Oh for goodness' sakes. The reviews say that the phone itself doesn't feel big, and I believe it from experience.

It's barely bigger than my Galaxy Nexus, which fits just fine in my hand and any pocket.

It's thinner than the iPhone, and only about 1/2 inch wider and 3/4 inch longer.

Well, reviews and your experience certainly aren't fact ...

I've had some big android phones such as the galaxy nexus and most recently the HTC one x ... I have above average size hands ... and these phones are huge and they do not fit well in your pocket unless you wear potato sacks as pants.

I see this as a joke of a phone on a train wreck of an OS and it makes me even happier to be a proud owner of an iPhone ... I love love love my iPhone.

:apple::apple::apple:

OMG, it's ****** huge!!!

On a similar note, stock prices for makers of "man purses" skyrocketed today; as sales are expected to get a jump from people looking for ways to carry this beast around. :D

Actually it is smaller than my Galaxy Note, which fits in my pockets just fine. Don't believe everything you read.

My quote has nothing to do with how ugly the phone looks and everything to do with the insecure responses of many on this thread.

 My point is you're just assuming something that will never happen and acting as if you've figured it all out. Makes no sense.

That's like me saying "if Samsung came out with siri first, all you silly apple users would say a-voice is a ripoff!" What is the point?

Discuss facts not these ridiculous hypotheticals that make no sense.

I wear size 30 jeans, slim cut. I can fit 2 iPhones in my back or front pockets with ease, and there's plenty of room of both sides for other stuff. A larger phone would fit in just fine.

Are you saying size 30 jeans, slim cut are potato sacks ?

I sell Note' at my store, god dammit how the hell do you use that as a phone without a bluetooth? that thing pretty much covers one side of your face.

It does fit in my pocket as well if im wearing loose jeans or pants but its not the most comfortable fit.

I have never understood these comments.

I have a pair of jeans on, reasonably tight... not emo skinny jeans but still. I own a lovely new iphone4s, the guy sitting behind me has a Galaxys2.

I just picked up both phones and put them in my pocket.

Same pocket.

I can feel them there, and see them, but i can still fit my hand in with both of them.

If i put them in a seperate pocket each, the samsung is *less visible* than the iphone, becuase its thinner.

Never mind the obvious question about how does a large, flat, thin, object make it look like you have an erection.
Maybe you just have a little extra room to spare in that area...

:p

I think it's nice that Samsung is catching up. But all this talk that Apple should "upgrade" its iOS simply because we've seen it for the last 4 phones is idiotic. Interfaces, like dictionaries, should be slow to change. Apple's current rate is perfect.

There seem to be two conflicting ideas here.

1. Samsung and Android copy
2. Apple copies, everything existed before.

But both are actually true. What Apples biggest contribution is is that it is willing to take unproven concepts to market massively. Then, when people see that it's gone good, they copy.
You cannot tell me that the SGSI had to look like that. You can't tell me that samsung's packaging has to look exactly like Apple's. You can't tell me that their chargers have to be the same. You can't tell me that ASUS' charger has to be exactly like the one from MBP.
These are just a few examples of how everybody is copying.
What Apple does is a lot different. They take ideas, or not widely known products, and make them known. Because they know how to.

I agree... to an extent. Apple does do a great job with taking ideas and giving them more widespread acceptance. A phenomenal job, in fact. But I think I take more issue with people talking badly on other companies for "copying" while praising Apple when often times Apple also copies ideas but repackages it through brilliant marketing (no sarcasm here...I'd say Apple's advertising is one of the best).

I'm not 100% sure about the packaging and charger... I don't think the packaging looks similar (at least the AT&T Galaxy SII box) but I'll admit that some of Samsung's chargers (not all) look suspiciously similar to the tiny Apple charger... That being said, I wonder, with Apple suing Samsung left and right for design and patent infringements and such, if it were a copy, why did (as far as I know) Apple not bring it up the charger issue in court? Seems like it would be an easy open-and-shut case... unless there's something more to it (I have no idea).

It's laughable!

almost looks too big, but some people really want that

Yep. My Note is huge, and fits in my pockets just fine....but..... are there sometimes i wish it was smaller....yes I do.
It's a tradeoff. Since I work from home and am not on the road having to make 1 handed calls from my cell, a larger phone is just fine.
On the other hand, I can put my Note up by my sun visor in my car and answer all calls, and texts, as well as send them without ever having to touch the phone using 1 of several Android apps. I've never used Siri, so I don't know how it compares, but it sure is nice to be totallyhands free when in car. Can't tell you the number of times I was using my phone ( iPhone and Note) while driving and had a close call.

We are all benefitting from the competition amongst the technology companies. Samsung appears to have delivered on the S3 expectations ( except maybe the case materials) and I'm sure IP5 will deliver add well ( only if the bump the screen size up a bit) .
If Apple ever came out with 2 size options for the iPhone, they would really stop the defection of iPhone users who want a larger screen. I always thought Android sucked, and must admit that I was initially less than impressed with it when I switch4ed from my iPhone, but now 2 months later I find it a fantastic device. It takes longer to learn how to use, but Android is totally made for those who want to customize.

Maybe you're lacking something else that makes room for all these smarts phones in your pants? :D

Actually I don't see anything funny about that photo. It's all what we are used to. As more phones become larger, it will be the norm.

Trust me phones are not going to be larger then that. That phone is hilariously huge. I've never even seen one in public and the commercials are so dumb. Like the designers sitting around drawing pictures of themselves on their note. Yeah...such a productive tool

I was seriously considering buying the SII as a new phone with some money I got for my birthday recently but decided to hold out to see what the new model offered, looks like I'll be going for the SII this new phone looks like absolute rubbish, way too round for me.

It will not be the norm, as most people will see the foolishness of carrying around a big phone.

I love when people make statements like this. "i bet if Apple made this ugly abomination of a phone, everyone would like it!"

What's the point of this? Apple would never, in a million years, make a phone this ugly. You know it and i know it. But i guess making up the silly hypotheticals is the only way to somehow come to grips with how horrible this phone looks!

I don't usually comment on stuff like this, but seriously, "Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it".

The reason why people say that, is because they remember the past. In this case, the recent past.

Do you not recall the horrified reaction by fanboys to the first leaked pictures of the iPhone 4... and all the comments that "Apple would never, in a million years, make a phone that ugly."

And then the turnaround into praise when it turned out to actually be an Apple design.

It's probably time to repost the infamous Apple Product Cycle :)

4.8" is massive. I just wonder how many users they might alienate with a screen that size. They've painted themselves into a corner with their "bigger is better" syndrome. Their fans expect a bigger screen with every model upgrade but ultimately at some stage the users are going to turn round and say, "hang on, this 7" note is not bloody practical, sorry, we made a mistake, keep it".

8MP shooter, underwhelming but more important is the new software to accompany the camera and it looks pretty sharp so once the spec junkies get over the 8MP they might discover a very competent package, time will tell...

Processor as expected, form factor pretty much as expected and a little bland.

Some fancy new accessories available too, one for wireless charging, another for mirroring the phone on a tv, allshare cast dongle I think it's called and it supports up to 1080p so it's not just a gimmick, s pebble for controlling mp3... etc etc etc...

Samsung has come with some fancy new software, if it works, careful, if it doesn't it becomes bloatware, again, careful.

All-in-all, initial impressions were a little disappointing but sit down and unpack this upgrade a little and it's anything but disappointing.

Apple, you've been warned. Bring the goods come October or suffer the consequences!!!!
