The following words from the post that started this thread make it trolling: "I'm saying it because SL is the final straw for me - I've had enough!"

Damn, you're right. That's pretty harsh......surprised he didn't get instantly banned.

You must be reading some other thread.

Guess so.

Actually, he could've said "Hey, I'm getting longer boot times with Snow Leopard. Anyone else notice this? Gee, I wonder what's causing it." Not, "THAT'S IT THIS IS THE LAST STRAW!!!"

Again, damn that is some horrid, and I mean HORRID language. His mouth ought to be washed out with soap.....and then he should get banned.

See above. There are ways to make the point. He chose a more adversarial method.

Care to enlighten me?

Actually, you leave out that he says he was "forced" to by a Macbook. Really? The point has already been made: no one put a gun to his head.

I took it more to mean that if you wanted to buy a Macbook, you are forced to get a 'glossy' screen. But, whatever.

Maybe we should have thicker skins....

More like, some of us should lighten up and get the sticks out of our butts. :D

People who say inane adversarial things don't deserve to be coddled and understood, they deserve to be made fun of.

If you have problems then ask for help, but don't start yelping like a dumb ass because all that's likely to happen is people pointing at you and laughing.

The fanboyism in this thread is actually kinda scary.

Makes me think...these are the kinds of people who are apple's customer base? I am kind of embarrassed to associate with forum members who will blindly defend their silly OS till the end of the day.

Agreed.

"Final straw" of what? "Had enough" of what? The OP is making a confrontational, empty threat that Apple is in his opinion, falling down and something better improve soon mister, or else!

Instead of being a level-headed criticism (which with some edits and careful omissions, as you've made in your attempt to defend the troll, it could turn into something more civil), the try at an explosive intro made it a clear effort to put other forum users on the defensive, rather than engage in constructive dialog. Not that there's anything we as forum users can do to directly alter the course of Apple's product strategy (and thus prevent the ominously-threatened "or else!" from happening), but the onus is put on us by the OP to defend Apple anyway.

That is trolling.

There are more effective ways to tell Apple what you think of a product and how they can improve upon it, or even tell them that you feel they're doing a lousy job. We've all known this, and perhaps if the OP really wants a better product he should've made use of those channels. Instead, he wanted purely to rile people up, and that's what he got.

Maybe we should have thicker skins and be above all that and not feed the troll.. Unfortunately, the mind of a troll is such that a lack of an adversarial retort equals agreement. And so you can never really win.
lmfao is this post a joke?

He's fed up with the OS and he can't express that hes a little more than irritated without getting flamed...

I'm convinced that the forum is full of idiots. You're not allowed to critique Apple in any way. SL seems like a big disappointment to a lot of people, that's why when mine arrives on Monday, it'll be shelved until the bugs are sorted.

If you look at my post history you'll see i'm very critical of apple but I am very happy with Snow Leopard. It really cleared up some of the performance problems I had with Leopard.

And I hope ss957916 isn't a native english speaker.

No one is saying the OP should be banned.
Some are just saying he is trolling because he started the thread for no apparent reason other than to discuss his dissatisfaction with Apple products in a Mac forum, yet did not ask for suggestions, or advice on how to fix his "problems."

There are just way too many "I've had enough of Apple" threads on this forum.
This is not what these forums are in place for.
Threads should require SOME substance, not a venting place for "Why didn't Apple release something different than what I bought, even though I was fully aware of what I was buying" threads.

I broke my reply up by each sentence you you can quote it more easily and have a remark for each sentence.

No, forum goer's make up a very small percentage of Apple consumer base, and yea…blindly defending anything is silly

Sucka

Funny. I looked at the specs of Snow Leopard and could tell right off the bat that it was something that was, at this point, totally unnecessary. The current OS (10.5.8) is already better than any other OS out there.

iPhone 3GS? Too much hype. When the quad core processors in iPhone hit the shelf, then there will be something to talk about. A compass? Video camera? Copy/Paste and landscape mode were the best thing to happen upgrade-wise. What do you need a whole new phone for? To me the best thing about the whole thing is it dropped the price of the BEST cell phone/PDA known to man thus making it more affordable.

My iMac is a year old and I will never switch again. It is a powerhouse. Oh, and to all that think it's too expensive, you MOST DEF pay for what you get.

Fanboys are officially stired.

But seriously, 3Gs is a great phone.

And snow leopard has been freakin amazing, and has been waaaaay faster for me in everything.

Go back to windows though, We really don't care what other people use. Its not us who are going back to expensive useless OS upgrades, tasteless designs, antivirus software, and an os with to be frank really *****ty usabillity.

Seven looks so incredibly half hearted next to snow leopard on my three year old mac.

Oh, really? I just bought a $700 laptop with a 2.2Ghz C2D, 4GB of RAM, and 320GB HDD @ 7200RPM. I also am getting a free upgrade to Windows 7 upon release; no $9.99 fee. It's easier to pay $150 for an OS every three years, versus $120 every 1 or two year(s).

I too am slightly disappointed in SL. The only anomaly I have experienced thus far is with Apple's own software, Safari 4. Randomly, it will hang with the SBBoD and the application will cease to respond for perhaps 30 seconds. This never happened with Leopard. Ah well, I knew the risks of buying early.

Wow, are we really going to re-hash the whole "Apple hardware is overpriced compared to Windows machines" topic in this thread too?

Please, just don't.

If you really think that your $700 Dell/HP/Compaq/etc laptop is as good or better than an Apple laptop then just enjoy it, but don't try to make Apple owners jealous, because they aren't.

First off: ten dollars is not much.
Second: This Snow Leopard release is only thirty dollars. So you're 1 to 2 year @120$ is BS.
Third Windows updates are not $150 it is between 120 (for the absolute worst version) and 220$, previous Windows updates were $160 to $260.

And lastly I'm be damned if a Windows update is ever as painless as an OS X update.

So... epic failure of a post, bro.

Cool story bro

Not to mention that there aren't five flavors of OS X to choose from when doing the upgrade.

I chose the cheapest upgrade option I could for Windows 7 and it's still $49. That's for an upgrade that has no way of doing a fresh installation. If I had wanted a full install of Windows 7 Premium (the one with everything) it would cost $250.

Ouch.

I think that half the people in here, want to be climbing back into the sandpit to play. Grow up you fools.

Personally, I've noticed my MacBook Pro running much faster. Especially turning it on and off.

As for any real changes beyond that, it now finds my router without popping up a menu. Yay for being less annoying!

Really, for $30, you shouldn't expect that huge of a change. Performance increases and small changes are well worth it in my opinion.

Digitally signed driver enforcement. One huge reason to cause issues, in order for a driver to work in Vista/Win 7 64 it has to be digitally signed, trying to turn of enforcement in Advanced Boot Options doesn't make them work either. This isn't very conducive to helping the smaller companies make devices for 64, they now have to pay MS to get their drivers tested so that they'll work on 64 bit. It's not like it's a security feature either, plenty of ways to sign devices yourself, just makes it more hassle for the consumer because MS want to line their pockets more.
Actually it is a huge security benefit - requiring signed drivers, that is. That is a good deterrent against kernel based rootkits. If even a Joe user was to be prompted with a all red scary looking screen which tells him that the authenticity of the driver cannot be verified (true for the self signed driver) he will think twice before saying yes to install it.

No leaning on OEM partners, lets face it nowadays most home Windows computers will be bought rather than built, so the majority of users will be getting an OEM licensed version of Windows with their machines. How many shop bought computers are sold with 64 bit? Not many. And whats really annoying is when you see a machine sold with 4GB+ and it comes with 32 bit, what's the point? If MS was really making a big push for 64 bit surely they'd be putting pressure on their OEM partners to release more machines with 64 as opposed to 32 bit?

Actually most computers (laptops included) sold online by Dell or HP or Lenovo are offered with a choice of 64-bit edition of Windows at NO cost. Many lowest end ones even default to 64-bit

So I think MS is doing as much as they practically can to push both device manufacturers and OEMs and it is showing results as demonstrated in the link above. Apple of course does nothing with the OEMs - in fact not all of its own in-built drivers are 64-bit ready.

Fanbois need to cool it, OSX isn't perfect I'm sure we've seen our fair share of beach balls and force quits, some of which have graced the presence of Leopard.

Also I use a different router from time to time and have to keep reconfiguring between wired and airport setup each time (even though the printer preferences have both scenarios loaded up).

What else, oh yeah my blue screen of death installing the original Leopard, that was fun.

Snow Leopard hasn't fixed some of my other gripes too, for example navigating through folders with different viewing preferences - if you go backward the only view you get is the one you last went forward too!

Also preview has lost some functionality - the ability to zoom to fit.

What the hey at least we can preview movies in their thumbnail form - for whatever good that will do?!

But I wanted my MB to be kept up to date, so I'm sure in the long run I'll see the benefits.

I agree...

Well to be honest, I am quite disappointed at SL. I mean SL is, imo just a Service pack for Leopard. :(

I even made a lil' comic regarding the matter, Here.

I finished installing SL 2 days ago already, and Im experiencing no changes or whatsoever. I did get a lot of disk space back but what they did with the Quicktime player was just plain tasteless and awful  (both the look and getting rid of the preferences).

Regarding the iPhone and iPod comments, while I do agree, companies just can't possibly announce something revolutionary every 6 months. Greater things will come to those who wait and are patient lol. I didn't upgrade to the 3GS because I didn't think it was worth it (there wasnt much new to justify the upgrade).

This is a lie, there are noticeable speed differences which many users and early reviews have noted. Dropping PPC support and printer drivers were just two of a two of a host of changes in Snow Leopard. Picking the facts to suit your argument.
Really - not that I noticed *any* speed increases and if you search this forum you will find many that are telling the opposite in some areas. You drank the cool-aid - I am running SL on 3 of my machines and I CANNOT tell if I am running SL or L on the latest MBP, my MBP2,2 has slowed down on boot, lost battery life and Mail.app crashes repeatedly for me - tested both upgrade and clean installs. I went back to Leopard on that machine and I have no problems. Never mind the fact that many cannot use the OpenCL thing on their machines if they run ATI cards. In my book - all that falls in so-so category.

The “French Guy” is Betrand Serlet. He is incredibly bright and well respected. As for giving “him a break already”, you are aware he’s been with Apple since the NeXT acquisition?

Why should I care if he just acts like a joker and hypes Printer driver deferred installs, says Finely tuned when it is not visibly so, insults competitors with wrong facts and apparently is not bright enough to get ZFS in :D But in all seriousness, Apple really needs to look afresh at the OS scene and give us something fresh and innovative that they are otherwise accustomed to giving us.

You could remove the words "Snow Leopard", "OS X", "Windows", and all other variations, and this thread would still be hilarious!

I disagree. Just because there aren't a lot of shiny new features, there are plenty of overhauls under the hood. 90% of all applications have been rewritten, no service pack update Windows has ever undergone. Even a full OS update with Windows doesn't see that sort of an overhaul.

He's probably not your pal either, guy.

He's not your guy, buddy.
