I had the problem solved after changing from WEP to WPA... that is till yesterday when i updated from 8.0 to 8.0.2 and created my icloud account, suddenly wifi is gone for long periods of time, 10-20 mins without finding my wifi hotspot or my neigoborhs, sometimes i dont notice and use the phone not realizing im using my 3G data from my plan instead of my house wifi.

Today i used more than 250mb without even noticing... so phone is doing something i dont know when its supposed to be asleep, maybe its backing up via icloud and consuming my 3G from my plan but dosent it require wifi to do a backup?

Rightnow i downgraded to 8.0 and turned off icloud backups to see if this helps the issue, cant really spend more than 200mb of my data plan daily as it will become expensive at the end of the month.

the 'accidentally using 3G' happened to me as well so I turned mobile data off when i'm at home.

Glad i'm not alone... something used 3G at 2am (maybe icloud backup) but then again at 7am something used around 80mb of my 3G data while i was driving... Then today at around 9pm i wasnt able to find my WIFI at home... hope this is adressed by apple ASAP, cant have this issues.

Some people reporting 1mb per minute used of celular data when wifi drops.

The phone keeps stats of what apps/services are using cellular data in the cellular settings, so I should be easy to figure out what's using all that data.

Nothing showing anything above 11mb since Sept 26, I don't think it's an app causing this, I would lean more towards something to do with ios 8.0.2 and it's wifi issues.

Slow wifi in iOS 8?

Even system services show up in the list at the bottom. If nothing is showing as using data, how do you know something is using data?

For what it's worth, the Wifi issues I've seen aren't affecting cellular.

For anyone having issues with WiFi disconnecting, try restoring and setting up your phone as a NEW device. Same thing happens to me and it worked like a charm. Restoring as new fixes almost every problem, with the exception of cracked screens.

All these issues are really frustating, especially the wifi issue. Even there are many ways to fix this wifi issue (I doubt it, many people still have the wifi issue), restoring as new is somehow...the last option I want to hear.

I mean, if Apple says we all need to restore our device as new to use full function of ios 8, it's quite an irresponsible action. Especially for new iOS users out there. We need the 'it just works' philosophy

Ipad4 and 5s here with 8.0.2. Hoping it fixes the wifi issue, but no. Tried to reset network setting, reset modem, restoring as new, resetting router, using 2.4 channel. Nothing works.

It's not affecting everyone, i have friends with ios 8 using an iphone 6 and a plus with no issues whatsoever. I use My Data Manager App that measures the data i use, have always been helpful in android and IOS, have never exceeded my monthly GBs thanks to it. IOS 8 is far from perfect, has given me headaches with wifi issues only on my iphone 6 and not on other devices, so i can be sure it's something related to ios 8 that is causing and wasting my monthly cellular data.

As an IOS user for a long time i can say this recent wifi issues, cellular problems and other related inconveniences are unjustifiable and should be addressed by apple as soon as possible.

I have issues with wifi disconnecting when I'm using a radio app or BBC iplayer.

This is with the lastest ios8 and an iPhone 5s.

Anyone else experiencing this?

My only problem is with Safari on my iPad 4. Suddenly webpages will stop responding. While this is happening, I can still use other apps with wifi, and I can use Safari on my iPhone 6 with no problems. I've never had this issue on my iPhone 6.

I've reset ALL settings on iPad, but it didn't help. When this happens, the only thing I can do is kill Safari and reload.

This wifi issue is really annoying. When the wife and I first got our phones on launch day we had zero issues, but starting this past Friday they would no longer work right on the wifi at our house. We have basically tried every fix mentioned in this thread and on the apple forums. It might work every so often but when it does it is too slow to do anything. She is still on the original iOS 8 and I updated yesterday but still no help. We did order an Apple extreme router for the house because we were wanting to get a new one anyways, but the problem isnt solely at our house as she can't even connect at her work now. It's really kind of a huge bummer because up until this issue our phones have been fantastic. They better address this in the next update cause it's ridiculous the number of people having issues with this.

I have done this twice and the issue returned. The only way it will be fixed is by Apple in an update ;)

I had absolutely horrid wi-fi with my 6+ from the day I got it. Wi-fi was basically unusable. Resetting the Network Settings fixed it for all of five minutes or so. Saw a post on the Apple Support Community on the topic. Suggested fix: change security on your router from WEP to WPA2.

I did that on Saturday and have had blazing fast wi-fi ever since. Hope it works for others too!

Unfortunately changing from WEP to WPA2 isn't a option me. Doubt work will change its settings for me.

Should I exchange my phone for another one or will I continue to have the same problem?

Changing from WEP will greatly increase your throughput if you are using .11n wireless (which you should be, otherwise you have little reason to expect speed). Unless you are forced to use a ten year old .11b router, you should be on WPA2.

Been having this issue since 8.0 on my iPhone 5s.
Tried the following:

- Reset network settings: no difference
- Reboot device: works for a while, then issue comes back
- Reverted back to 7.1.2: Perfect, no issues at all.
- Put 8.0 back on, problem returned.
- Restore device as new, problem still there
- Changed wifi router to wpa2-psk, same issue
- Changed to 2.4ghz, same issue

My iPad air running 8.0.2 has no issue.

My wife's iPhone 5s also experiences the wifi slowdown/dropping out.
I also experienced the cellular data usage when it shouldn't be used.

Just now, I have disabled cellular data and it appears to be behaving itself on wifi. I will keep an eye on it and post an update after a day or so.

My 5S (8.0.2) is having wifi drop-out issues every couple of minutes while on my home network, usually only in the bedroom - which sucks because most of the time I use my phone is while chilling in the bedroom - but it is MUCH worse when running off the battery. When the phone is plugged in and charging I don't seem to ever drop to 3G.

Maybe this is some kind of battery life trick Apple is running in the background of iOS 8 without telling us? Throttling back the antenna somehow to conserve juice perhaps?

My wifi worked perfectly on my 5S before iOS 8. My wife's iphone 5 (7.1.2) still has full signal wifi even though we could be sitting side by side on the bed yet my phone keeps dropping it's signal.

How this wasn't addressed in 8.0.2 is beyond me. It better be fixed soon.

Slow wifi in iOS 8?

Apple called me today regarding the Wifi issues. I guess having an Apple discussion forum post quoted on a number of tech blogs (Cnet, BGR, Forbes) helps.

Unfortunately I was at work so I couldn't do much. He asked me to install a Wifi logging profile on my phone, which coincidently I had done over the weekend and had filed a bug report with Apple today. I gave him the bug number, but apparently the engineers want more data. Too bad I'm at work during the guy's support hours.

Well at least they are looking into it. Thanks for posting
