I've always like the iPod touch blue but I doubt they'd get rid of space grey. Nobody gets offended by black, but everybody has an opinion on colour. It'd be too divisive.

I'm pretty sure there was a white iPhone 3GS. Get your story straight, MR.

White back, black front. They had quality issues with the white front, if I remember right. So white front was done on the iPhone 4, and it wasn't even available for order until after the black iPhone 4 had been shipping for a while.

This article was wrong in the sense that all discussion about colour in it referred to the back of the phones, but when it came time that it mentioned the first white iPhone, it referenced the colour of the front for that statement, which doesn't jive very well with the rest. Technically, though, it wasn't wrong. It just needs to be cleaned up a little bit, to say that first iPhone with a white back was the 3GS, or first with a white front was the iPhone 4.

Unboxing of a white 3GS:

I don't see them dropping space grey UNLESS they're replacing it with a true black, like the 5. With that said I would welcome the blue if it's going to be abother black front option. Every new color edition seems to favor the white front, I'd like to see some options with the black. Ideally I'd want a true all around black model.

Me too! I will never ever understand why they decided to drop the true black (black slate). I have the first iPad mini in that color and I like it so much more than the space gray on my iPhone 5s. (Actually, when I got the 5s, I first thought for a moment I accidentally ordered the silver one )
I think it would make more sense to bring back black instead of releasing just another color (blue).

Is it just me or have other people started to notice the lack of innovation from Apple in the last few years or so?

Remember DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) when they were sliding down the slope of techno death? No new products just repackaging old products with new looks and names....

Remember SUN Microsystems when they were sliding down the slope of techno death? Solaris? SunOS? (sound funny kind of like going from OS X to macOS?)

It seems a different color of iPhone is irrelevant when it comes to call quality, functionality, usability and ease of use in the real world (yes I do know Steve Jobs isn't around anymore). But take a look at the "new" iTunes interface and the "new" iOS 9.3 screens. Have you ever tried to get the pop-up bluetooth connection screen to come up on iOS 9.3 while say walking? or driving? or doing just about anything except sitting at a desk? Now how useful is that? The old control at the bottom of iTunes or in an audio app was much more functional. I doubt this kind of random "innovation" (and that's a stretch) would have gotten through the Jobs test.

So yes Apple keep changing the colors, new cases, move the controls around, change the fonts on the screen, and your sales will continue to fall. Keep watching your profit margin and bottom line by recycling old technologies and assembly systems and your fans will move on. It happened when Steve Jobs was fired and the innovation slowed and Apple almost went under. I really felt the drive Steve Jobs had was tempered by Tim Cooks knowledge and financial prowess. Now it seems we just have financial prowess it seems.....
I share your view. Seems they are not focused on the product anymore. But they do design for desgins sake and products for financial sake. I is getting worse over time since jobs is gone.

Not the front side. Only the back side was white at 3GS. The whole "white" iPhone became a reality with iPhone 4. Recall the light leak issues they had and Jobs' reaction to them.

Seriously?!? Does Apple try to attract the female market? :p
Silver, gold and rosé gold are no option for me...

They better not drop the Space Grey or I'll be dropping them. But I highly doubt that rumours.

Apple tried to play off a pink iphone as "rose gold" when it looks nothing close to rose gold...

Finally the partnership with IBM is introducing some great innovation.
iPhone Deep Blue :)

I loved the black iPhone 5 and I'd like that black version back, not the space grey which is too close to the silver version.
Black is a popular colour, I don't think they're going to provide only a blue iPhone without a black option. Either blue will be a fifth colour or the rumour is wrong

I also had the first iPad mini in black. I prefer that color to my space grey Air 2. With the space grey it's close enough to silver that I almost would have preferred silver with black front like the original iPhone.

I know so many people that only ever consider buying the space grey version, and even with that choice people look jealously at my slate iPhone 5 that I still use. Really, those people wouldn't ever think about buying a rose gold iPhone or anything like that. And I absolutely agree, that basically every colour with a white bezel looks very tacky and tasteless (the silver one is borderline though).

So, I really hope that Apple doesn't make the braindead decision to replace the last subtle colour with another tacky one. I really hope they are looking at their sales and see that they just can't do that. Better yet, I hope they'd be actually asking people what colour they want and realize that there are many people who just want a black iPhone and especially despise the white bezel ones.

Dear God no!! Keep the Space Gray!!!

And for once they copy Samsung?? Yes it is another shade fo blue but weren't they the one launching a blue galaxy??? and then there was the blue nexus??
Apple is "following" rather than "leading" nowadays :(

They dropped the slate because the anodized color was so dark that even the tiniest of scuff marks / dents would easily jump out to the naked eye. I do agree that it looked amazing on my iPhone 5 and original Mini! However, I did have to get a few replacements due to bright scuffs / dents that I wouldn't as easily spot on the colors available today.

I know they likely wouldn't call it by the same name, but the finalized blue color would likely pair nicely with the midnight blue cases.
