suck to buy an Android phone with a later OS and have to wait and wait to make the phone run as nicely as it should.

I recently left the iPhone for Android. I got the HTC One X, a really great little device. However, I do agree with others in this thread about how different phones suits different needs. I find Android to feel more "modern" (very sleek GUI, great hardware, big selection of phones and so on). It's also more customizable with widgets, and got apps to change every aspect of the phone (wthout jailbreaking). I can make my phone look and behave exactly as I want to.

At the same time, it's harder to use for non-tech savvy people. Sure it works great out of the box, but the iPhone's GUI is far easier to handle for beginners, and if you want to customize Android phone you will probably need some experience with phones / computers. I also loathe that even with a 1.5GHz processor they can't even make scrolling smooth. Scrolling, zooming etc is a lot more fluid on iPhones and makes for a great user experience.

Anyway, I feel the iPhone and Android are pretty even - imo Android is on top right now since two flasgship phones just launched, but with the iPhone 5 the tables might turn again. I'm glad to see the S3 launch - while I think it looks hideous and wouldn't get one myself, it does help raise the bar for hardware in the mobile industry. Hope to see Apple match it!
