If they ship near the 7th I'll get mine just in time for my birthday
I'm not in a rush really but I'm very curious.
We're on the same boat.

This holiday was not just conceived yesterday. China has this same national holiday every year, on the exact same dates. Sure it looks bad at this time due to the lack thereof, of 5s supply. However, everybody deserves a holiday. If we people in the west had our holidays taken away, we'd be up in arms. There are human beings involved in the process of making our phones, and they do deserve a break.
Apple would have been completely foolish to not have had a contingency to deal with the holidays. They must have had some sort of safety net (no reference intended) to make up for some of the workers that may choose to exercise their right to a holiday. Whether it be bonus pay, or other benefits, it's more than likely that it was not a complete factory shutdown.
As for shipping, Apple works with UPS to get the phones on this side of the world. Apple cannot dictate to UPS that there workers must come to pick up, then process our phones.
Unfortunately this exercise is a waiting process and a patience builder, for an instant gratification-based society.
Anybody know a place to sell an old flagship android phone aside from CL and eBay? I'm putting it up when I get my 5S.
To whomever thinks phones are being shipped today tomorrow or the next, who has a ship day from Apple between the 1st of October through the 6th of October. Nobody does, next ship date is October 7th.
And Apple doesn't shutdown factories, they simply have a contract with Foxconn. Foxconn employs these workers not Apple. They don't need to work through a holiday because you want your phone faster. Get over yourself.
Or just wait, you'll live...
Everyone I'm reading that got a shipment notification today is from a carrier, shipping from inside the US or their country other than China.
It's not like the 5s is a revolutionary phone....
Oh your one of those are you. I'm sorry but there are many people excited for a device that they purchased weeks ago. Nothing wrong with it. Nor is there anything wrong with getting a little frustrated when time limits are increased.
If its so important you should have just gotten it on the release day...
FYI you chose a bad model- even in the 1-3 group NONE of those exact ones have shipped. Hopefully they're making a lot and it won't matter.
Guess what, I did go on release day and my carrier only had 3 in stock. Maybe they should of thought of stocking up 2 months ahead of time instead of only one month.
Um you are aware that in China many factory workers live thousands of miles away from their families and the holidays are often the only time in a year they get to see them? And you are aware of the harsh working conditions of the factories?
Your post really exemplifies first world problems. Your iphone isn't going to become a useless piece of junk ... somehow I think you and your friend can live for a few days.
Makes sense...How many carrier stores and authorized retailers are there in the US? And you would like each to carry inventory of how much? Now how many Apple stores are there? Seems like the odds would have been in your favor if you had chosen wiser.
Maybe my friends son won't live because her iPhone 4s keeps dying at 20% and the daycare could be trying to call her because her son could be in critical condition. And she ordered the phone on the 20th and haven't received it from a carrier.

Umm we dont have an Apple store. I am one of the lucky ones, as well as many others, that live in a smaller town. You cant argue that they should have produced the phones at least 2 months earlier. And you can't tell me that you are patiently waiting the iPhone without any frustration at all at times? Well if you are I commend you.

In response to the first point: That example is bordering on absurdity. Even if such an occurrence happened, you can't sue Apple for being negligent in not delivering a phone.
In response to the second point: The double-edged sword is that lets say Apple did stockpile 2 months early... what if there was a crucial defect with the phone? Then not only would they have to recall all the phones that may have been sold, but also remake the phones that weren't sold. Thereby creating an even bigger PR and supply problem. It would be nothing short of a full-blown cluster****
I believe everyone with an internet connection has the online store available to them. If your 4s friend realllllly needs the 5s to save their child's life, they should have woken up at 12am PST to order(or get a functional flip phone if it's so dire). I've done both the above and walked into an Apple store hours after the 8am opening and I sit with my 5s and two others as GPS birthday/Christmas gifts. And in the words of Larry David... You wait, youuuu waaaait...
Sorry but not everyone has $1000 to spend on a phone, especially if they dont have the carrier that Apple offers. So really? So you have your 5s? So really you dont know how people who dont have it feel.
They could still have defects? What does this have to do with anything? They shipped and made 9 million phones on launch day, all of those could have defects. BTW the first post was a joke lol..a little bit of humour. Either way its nice to vent..Im sure MacRumours have posts and posts of venting.
I think people are just trying to provide reality to everyone who are up in arms with Apple. It's just a phone. You survived without it 10 years ago and people with continue to survive without it today. Take a deep breath, and in time your phone will be at your doorstep...regardless of how hard you try to make it come faster
I'm anxiously awaiting a change in status for my phone, don't get me wrong. I'm not like some people who get all high and mighty, just because they ordered at midnight on the 20th. Like your friend, not everybody got their phones. Those who received their phones so far, all seem to be through pure luck. As of now, there still does not seem to be a definite "if you did A, then the result is B" answer in terms of orders.
What I do not appreciate is absurd/outlandish, derogatory, and mean spirited comments made by some people on these forums. The reason why they're here, is to have a discussion. Not an insult-fest. I don't understand why people have to be so condescending towards each other. I think everyone here is an Apple fan, so why are we bashing one another. Positive feedback is better than "oh yeah, you should have ordered at midnight", no **** sherlock. I'm sure everyone regrets not making that decision, but still wants their phone as soon as possible.
Im not trying to make it get here any faster. I was simply just stating a point. Many people are upset about this. And yes we will all live. And Apple will continue to control their customers by using mind control. It's easier to say what you are saying when you have a phone sitting in front of you, or a shipment date that is no longer then a week.

True, but I never made any insults to anyone. Actually I never do and the only time I get snarly is when people start coming on this forum being sarcastic. I dont agree with it either.

The whole rant earlier about the "7 days off for parades, fireworks etc..." was a little over the top. However that post was mostly for the other posters. You're right... it's all well and good to tell people to be patient, when you have your shiny new phone in front of you. You should have seen the reactions of people on forums, on the 21st, 22nd, and 23 of September. They sounded exactly like we do now.![]()
Not sure what the mind control is. But they made a product, they delivered a product, and there are still people who want it, so they are continuing to make more of it...it's part economics, part law of numbers, and mostly common sense. I walked into a clothing store the other day and they were out of my size pants I wanted...this kind of stuff happens all the time in the retail world.

Apple isn't stupid. They've been in this business for years and years. They know that producing a new phone would mean more demand. There are still people who want it because there wasn't enough phones to go around. MANY people want it. I know that they cant make phones for the billions of Apple fans, but the amount they made was probably purposely lower in order for us to make us want it that much more. The saying "You want what you can't have" . Its all about psychology. You an't compare a leading technology device to a pair of pants. Cmon. Sometimes I think you guys come on here when your bored just to argue with people lol. What I am saying is not any surprise to what people have been saying for a week now.
Agreed. And btw, regardless of whatever any customer service person says, no exports are leaving the country for the next week. I've worked in the importing business for years now and there's several periods during the year where goods do not move due to these holidays. Add'l October 1st is a new quarter, there's no difference if Apple sells a phone today or next week

They don't need to have a "shortage" for people to want their product. You wanted to buy before you knew you knew they were sold out and had limited quantity, correct? The pants example was to debunk your notion that inventory should be unlimited at all times. Trust me, bottom line isn't driven by pissed off customers. Money talks ...and you know what walks.
Well how about this article. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2213869/Fears-iPhone-5-shortage-Chinese-factory-workers-strike-ordered-work-national-holiday.html
They worked last year, it's very possible they will work again.
As for UPS, no one knows. Unless some forum poster tells me he works as a UPS manager or employee in China, we don't know.
Without a doubt, I'm sure the factories are open to build inventory, but I said no goods are leaving the country. It's more than Apple putting a phone in a box for ups to deliver that happens when you export goods.
