okay, if you have crashing issue on Sim City, it's either the following that's causing it....

A: Jailbroken 2.1 or 2.2 firmware
B: still has not upgraded to 2.2

If you have jailbroken 2.1 firmware, and you have a updated to latest firmware of OS X, you are out of luck, since iTunes no longer will recognize your iPhone

Sorry, but you're wrong. The update doesn't affect already jailbroken iPhones.

Many of us, including myself, have 2.2 and the phone is NOT jailbroken yet SimCity crashed.

ummm... maybe I should've played the tutorial but how the bloody hell do you call out the Fire dept? I can't see a button for it anywhere!

oh, also - it crashed 3 or 4 times for me when I d/led it but then I did a reboot, synced with iTunes and it's been great since... guess it just doesn't work so good straight off the app store?

OK, tutorial played... I have a strange feeling they forgot to put the "call fire dept/police dept" button in... !

I'm in Japan, and I only have access to the Japanese version (all of it's in Japanese). Is the game easily playable if I don't understand what's written, or are there reports that need to be understood. I've been looking forward to this game for a while, and now I'm worried that I won't be able to play it. :(
Hooray! Found out that the Japanese version also displays English! The game's language displays either English or Japanese depending on the iPhone's language setting. SimCity looks great so far. I haven't gotten anyone to move into my city yet though. I wonder what I'm forgetting... I've got roads, all three zones (residential, industrial, and commercial), a school, a power plant and electrical lines, a water pump and pipes....

for those of you that suggest a "hard reset", I think you should know that you mean a soft reset! Hard Reset means to reset the iPhone completely, thus losing all information and settings. Soft Reset is just a reboot...

Make sure you haven't got the game on "Pause". It took me a while to work that one out as well! (If you can see two vertical lines bottom right second icon in, then game is paused. Press them and then press the play icon)

Awesome! Found out the Japanese version supports English as well (unlike Tetris also from Electronic Arts, which only has Japanese menus). The Japanese version displays English or Japanese depending on the language setting in the iPhone's settings.

EDIT: Whoops, I didn't think my first post got through (3G cut out before it finished loading the next page. Thanks for the tip, I'll now go unpause the game.

I bought this game a couple hours ago and I love it! :D There is only one problem. How do I rotate the screen to another angle?

To compensate for the lack of rotation, they implemented building transparancy so you can see what's behind. Select any building tool, or tap the question mark, to turn on transparency.

Also when you scroll around with your finger, everything disappears except zones and roads. This is another way to see all your roads.

I have a 3G iPhone, 2.2, and even after a restore erasing all data then restore backup, numerous restarts, reinstalls from iPhone or from iTunes, the dang game will not get past the title screen. It always drops to the home screen. I've never jailbroken my phone. And reviews in the store seem to have similar experiences.

Well, I too have a 3G iPhone running 2.2 and have yet to experience a crash. Ran straight from installation direct to iPhone rather than via iTunes. Been playing on and off since d/l yesterday. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

That's how I installed, directly on the iPhone, and I restarted for good measure before running. My 3G is a launch model, how long have you had yours?

I haven't played a SimCity since the SC2000 days. The number 1 app I've been waiting for is the only one that has given me trouble, dang. The fact that it seems random worries me more. Why does it work on one 3G 2.2 phone, and not on another, or works some but crashes often. Is it a bug in the app, or a sign of a hardware issue?

Actually isn't that called a restore.

Anywho, I cannot wait to get home to get this game. Does the tutorial basically teach you all the controls?

Hard reset is is holding both the hold and home button to shut the phone down, almost like pulling the plug. Soft reset I'd assume is just holding the hold button until the manual shutdown option appears. Restore from iTunes would erase all data, bringing it back to factory state. There's also a recovery mode on the iPhone in the case the OS went corrupt and can't fully start up.

I hear the the tutorial will get you going. But the finer details on managing your funds is less clear and some get frustrated when their city begins to fail despite following instructions. Wish I could play the tutorials.

Apparently shaking the phone will bring up an entry for "Cheat Codes." But no word on what codes actually work.
