Space Grey always is and always was two things:

1) Devastatingly ugly
2) Incredibly popular

The deep blue looks good. A good replacement, though not as uncreative and nondescript as space grey, which plays best for those that can't coordinate colors. It's a better choice than much of the current "gold-digger's boudoir" colors Apple uses.

Space Grey isn't a great colour, but it is the only option with a black face plate. That is why it is popular.

More options with a black face plate please. My slate black iPhone 5 is a better colour than any current model. I would absolutely love an emerald green iPhone with a black face plate, but Apple is more likely to make it that horrible green they used on the 5C if they ever did a green version.

point = there are about a bajillion colors out there.. gonna be some weird names after the first million that make sense get taken.
Perfectly highlights my brain itch with space gray. There was no need to make up a new one. Dark gray, light gray, metallic gray, etc. Apple made a choice to have marketing create a new name that made no sense AND then use that name on 4 or more different colors. For a company that prides itself on attention to detail, not nailing down what shade of gray 'space gray' is supposed to represent seems half assed.
Recognize this is a me problem, not an Apple problem. 'Space' gray just bugs the bejeebus out of me. The fact that Apple just pull shades of gray out of the ether and calls all of them space gray makes it worse.

Why is apple release 3 colors with front white and only 1 color with black screen? And i hate the iphone 6 space grey because it looks brighter. The 5s space grey is awesome.

Yeah, I'm sure Apple is going to drop their best selling color.

Seriously, randomly making something up, then releasing it as a "rumor" is not how it works.

I am not so sure they will get rid of space gray. Isn't that the most popular color? I can see adding the dark blue color this year for sure Apple like to add a new color every year. But to eliminate the most popular color? Not gonna happen....
I would LOVE to see a black color though!

Apple is planning to introduce a "Deep Blue" color option to replace the Space Gray color option for the upcoming iPhone 7, according to a new report from Japanese website Mac Otakara. The new color will stand alongside the already available Silver, Gold and Rose Gold.

Was at an Apple store this week at the watch case. A sales guy was discussing the watch sport models to a potential customer who was admiring the space gray model. The sale guy said something along the lines of "We have had some supply issues with that color at it proved to be a surprisingly popular choice...".

Don't forget apple was the first to axe dvd drives, Ethernet ports and everyone said it was madness.

Not to mention they've never had a memory card solution on iPhones which was an absolute must back in the days. It never hampered their sales.

None of that is relevant to case color - an emotional, sometimes practical choice. Every thing you list is tech that was at the end of its lifecycle. Very different than axing a subdued & standard business color.

I for one will never buy a white faced device any more than I'd buy an orange car. I'm not alone. Apple sells a lot of black face phones for a reason.

Only because of the black front. I'd personally love a black front with a gold back.

I had a white/silver iPhone 5s and loved it. I didn't care so much for the white face, but liked it more for the silver backing. I would loved to have had the silver backing and a black faced iPhone instead. Now I have the Space Gray 6s; I just didn't want the white face again.
