i'm in the US -- wyoming, to be specific.
just got off the phone with customer service. my UTD order was placed in mid-june. my online status still reads "not yet shipped". i was told multiple times during the week that UTD orders were the same as those for $29. the reason i asked those times is that i wanted a copy today and was willing to pay $29 for the guarantee. each rep assured me that there was no need.
anyway, the relevant point here is that today's rep checked on my order and told me that it was shipped via USPS *yesterday*. she said apple has a "special service" with the USPS (what?) and there is no tracking number. however, although it could be delivered today (sounds doubtful; i also live in a relatively remote area), tomorrow is also a possibility.
the frustrating part is that we just won't know.
UPDATE: 10 seconds after posting this, i re-checked my order status and see on the web that it is now listed as "shipped" (via USPS) on 8/27, with delivery in 4 days (9/1). there is no tracking info available. i suppose it could arrive earlier or later, depending on where one lives.
while there are many bigger worries in life, it's a little disappointing to be told one thing then find out it's another. i see nothing wrong with being excited for a new OS and wanting to use the weekend to test it out (and having time to roll back) before the typical work-week begins on monday. for me, getting it on 9/1 means i might as well get it on 9/4. again, frustrating and not the end of the world...but disappointing considering i would have paid $20 more to play with it a week earlier.
