I called that 800 number. The agent got the IMEI number and then put me on hold.... and I disconnected after 35 minutes of silence.

Is there a reason why I cannot do that myself via the website via Add Device? I entered the IMEI and it recognized it as an Apple Watch (but I didn't go through with it)
The answer is Maybe. It really depends on your current plan as to if "Add a Device" is going to work correctly.

What problem / issue do you have and could you stop by our other thread at https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...t-not-supported.2070565/page-17#post-25109793 to continue the discussion?

I tried that. Gave the lady my imei and she said she didn’t need the eid #. She gave me another phone number that’s supposed to be the watches but when I call it it says not in service. The watch says no sim and when I try the watch app it says not compatible with current plan.
The number assigned to the watch won’t actually accept calls. That said, once it is linked to your account it should show up as the Wearable Unlimited plan.

Final update: I just called AT&T this morning, and the automated system quickly connected me to a super helpful rep. They seem to have beefed up their support, I could hear 2 other voices in the background talking to customers about Apple Watch setup. The rep numbersync’ed the watch and all is working now.

I read up here that someone kept their FAN discount, so I will check out the shared plan (not unlimited). It would mean a huge savings for us, plus tethering and text. I’m still uneasy, tho, but maybe with fast internet becoming more popular we may just see data prices continue to go down.

Thanks so much Dave!!!
Monica

If a phone rep or a rep in a Corporate Retail location says they can't touch a Grandfathered data plan just say good you don't want them to and they don't have to make any changes to "My" iPhone Voice Plan or my iPhone Unlimited Data Plan.

"I am asking you to add the New $10 AT&T Unlimited Wearable plan to my billing account". Once you provide the IMEID from the Watch that should be the key to getting this wearable plan added. It is a normal "Device" it is a "Wearable" that has a $10 Standalone Unlimited Plan!

The thing that confuses most customers and reps is that this wearable plan has a unique phone number so it must be a new line of service that needs a separate data plan or a Mobile Share plan that would include your iPhone.

Dave

just did the ATT setup for my plan, was pretty painless... also got free HBO?
That's a promo with the new unlimited plans I believe.

One the mobileshare plans, the FAN discount (that have a new name for it that I don't remember) applies to the data block, but not to the per-line access charges. Unless they've changed it recently.

No, it is real and can be done by any rep that knows how to provision a specific type of line. Please don't be rude if the rep does not know how to help you. Just keep trying it really can be done even though it is outside of the normal Workflow.

This process will allow you to add a $10 Apple Watch LTE plan to a personal billing account that has the Grandfathered iPhone data plan or several other types of accounts. Note: You can't do this just by using the watch and your iPhone from home. It can be done over the phone or at an AT&T Corporate retail location. Here is the basic information that the rep needs.

1. EID of your watch
2. IMEI of your watch
3. Note there is no ICCID to provide since your Watch is using the eSIM.

You can get the above information from the watch box.

If you call, please use 800-331-0500. The rep needs to be able to manually provision a new line under your Billing Account using the EID and IMEI numbers, this combination should lead to the AT&T Unlimited Wearable plan for $10 a month. This is a single line and is not part of a Mobile Share Group. This charge should appear on your bill as Access for Wearable 4G LTE or something similar.

Once you get the email confirming the new phone number is activated, you can then use the following steps to complete everything from your iPhone.

Complete the set up of Cellular for you LTE Watch:

On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  1. Tap the My Watch tab, then tap Cellular.
  2. Tap Set Up Cellular. (Note: you may need to power cycle your watch to make this active)
  3. Follow the instructions to complete the NumberSync for Apple Watch (Cellular).
Dave

I just tried the above; she asked for my drivers license to do a credit check, and didn't ask for the EID number (just the IMEI number). I asked if she needed it and she said she didn't. She did mention something about a 2GB plan - is that for the watch? She did give me a new number for my watch. On my att account online, under orders it says "Wireless order" "SIM VAR SIM DUMMY" . "In progress"

Does this look okay?

Added: i havent received an email yet, but tried setting up my watch, and get the error "Activation unsuccessful . We're sorry, but your order can't be completed using your current rate plan. Please call us at 800.331.0500 for assistance (EAPS360004)"

Used Dave’s method at a AT&T store in Houston. Showed him this thread. Got it working. I just can’t seem to use find my friends. Haven’t really had the time to play with it today.
If you are having issues with Find My Friends or other iCloud apps, you try loging out of iCloud and logging back in to make sure your iPhone & Watch are in sync.

Go to Setting > The top entry covers your iCloud account, select and scroll all the way down and "Sign Out". Just verify that you know your "Password". Then "Sign In" again.

No that looks wrong and there is no 2GB plan for your Watch but first check your account to see if a new line was added with a new phone number and some type of plan. I would vote for the wrong setup based on her asking for your Drivers Lic information.

The plan for the watch on a single line account is the AT&T Unlimited Wearable plan for $10. Your are not adding a true new line of service, the watch is a "Wearable", yes it has a phone number but it is not normal Cellular device. Individual iPhone lines do not have to move to a Mobile Share plan to add a wearable. You can add up to 2 wearables to your individual line unless you already have an iPad LTE and then the limit would be 1 wearable.

If you are already on a Mobile Shared plan, then you are adding a $10 Mobile Share xxxx Wearable.

The rep needs both the EID and the IMEI to be parked on the new line/plan pending you completing the Cellular setup from your iPhone. Please use the larger tread if you need further assistance: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...t-not-supported.2070565/page-21#post-25120518

I wish I could report this worked - but it did not. Tried it multiple times with multiple reps - both on the phone and in the store. Each time they kept saying my 'FamilyTalk 450 Nation Wide' (grandfathered) plan was not eligible. Each time I read them verbatim the suggestion above and the others in this thread.

I even called Apple and a senior tech was on the phone with me as we tried to get the ATT folks to understand. No luck.

Upgrading for me to a current plan will cost a minimum of $55/mo - I guess I'll just live with not having active cellular on my watch.

Appreciate the info regardless.

If you are near a corporate store see if they can activate it. It took the rep 10 minutes to do that for me last Saturday.

Yup - I did try that with the store rep yesterday. I showed them this whole thread and you wouldn't believe what they said...(insert Comic-Book Guy voice from Simpsons) 'You see, you are looking at a site with 'rumors' in its name. This is not an official site, so I can't perform what is being asked here.' *facepalm*

I wonder if ATT has updated their systems to NOT allow the grandfathered plan work-around to work anymore.

No change that I aware of today. Notice that he did not say that it would not work!

In my view just a lazy or smart-ass rep. If you run in to this type of rep just say Thanks and move to a smarter rep. If you want to play their game, ask the rep for a new SIM for your Watch. That should be fun to watch. Please don't do this. That would require you to drop down to their level of belittling someone.

Please remember that you are going to a person's place of employment and "telling" them how to do their job. Some reps don't like not being the smartest person in the room.

Swing by the longer thread and see that it works: ttps://forums.macrumors.com/threads/cannot-set-up-cellular-on-series-3-says-at-t-not-supported.2070565/page-30

AT&T is conducting training as we speak informing reps that Nation plans (Grandfathered UDP) are not eligible for Apple Watch. The last rep informed me she had just had training an hour ago and that she couldn't add the $10 unlimited wearable plan to my nation plan.

We know that technically it works, however the reps were told it doesn't and told not to add it.

I called att this morning and was shot down on the grandfathered unlimited. the only way i can add the watch is to switch to a more expensive plan. and that is really annoying.

Do you happen to know if a customer has a 10 line unlimited plus plan (i.e. all lines full), can the Watch be added-on to that account too for $10, or must there be one line already free because this device needs to occupy one of the slots?

The 10 lines is a hard limit for Customer accounts. It is a count of all devices and yes the watch counts in the total. So you would need to remove a device before you can add a the Watch or other devices like tablets.

My guess is that the rep didn’t know how to do it or was looking to upsell to get a commission. To clarify were you at a corporate store or a reseller. You should have better luck at a corporate store.

Interesting. Verizon supposedly banned transfers of UDP 2 years ago but it still works depending on your rep. It may be the same with this. Reps may still be able to do this for “customer service” reasons. I guess I’ll see what happens next year or whenever I decide to replace the Watch.

YAY, DAVE! You are a Rock Star ⭐️! FINALLY, got our two AppleWatch Series 3’s hooked up today!! We did go back into an AT&T Corporate Retail store since it appeared they were shutting that down for Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plans online (ours is the Family Talk Nation 1400 w/Rollover Plan with a 28% Company discount we didn’t want to lose). I had been told “No” numerous times. If it hadn’t been for your very detailed instructions and this site, we would have just given up and returned them ⌚️or used them without cellular. I felt like I was the store rep and he was the customer, but I didn’t make him feel bad - I “guided” him. Did have to create a separate User ID for me in order to sync so my husband and I had different ones. And lastly, they synced but didn’t ring, but I remembered while we were at the store something in the other thread about turning on WiFi. Here’s what I did and it worked:

On each one of our iPhones I went to Settings>Cellular >and (under the AT&T section) Wi-Fi Calling I turned this On. Everything appears to be working beautifully!

Don’t give up! Go to a Corporate Retail store, don’t waste your time online. I cut and pasted Dave’s instructions and I think the rep. assumed it was sent to me from AT&T tech support. My hubby & I were super nice to him and didn’t make him feel like he knew less than us. You can try another rep. at a different Corporate store if one can’t help.

So glad I found you and joined this great MacRumors forum! I think I’m your biggest fan now and want to thank you and the other forum members.

A few months ago we added my poor brother to our family plan, and got approval for up to 15 devices when we added device #11. I now have 7 iPhones + 4 iPads + Apple Watch S3 = 12 devices, on my "Promo for 30GB data plan with rollover data". Now I feel special.

Don't feel special yet, what is the exact name of your plan? Are you sure that you are not on a Business plan, maybe they switched you when the added your brother.

As you know AT&T keeps changing the names of these darn things. Since you mentioned a Promo 30GB plan, to me that implied you were getting 30 GB instead of a lower limit. All Consumer Version of these plans are limited to 10 lines.

The Business version 20 GB plan permits up to 10 the 30 GB plan permits up to 15 devices, the 40 GB plan permits up to 20 devices, and the 50 GB plan permits up to 25 devices.

Dave
[doublepost=1506845885][/doublepost]Also since you are awake, could you check on a setting for another thread?

On your Watch app could you check under Phone and see if you have an Entry for Wi-Fi Calling with a choice of On/Off?

Our statement says "Promo for Mobile Share Value 30GB with roll over" and that's several months after we added the 11th device. Cost is $130 (-) $31 FAN discount. It's not a current plan and not a business plan, but I had 11 devices for several months (7 iPhone 4 iPad) and they tried to make me change it when I went to add the watch.

At the time of activation I was told they added the $10 Unlimited data wearable plan for the Apple Watch (12th device), but it's under the same account as the others.

I see 12 users with unique phone numbers under our "View profile" but if I go to "manage devices and data" it only shows the iPhones and iPads (11 devices), not the watch.

I'd have to see the costs for the current unlimited plans, since they told me when I activated the watch that EACH device can use 22Gb before being throttled, and maybe that would be a better option for us if we didn't only use 26GB total a month. They wouldn't tell me the cost, which makes me wonder if it's cheaper.
[doublepost=1506849575][/doublepost]Also, on the iPhone watch app, under "phone" all I have are options to mirror phone or custom, with small green switches for Alerts, Sound or Haptics. There isn't that setting for Wi-Fi calling under Cellular either.
