It's already stellar and can't wait to see the finished version.

When I visited YouTube, it asked me to install QuickTime Enabler. Does this still work?

Thanks for your help! Two working, modern browsers to choose from on a PPC G3!

Glad it worked out. Unfortunately i tried to implement qt enabler but it didn't work out. Originally up until a month ago AF would download YouTube videos, but YouTube changed again and broke that functionality as well.

Cheers

The last change Youtube made has killed all the methods to play low res Youtube on low end Tiger machines - youtube-dl could come to the rescue but the developers have point blank told me Youtube don't do low res - despite me showing them the proof.
At the moment this is the solution I have on my G3 iBook:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/using-coreplayer-with-ppc-media-center.2195522/#post-27690715

However, 360P h264 playback might be a stretch on your 500Mhz iBook - my 600Mhz model only just manages.

Yeah, the absence of Altivec is a great disadvantage for video playback on the G3. In comparison, my Sony Vaio PII 400mhz with 2mb VRAM could pull off 480i/576i playback and without frame skipping. Apple didn't "catch up" in this respect till the G4.

Hi wicknix,

Trying to use Articfox or IceWeasel I allway get an error when starting.
I'm using a powerbook5,3 17" 1.5Ghz G4.
Do you have any idea what my be the problem?
TFF runs fine in the same machine.

Hi wick,

The error I'm getting in both cases seems to be the same

10.4 or 10.5? 10.4.11 is the minimum requirement. IW is TFF, just slimmed, so I'm not sure what is causing that error. Just be sure both AF and IW are in the Applications folder as that's where their libs are linked to.

Cheers

Hi wick,

I'm on 10.5.8.
I moved both apps to /Applications ( before they where at /Applications/Internet ) but the same
errors occurred.

I'm using Traace's ArcticFox.
Do I still need to have macports installled for iceweasel?

Leopard Webkit has been a bit funny lately as well, with videos that have ads. The ad will play, but the video just spins in place. I’m not sure if it’s my setup, but I haven’t changed anything, so I’m not sure what’s going on. SMTube still works fine.

Hi all,

Just some info regarding the bookmarks limitation and installing new addons:

1. Another alternative for bookmarks that can be managed inside ArcticFor is to use
one of the following addons available in the palemoon addons site: Speed Start ou Super Start Speed Dial.
These provide a "quick dial page" by default when you open a new tab. You can add sites manually or from
the context menu. Speed dial also allowes you to create "folders" so you can group bookmarks.

2. Adding new addons. For this to work and the addons be detected by Arcticfox you have to copy them
to the extensions folder inside the powerpc profile and rename them to the id that you can find in the
file install.rdf inside the xpi file and keep the xpi file extension.

Right now I'm using besides uMatrix and uBlockOrigin and greasemonkey:

- DownThemAll ( download manager ) version 3.0.8 ( search for downthemall tff 3.0.8 ) then change the
install.rdf file inside to include after seamonkey the below text and rename the xpi file to

{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}.xpi

With this addon you can limit the download speed to lower cpu usage while downloading and
also have more options for downloading ( start, stop, resume, multipart download, etc )

<!-- ArcticFox -->
<em:targetApplication>
<Description>
<em:id></em:id>
<em:minVersion>27.0</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>28.*</em:maxVersion>
</Description>
</em:targetApplication>

- Speed Start ( quick dial page )

rename to SStart@Off.JustOff.xpi

For AF on 10.4/10.5? Doubtful. Possibly, but doubtful. I don't really use 10.4/10.5 much any more. I switched all those machines to Linux, except for 1 of my G5's that still triple boots all 3. There is already TFF and IceWeaselPPC that basically share the same underlying mozilla code as AF anyway. There really isn't much difference between them other than the user interface. I might do an updated IceWeaselPPC when TFF hits it's final release however.

Hi wick,

Can't we just use the same steps you did to rebuild a newer version of AF for 10.4/10.5?
Still on a best effort action ( no obligations ), I would like to help if possible :D

Best regards,
voidRunner

It's not really that easy. Getting 27.9.15 to build took literally weeks of hair pulling, patching and ugly hacks to get it to it's current state. To build an updated version would mean starting from scratch all over again. Best case scenario would be to try fixing the lingering quirks in 27.9.15 to make it 100% functional. The code in this project is a mixed bag of arcticfox, aurorafox, and tenfourfox. I can't simply just merge code from current AF in to it. Doing so would more than likely break it. However, the winter months are coming up, so i may take another stab at it again some day. No promises though. If i wasn't involved or interested in multiple other projects where i had more time it might be a different story.

Cheers

Hi wick,

As I said if you need help let me know
At the least to help with building it.

@vddrnnr Thanks for the tip about Speed Start. I've attached a copy to this post for anyone who wants to use it. Works way better than my original TFF export bookmarks trick. Just copy a url, then open a new tab, right click and paste link. Easy peasy. ;)

To install: extract the .zip, move the .xpi to ~/Library/Application Support/ArcticFox/profiles/powerpc.default/extensions/

Start AF, open a new tab, right click to show menu. Various options to mess with.

Seems that you can't extract the xpi from the zip, as both Apple's Archive Manager and The Unarchiver extract BOTH the zip and the xpi. Compressing and renaming the resulting zip to xpi, then moving it into the directory and running AF makes the xpi disappear from the /extensions folder.

Odd. Just tried extracting it, and got the .xpi file. Anyway, i'm attaching the .xpi in a folder to this post. Try that.

Cheers

An update on an earlier issue with IceWeasel: after replacing the prefs.js file with the PowerUOC version, I'm now able to access the options to create a thread or reply to an existing one, without the broswer crashing on me.

It seems that there was something about the original file that caused a problem with IW but now I have full use of the browser plus the tweaks and I can post on MR from IW. That's a result in my book. :)
