Sept 20th orders with October ship date, Apple.com buyers. [MERGED]

Same here... it's coming to Canada.
That's really weird... seeing as we both have "expedited" shipping. Oh well, we will more than likely be on the same flight all the way in to Canada (That is if yours is going to the GTA).
Same here, after canceling my sept. 20th order. Feeling so much better that I didn't set myself too far back and that there is an actual ship date. Let's hope it says that way!

On my UPS tracking page, it says by Friday 18th (end of day). I'm sure hoping that UPS has a better conscience (then Apple at least

There must have been some sort of miscalculation regarding all the revisions to your status. They probably only realized that there were not enough phones, once they were actually put into their shipping boxes.
I was extremely lucky I guess... I wish I could give some of that luck back.

I'm in the exact same boat (32gb gold AT&T, ordered 7:41am PST on 9/20)....order changed this morning to "Ships Oct 24-28, Delivery Nov 1st by 2-3 business days"....
I called Apple and she confirmed what others have said: "Nov 1st is the latest date your phone will arrive...it will likely be sooner." She also said that she could not change my shipping to Next Day shipping because it's coming from overseas so it doesn't get any faster than 2-3 business days. Finally, and I'm not sure I believe this one, she said that since the pending charge showed up on my CC then the phone must ship within 5 business days, otherwise the pending charge has to come off the card which adds another level of complexity/issues. Here's hoping that the phone actually ships next week, especially since people ordering yesterday are getting these same delivery estimates.
Simply unbelievable that it takes over a month to ship orders placed on the morning of launch....

Was joking with friends that it'll ship 10/31 since status was "Ships in Oct", guess I wasn't too far off!
Thanks for the update... kinda sad too, but can't really do much since Apple only promised "Ships in Oct." which they are honoring (as long as we get our phones!).
Surprised this is taking so long compared to previous iPhone launches and "Release Day Delivery" pre-ordering.

Did that just change since I don't think I've seen anyone's update that says dispatched by 10/18 and delivered 10/25. Congrats nonetheless.
I received the same notice, and my order was placed on September 20! If not for the fact that my current phone is an iphone 4, I would probably just cancel and wait till next year for version six, well at least we have a date now.

I hope that last part is true because the pending charge has been on my card since the 9th. Using her logic, my phone should ship by the 14-15th. My ship date (like many), is 24-28th ....Im very pissed at the process !!
The only hope I have is that people who ordered MUCH MUCH later than us (early/mid-October) are also seeing these same ship date estimates, so I'm hoping that they'll fill our orders earlier and the 24-28th estimates will be more accurate for the October orders.
Still hard to believe that if I placed an order right now, it says "Ships: October"...no way that's true if ours ship on Oct 28th.

I called Apple to ask about my charge as well but got a different answer than Wes129. I used a debit card so my bank is holding the funds for Apple, but Apple will not actually request a release of the funds until the item ships.
The rep. said there is a 5 day wait for a refund if my phone does ship and I then decide to return it. In that case, it can take up to 5 days to receive a refund from Apple once they receive the returned phone. I actually want a phone though! So the money just stays in limbo until the phone ships -- even if that's on the 28th.
The rep. also said that the status change from processing to preparing and back to processing basically occurs at random in the automated system. Who knows?!
I'm no longer excited about this phone, but the 32gb model is sold out in every color all over the city anyway.

Wow.....I thought supplies where getting better, but seems like this might be worse than last year.
