Anyone got benchmarks of Windows 7 running on Snow Leopard yet? ;)

If I was going to get 7, it'd be nicely squared away in a virtual machine or Bootcamped in another partition.

hmm..dude..you could have just waited for some more time...remember the time when leopard came out..hell..it was strugglin to connect to even a WIFI network (on the other hand my 500$ lappy was already on the internet..)

reg., the iphone 3g to 3gs thing..i fully agree with u...i feel...iphone 3gs should have been the iphone 3g in the first place!!!

and everyone has the right to rest on one's own laurels atleast for some time...:) give apple a break..let them relax and then the creative juices will start flowin...:)

and you are not a troll!!! the ones callin u a troll give mac fanboys a bad name!!!

This is really why apple should do open betas and release candidates like windows. Otherwise, the first couple months after release are full of instabilities and bugs that shouldn't be there due to lack of sufficient testing.

Here, have a DLL:

I'm no expert, but osx just hides all their stuff while windows gives you the option to make it visible.

.ds_store anyone?

Well look at it this way - Windows does NOT require 32-bit Kernel when running a 64-bit OS. Nearly all 32-bit programs run perfectly fine on 64-bit Windows, nearly all hardware has 64-bit drivers available and automagically downloaded/installed, and the few very old programs that won't run on 64-bit - there are updates available or Microsoft gives away XP in a VM, right as part of the OS (Win 7) so people could run those programs - just like they would on regular XP.

I don't think anyone could argue that Microsoft made the 64-bit push long time ago and today there is no real need to run 32-bit Windows. That Apple needs to default to 32-bit is a sign of immaturity of their 64-bit support more than it is a feature.

64 bit is definitely the way to go, the hardware's been around for 5-6 years so most people should have capable computers by now, and while I agree that MS has made some great strides in 64 bit support (Vista 64 bit driver wise was a exponential improvement over XP 64), they still make a few gaffes.

Digitally signed driver enforcement. One huge reason to cause issues, in order for a driver to work in Vista/Win 7 64 it has to be digitally signed, trying to turn of enforcement in Advanced Boot Options doesn't make them work either. This isn't very conducive to helping the smaller companies make devices for 64, they now have to pay MS to get their drivers tested so that they'll work on 64 bit. It's not like it's a security feature either, plenty of ways to sign devices yourself, just makes it more hassle for the consumer because MS want to line their pockets more.

No leaning on OEM partners, lets face it nowadays most home Windows computers will be bought rather than built, so the majority of users will be getting an OEM licensed version of Windows with their machines. How many shop bought computers are sold with 64 bit? Not many. And whats really annoying is when you see a machine sold with 4GB+ and it comes with 32 bit, what's the point? If MS was really making a big push for 64 bit surely they'd be putting pressure on their OEM partners to release more machines with 64 as opposed to 32 bit?

Which, luckily, is the minority sentiment. Note that the 3GS is outselling the 3G.

Maury

incredibly flawed argument. You are assuming that there is a correlation Between sales of a product, and its quality.

In 78 posts the OP has posted TWICE..Just 2 times.

Either A. the fanboys have scared him off or B. It was flamebait.

In either case this topic is useless.

how so?

There are dozens of members in this thread alone who share the OP's sentiment.

Luck has nothing to do with it. The 3GS is an incrementally better device than the 3G. However, whatever the device, there will always be inexperienced people on the sidelines with unrealistic expectations, which would include those disappointed in the 3GS.

Personally I don't think Apple have helped themselves with their advertising of the 3GS. I got one from seeing friends use them and love it, but the adverts grated on me. They should have concentrated more on the genuine improvements like improved CPU, RAM and graphics, the electronic compass in tandem with navigation software, rather than proclaiming the new 3GS with "amazing video!"

It was like they were claiming it was something never done on a handset rather than somethings that's been around for years.

The fanboyism in this thread is actually kinda scary.

Makes me think...these are the kinds of people who are apple's customer base? I am kind of embarrassed to associate with forum members who will blindly defend their silly OS till the end of the day.

I went from Tiger to Snow Leopard and still feel it isn't that much of an update? What did I really gain?

after not upgrading to the iPhone 3G so I could wait for the 'next big thing' they bring out the 3GS (yawn) meaning I'll have essentially the same phone for at least 4 yrs.

Do you expect them to make a NEW BIG PHONE every year? really?

They invested millions in R&D to build the iPhone and create an eco system of developers around it and you expect them to release a BRAND NEW REVOLUTIONARY SUPER DUPER IPHONE every year?

Well they're right then - have YOU seen video quality from another mobile phone of the last few years, to rival the 3GS?. Thought not. Other manufacturers use the AWFUL .3GP standard, which is blocky and tinny as anything, and completely unwatchable on anything EXCEPT a phone.

They basically glorified what is in Windows parlance a Service Pack, if that. Dropping PPC and not installing printer drivers and making noises about "Gain Disk space with our inventions" OR saying "Finely Tuned" when there are really no user visible speed differences in any area of the operating system.
This is a lie, there are noticeable speed differences which many users and early reviews have noted. Dropping PPC support and printer drivers were just two of a two of a host of changes in Snow Leopard. Picking the facts to suit your argument.

Then the French Guy ( I think Apple needs a new guy to run their OS show, give him a break already - all he has done is add lame, useless features but that not withstanding - he at least has shown no real invention or fresh perspective) went on stage at WWDC and ridiculed Windows 7 as being Vista as opposed to Snow Leopard which was real improvement. That was ridiculous.

The “French Guy” is Betrand Serlet. He is incredibly bright and well respected. As for giving “him a break already”, you are aware he’s been with Apple since the NeXT acquisition?

Except that with a consumer product you must advertise to the lowest common denominator. Other than those who hang on this and other tech boards people are not excited by improved CPU, RAM, etc. OTOH "amazing video," is a feature they actually want and will get them to buy. Sure people want faster devices that can store more, but thats something that really only hits after the fact. It's not unlike the way consumer camera ads stress megapixels and "Face ID" gimmicks over lens quality.

That's scary. I am still on Tiger 10.4.11, and I intentionally skipped Leopard, because I just didn't see any new features I would need from it compared to Tiger, and it is my understanding that even today, Tiger 10.4.11 is more stable than Leopard. For me, it fulfills all my needs and has been rock solid.

However, I'm gonna be buying a new mini, and it'll come with 10.6... my hope was that at least they fixed 10.5, and it'll be an OK upgrade from my Tiger 10.4.11... it's very disappointing to hear that's not the case.

Anybody else still on Tiger that has gone to SL feels the same way?

Get a PC. Get Windows. Enjoy. The rest of us will happily continue with Apple and OS X.

Oh. Don't forget to install a really good Antivirus on Windows - or you will get some nasty surprises. Hope you also enjoy Windows Updates - you'll get a healthy dose of those each and every month.

honestly this is getting as tiring as the "macs cost so much more!" and whatever else the pc fanboys tout. you can get a perfectly good antivirus program for free, and practice smart surfing and not have a problem. actively patching holes is just as good as ignoring them and waiting for one big patch every few months.

Although fanboyism is alive and real, I think its more disturbing and exponentially more annoying when after every product Apple releases there is a slew of complaining threads on here, not complaining over substantive faults or bugs or problems, but in their lack of satisfaction with a product, which they knew what it would provide before they purchased it.

Apple does not owe consumers a certain level of quality in their products. They owe their shareholders this in a sense. But like others have expressed, no one told the OP to purchase SL or an iPhone for that matter. Further, the complaint about the new iPods is ridiculously considering they have not even been announced yet. I would says, however, that the addition of a camera to a damn music player is a pretty substantial addition. What does the OP want the product to deliver?

A lot of Apple product users are whiners. Windows users get delivered crappy products but they keep their mouths shut. They know they have a choice in what they buy and if they don't like it they don't buy it. Apple consumers demand miracles from Apple, which we all know Apple rarely delivers, but after each new product release, people come on here and whine. Why doesn't it do this or why isn't this the most amazing product in the world?

Start your own company and make these perfect, obviously easy to produce and engineer, products you so demand.

Personally, I've used windows from 3.1 to XP, and never once had a virus or malware. HOWEVER - there absolutely was a hassle factor to prevention, I had to install several utilities and run scans once a day and do a ton of preventative maintenance (defrag etc.). Really, it was simply a hassle.

To me - and fanbois will scream - probably the #1 benefit of running OSX has been the fact that I don't have to deal with that mess anymore. I save tons of time.

Both OSes have their pluses and minuses. I'm not that impressed with OSX - I found windows more efficient with space and faster to the pro user - while OSX is a bit of a slow dog on even the most up to date MP.

What really however puts me off windows is one thing which doesn't seem to bother anybody else, but is a deal-breaker for me: activation. F**k that sh|t. I bought it legitimately, and I don't want to have to constantly fret that if I change some component or another, window will lock me out with their stupid activation crap. If Apple ever goes that route, I'll be gone in a New York minute - it'll be Linux at that point I guess (hopefully linux will finally be ready for the desktop)

Ain't it a hoot? :D

I've criticized certain things in OSX only to be told:

"It ain't Windows!"

"That ins't how OSX works!"

"Why do you want to do that?"

"Learn to think the mac way!"

and of course, it always ends with:

"Go buy a copy of Windows! Bye!"

The "mac mind" is strange indeed.
