So what I'm reading elsewhere is that Apple is automatically using expedited shipping on all orders. If you call and ask for and pay for it, you have just been suckered.

I really find it hard to believe that Apple is shutting down the entire factory just because of a holiday. They're in the news all the time for worker conditions but we're supposed to believe that they're giving them off an entire week? I can't see a company like apple shutting down production for that long in the midst of a launch (not to mention a launch with production issues)

This is obviously from last release but they worked over the holiday then: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ers-strike-ordered-work-national-holiday.html

This is retarded. My friend is pi*** off. She ordered from Bell but Im pretty sure it all comes from the same place. Her order is in queue. Does this mean the shipments wont be until the 7th now? I think it's retarded also. They get a 7 day holiday to prance around, have parades, fireworks etc..

I know we all want our phones ASAP, but isn't that a little harsh? Although it sure seems like it, the factory workers aren't just sitting on the assembly lines and twiddling their thumbs. Remember, they're human beings too.

I called best buy and their mobile team laughed and said they really doubt the assembly and shipping department is going to shut down for 7 days. But who knows. They also said they got a shipment in today and usually every day or second day. I'm 4th on the list now :)

Harsh? What did I say that was harsh. I said I think its stupid that they have a 7 day holiday as of now, its bad timing. Not that the holiday should be postponed, but maybe Apple should of planned this a little better. There are people that ordered on the 20th and still didnt get it and wont get it for a while, let alone a 7 day delay.

This holiday was not just conceived yesterday. China has this same national holiday every year, on the exact same dates. Sure it looks bad at this time due to the lack thereof, of 5s supply. However, everybody deserves a holiday. If we people in the west had our holidays taken away, we'd be up in arms. There are human beings involved in the process of making our phones, and they do deserve a break.

Apple would have been completely foolish to not have had a contingency to deal with the holidays. They must have had some sort of safety net (no reference intended) to make up for some of the workers that may choose to exercise their right to a holiday. Whether it be bonus pay, or other benefits, it's more than likely that it was not a complete factory shutdown.

As for shipping, Apple works with UPS to get the phones on this side of the world. Apple cannot dictate to UPS that there workers must come to pick up, then process our phones.

Unfortunately this exercise is a waiting process and a patience builder, for an instant gratification-based society.

Apple.com orders

...Unfortunately , the fact that everything is being labelled as ' October ' delivery implies that Apple are not completely in control of the situation . Mine has not passed ' Processing' and the absolute earliest it could get here would be
17 days after order/launch !

Not very 21st century at all , and surely the product itself ( 5s) if it is to be considered the 'flagship' deserves better as do Apple's customers . Given that Tim Cook admitted that last year's iMac launch was messed up either side of Christmas , it's disappointing that it's happened on their very next major launch
again .

What you're saying is very true, as well as possible. "October" was given for a reason, which only Apple knows. The only thing I find strange is that Apple must know what the production capacity is of its factory. Therefore (unless the workers are extremely inconsistent on a day-to-day basis), Apple must understand what its success rate is, for produced iPhones.

The only other explanation is that they are receiving ridiculous amounts of pressure from carriers/service providers, to provide stock. These large companies obviously have more influence than us common people, and therefore they receive all the stock before we do. That's probably why we see carriers shipping out, weeks before Apple does.

Well you are correct. But I did hear that UPS and the assembly line workers in China are going to be working anyways.

If I had an iPhone, I would have gone through the Apple Store app. Unfortunately, I switched to Android 3 years ago (coming from the iPhone 2G). The app wasn't available from my iPad either so I had to rely on the Apple.com website. Kinda sucks but..oh well..:apple:

Ah yes. The Best Buy mobile team. Just the folks you should turn to when you need to know about international customs or what a super secret corporation like Apple is up to.

Harsh? What did I say that was harsh. I said I think its stupid that they have a 7 day holiday as of now, its bad timing.
Maybe not harsh. Puerile, entitled, petulant, immature, silly, out of touch, childish, sure. But maybe not harsh. Seven days. My my my. what WILL people do. That's like a week or something. The horror.

Seriously, I'm looking forward to my champagne too. But heaven help some of the folks having conniptions over a dippy luxury item when some REAL adversity hits their lives.

Oh your one of those are you. I'm sorry but there are many people excited for a device that they purchased weeks ago. Nothing wrong with it. Nor is there anything wrong with getting a little frustrated when time limits are increased.

Um you are aware that in China many factory workers live thousands of miles away from their families and the holidays are often the only time in a year they get to see them? And you are aware of the harsh working conditions of the factories?

Your post really exemplifies first world problems. Your iphone isn't going to become a useless piece of junk ... somehow I think you and your friend can live for a few days.

Not at all. As a matter of fact, I am one of those you describe. However, a week or month is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Actually, I would love to see time slow down. The device will be here soon enough. A day or two later the euphoria that only a new electronic gizmo can bring will pass, and then iP6 lust will begin. I guess I am saying, the having is not as a good a thing as the wanting. Although after 5 years of black phones I am going to dig that gold for a while ;-).

i'm disappointed apple didn't get the units out in time to ship 10/1, but i have no problems with the factory workers taking holiday. i hate not having my new phone, but hey, it'll get here eventually.

I gave up waiting
For a Tmobile to appear in store ( in gold) so I just placed an order online today online.... U guys shud be happy I might not get mine till November

I'm October too ordered on the day of launch on the 21st midnight after not being able to find one in the Apple shop was told they had sold out.

Seems nobody yet with 'October' has had there phone shipped.

To whomever thinks phones are being shipped today tomorrow or the next, who has a ship day from Apple between the 1st of October through the 6th of October. Nobody does, next ship date is October 7th.

And Apple doesn't shutdown factories, they simply have a contract with Foxconn. Foxconn employs these workers not Apple. They don't need to work through a holiday because you want your phone faster. Get over yourself.

If they ship near the 7th I'll get mine just in time for my birthday :)

I'm not in a rush really but I'm very curious.

Maybe a good idea to cancel and keep trying shops to find one then?

I, for one, never said it was bad for them to be off, I just said i find it hard to believe that they all are.

If they get if off, great.
