I really hope your estimate above is wrong. I ordered about 3 hours after you on launch day and really hope I get it before the last week of Oct.

Besides, if we ordered on launch day and are getting it in the last week of October, how are online orders at Apple.com STILL showing October ship dates?

I was thinking that. For those of us who ordered close to/on launch day and got the 'October' dispatch date, I'm sure they should be shipping out soon. In comparison to those who ordered end of September/beginning of October who also got the 'October' dispatch date who we can expect will be getting it shipped towards the end of the October?

=(

i ordered Fri, Sep 20, 2013 at 9:14 PM EST that mean i wont see the phone until last week of oct?

Or later - I'm not convinced that everyone is going to get their phone in October.

I ordered 50 minutes after launch and still in "processing."

You're gunna have to be really patient.

Right-- they've only indicated "Available to ship: October". That could mean it *ships* on October 31 and arrive early November.

My bet is that you're in the next group. Someone just posted in the other thread (7-10 business days thread) that their 16gb AT&T gold phones (2 of them) just went to preparing for shipment. They ordered them at 12:19 PST and 12:24 PST. Those are some of the latest order dates I've seen of either 16gb or 32gb gold AT&T phones.

I think apple will update the october thing next week, once they catch up with the first batch orders.

Ordered 32g gold unlocked 2am hong-kong apple store

12:24 is progress! But still, that's only halfway there (to my order), in 13 days... Not getting my hopes up

The fact that it hasn't updated yet tells me there are really a lot of variables in the supply chain on these phones. From Apple, who has basically mastered the art of supply chain, not being able to give a more precise window than october after almost two weeks is a pretty interesting anomaly. I would realistically think a lot of these orders will move out by the end of next week, but that's based on nothing other than a sheer guess.

I tend to agree with you, but I believe Apple bit off more than they can chew with their attempt to simultaneously launch in so many countries. They've launched in multiple countries before, just not this many all at once.

The other variable/factor is the news on launch day that Apple instructed the factories to ramp up production of gold models by one-third, so I'm curious if that ramp up is what accounted for the models that have shipped already, or if that is what might help them fulfill orders made later on launch day.

For what it's worth, the majority of your "bitten off more than they can chew" comes from launching in China. This is the first time ever, that Apple has launched in China, and the USA simultaneously. Those are the two largest markets in the world.

As for the Gold model in particular, I believe that a lot of them may have remained within China. There was an article where they said that the Gold model was hands down the most popular in China. That's why they seem to be leaving the country at a snail's pace.

I saw a few reports of saying the introduction of a gold model may have been entirely due to the launch in China, where apparently they can't get enough gold.

Whether it was entirely for the Chinese market... no one will ever know. But trust me, the Chinese have a thing for Gold. I know, because I'm Chinese. (I'm not filling out a stereotype, just going with the flow.:))

It's probably because you got space grey. I checked the Apple Stores around me today and they were fully stocked with Space Grey for AT&T now.

I ordered 3:29 AM EST a T-Mobile 32GB Gold. Still "processing" estimated ship date "October".

With what some people I'm becoming the slightest bit optimistic that I may be able to snag a gold locally before this one is going to get to me.

I think the hardest to get are the T-Mo Contract Free Gold which is what I ordered. :(

I intentionally ordered for T-Mo contract free gold from Apple.com because I wanted it Factory Unlocked so I couldn't/didn't order from T-Mo's website.

I thought it was T-Mobile's policy that they'll unlock any device that's been paid for in full. Guess I haven't looked into how things are working with the 5s.

Just checked my order status (after checking earlier this morning) and my order for a Space Grey 32GB 5S just switched to Preparing for Shipment.

Ordered it factory unlocked in Hong Kong (being delivered to Hong Kong). The ship date had said "October" since I ordered it on Sept. 20 just after midnight.

No further update on the ship date, though. Still says October, but now the order status changed. I would take my best guess that it'll ship Monday and arrive a day or two later. All Apple orders here ship via DHL -- at least that was the case with my iPad 4 and the iPad Mini last year.

I guess there is a remote chance of shipping tomorrow, but I am not holding my breath.

Lemme get this straight. You're physically based in Hong Kong but you ordered from US Apple.com site. Is this correct?

You got "October" shipping date but now it just went to "Preparing for shipment". Right?
