if you actually look at it, it's not that much larger than the iphone. The only reason I ever left the iphone was due to the screen thats too dern small!

I love the iPhone screen size. I do not agree with you but I will fight for your right to say it.

I wonder how well the device control/commands works. I am hoping iOS 6 (or Siri 2.0) come with the ability to do more things via voice. It would also be nice to have a local cache of common commands so an internet connection isn't required.

The local cache is my biggest request. I don't think it should be necessary to wait for "call my wife" to get analyzed somewhere else.

Samsung is really going after the super mini tablet market. 4.8" -5" screens are not phones but just small tablets. I guess if you can't compete in the phone market you try to make up your own market.

SGs 3 is the same size as a galaxy nexus. For all you guys complaining about the SGs 3 is too big to fit in a pair of jeans... stop wearing pants made for girls!!! :D

Hey it's not our fault you have so much available space in your pants...:D

So it's only slightly bigger than the iPhone you say? Well then, I guess 3.5" is not that small? :p
Yeah amazing how many ihaters whine that the iPhone is too small yet at the same time tell us Android phones aren't that big. :D

Well, when the SGS III hits the US in late June for a median price of $199 they will be able to compare it to the iPhone4s or iPhone5 and be able to make up their minds. A phone that has a bigger screen, but is thinner, lighter, and stronger will appeal to enough people to peel off sales on both the iPhone4s and iPhone5. But AAPL has so much cash, it may undercut the price on both iPhones. It should be an interesting summer.

What is this iPhone 5 you speak of? I'd love to see it.

Its all about Power

Might be one reason its bigger to make room for the battery. All these new features must have some major amperage hunger, though they might make some of that back with the OLED screen (anyone know the comparative power needs?)

I'm bummed by my new iPads greatly reduced usage, and the 4S often just survives between naps with the charger. Until some quantum leap in power storage technology happens we always have to think for any neat new feature - 'how is this affecting my battery life?'

Awesome!

Not big on the curves or the use of a PenTile screen, but in all other respects, it addresses what I hate most about my iPhone 4 by implementing the following;
  • Big HD screen --> easier for me to type on (my #1 gripe with the iPhone 4)
  • Lots of memory and its expandable
  • Removable battery for the time when, inevitably the stock one turns to cr*p

I'll be on the short list for this when it is available state-side...

The best thing for Apple and the best thing for it's fans is a competitor. Competition breeds innovation, and we just know that Apple can make even cooler stuff because they have Samsung breathing down their neck!

Also remember that 'imitation is the best form of flattery', and no matter how much Samsung are dogs for directly copying a lot of iPhone/iOS stuff, Apple will always bring it out first :D

So you are assuming that everybody wants a 5" cell phone..............

4" is enough. I'm confident enough to say that most iPhone users don't want a 5" screen. And apple is in catch up mode because is SAMSUNG's turn. It's a never ending cycle. The question is, "Who will be the last man standing in this market years from now?" and "Who makes the bigger profits at the End of the day?"

Exactly. Comparing a brand new phone with one that is 7-8 months old (and 2 years old physical design wise) is stupid. Which is what I would call anyone who thinks specs alone determine who has a better phone. At the end of the day user experience is what matters not not a bunch of specs.

Some of the things Samsung launched today:

  • S Voice
  • S Cloud
  • Scan and Match
  • Display sharing
  • S Pebble
  • Retail stores

In other news, Apple has had these for awhile:

  • Siri
  • iCloud
  • iTunes Match
  • AirPlay
  • iPod Shuffle
  • Retail stores

Android Voice Commands predate Siri and arguably more efficient (tho not as humanized). S-Voice is likely an update to the existing framework.

Cloud services are the new buzzword and have existed prior to iCloud. (I could maintain my email, contacts, calendar and communicate via video chat with multiple devices before: Google Sync).

AirPlay is a simplified version of DLNA, which is a pre-existing and separate standard of doing the same thing.

MP3 players have been on the market that look similar, and in some cases are superior and older than any of the iPod line.

Don't get me wrong, Apple is a great company and they put out some amazing products. They care about look, user experience, and customer service mores than their competitors and it shows. However Samsung isn't as guilty of 'copying' as your cherry-picking of statements seems intent to imply.

Ermm Samsung sell the most phones and smartphones out of everyone

I don't understand what you're trying to say. I don't like the design of the S3 either.

Oh, haha, I was just responding to all the people who down voted my post.

Haters gon' hate. :)

Edit: See? This place is filled with thin-skinned girly men.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind a slightly thicker iPhone/iPad or Galaxy or whatever if they used that extra space for a bigger battery. I mean phones like the Galaxy SII and Moto RAZR are already pretty thin... Unfortunately, it seems most people are caught up with thinner is better and so the phone companies are catering towards them

The Motorola RAZR MAXX seemed like a good idea but I guess it never received the traction necessary to cause other companies to start imitating. :(
