Going to be a massive hit this phone. Apple have this right.
Once my current contract ends I'm all in on the XR.

Same here, I'll be replacing my 6 Plus with an XR and hopefully at the end of the month, I'll be replacing my Air 2 with a shiny new 12.9" Pro. Then I'll be living in poverty while my bank balance recovers. :)

Don’t expect Apple to make an all out press to meet demand people. Expect supply constraints for a long time. High margin devices like the XS/XS Max are Tim’s priority.

Frustrating you into an XS Max is the end game.

Stay vigilant. :apple:

Not selling out as fast as past years. I think the whole smartphone market is oversaturated. The good 'ole days are gone.

Not yet. Apple is just coming up with a disastrous product line-up this year. They obviously haven't learned anything from the 5C catastrophe.

They should have taken the 4.7" inch chassis from the 6/7/8 line and make a device in just one color that has a smaller display than their flagship line-up, yet 5" inch all-screen with FaceID and the latest processor. Combined with a -100$ price tag compared to the current XR, they would have satisfied customers both in markets here who probably bought SE's before and customers in emerging markets as well. Leave them the headphone jack, and you have a midrange smartphone package, which could deliver the sales numbers you need in order to focus on the top-notch line-up (iPhone XS/Max).

Here in the UK 1hour and 8 minutes after preorders open and every colour and every size is available for delivery next week.
It’s the most available iPhone preorder ever - incredible.

I’ve never seen this before with iphone

Wonder if this means demand is not as everyone expected.

Can't blame people for waiting for real reviews before choosing between models. Most XS reviews suggested waiting and the 'look they come in colors' hands-on yesterday were uninspired and unhelpful.

Apple a few years late here with the yellow... :)

The yellow iPhone 5c begs to differ.

If I were getting an XR, I would have ordered it in yellow. It’s a warm, sunny color. :)

They were very helpful in demonstrating that the XR's depth of field feature is horrendously broken

No, it means Apple forgot to artificially restrict availability to create more demand and queues. /s

Seriously, it means Apple built more iPhones than needed to fulfil the demand in the first hours of pre-ordering. As they should have.

What 5c catastrophe? Everyone walked into the store to buy a cheap 5C, and left the store with a more expensive 5s. Brilliant marketing.

Ummmm.... if every color is still available, how do you know that Coral & Yellow are the least popular??
It seems like the only possible way you could surmise that is if every other color except those two were sold out.
You couldn't know that anyway, because Apple will have made (hopefully good) guesses how much they will sell of each, and produce different numbers. If _every_ color is available, we know nothing. If one color becomes unavailable, we don't even know that it was popular, we only know that it is more popular than Apple thought.

I don't think you can tell from this. I would not expect a second tier iPhone to bring folks in who are willing to stay up late or get up early for a preorder of a product they never seen in person and haven't even seen a real review about. And by definition, if you were willing to wait the month delay from the release of Xs, then you aren't in a super hurry or you aren't impatient.

Also, I don't think "oversaturated" even really means anything. Does pretty much every adult in the world who makes any significant amount of money have a smartphone right now? Yes, I'd say so. Does every one of those adults plan to buy a replacement at some point? Yes, I'd say so. But does this make the market oversaturated? Or just does it make the market mature?

Anyone who went from iPhone 7plus and bought this one,
Can you compare the screen, camera, speakers and battery life, please?

Is it worth to change the phone?

Why would you think that passion for one device is related to the cost of the device? All sorts of people would line up for devices. Its not a second tier devices in terms of functionality. In price perhaps.

You're right, it's 4th tier in functionality

XS > X > 8+ > XR

Looking at my Apple Store App was suprised to see the Yellow 128GB was the version getting delayed availability. The yellow and blue do remind me of the Nokia Windows phones in those colors.

Am blown away Apple doesn't have color matched cases though - these phones just scream for that and lots of profits there. Wonder what the story is?

Can you order an unlocked version of the XR ? I don't see the option to order an unlocked version as you can with the XS

Yes and no. You can order a T-Mobile version (which will work for AT&T and T-Mobile) and take the SIM out before turning it on and it'll be unlocked (other carriers may be unlocked as well, I've just had experience with T-Mobile). But its not an officially "unlocked" model without a SIM inside.

I'm going to wait on the real "unlocked" model just because I want to (and they used to be the only ones that came with a SIM opening tool). Apple has done this in the past (no unlocked in the U.S.) when supply is low. The real unlocked model comes along a month or two later generally.

There is no 3D Touch. Initial YouTube reports say the selfie camera’s portrait mode is less robust than XS. Only one lens on the back. Less RAM.

Yeah no.

They want the XR to be big in China, where people love their phones to be big.

Don't get me wrong, I have an SE and I'm super happy with it, but it's time to face the music: we are a minority and Apple has no intention to cater to us anymore.

Also, you can't simply take the chassis from an iPhone 6 and slap a bezelless screen on it. It is something which requires a full re-design and re-engineering. And that is very costly stuff which will not a cheap device make. It is not like what they did with the SE: take a 5S and just slot in a new CPU and new camera.

Finally, headphone jack? OMG, folks, it ain't ever going to happen. The headphone jack is dead. And it is never going to come back.

All of the things you mentioned are first world problems. I'm also sure 99% of the population don't even know or use 3D Touch and most of the people who take selfies (even those Kardashians) don't even know what portrait mode is. It also has the same amount of RAM as the $1000 iPhone X from last year and more RAM than the iPhone 8 (which is only one year old).

iPhone XR pre-orders kicked off at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time, and just a half hour after orders went live, some colors started selling out and became unavailable for launch day delivery in the United States.

Right now, some yellow and PRODUCT(RED) iPhone XR models from T-Mobile won't ship out for one to two weeks, delivering in November instead of on October 26. In the UK, iPhone XR supply is also starting to slowly sell out, with coral and yellow models starting to list a one to two week delivery estimate.

All other colors are still available for launch day delivery in the United States at this time, but available supply for in-store pickup has dwindled for some models in some areas.

iphonexrmodelssellingout-800x378.jpg

It's not clear if yellow is a popular color choice or if Apple made fewer yellow iPhone XR models, but with one color selling out, the others could soon follow.

Apple did not provide SIM-free models of the iPhone XR for pre-order in the United States, which typically means that supplies are not quite as strong as Apple would like. SIM-free models are, however, available in other countries around the world.

Curiously, Apple has also not provided iPhone XR cases for the new device, which is unusual as new iPhone releases are typically accompanied by matching cases. iPhone XR press releases in some countries mentioned that Apple would debut a clear case for the iPhone XR to show off the colors of the device, but no such case is available as of yet.

If you're planning to get an iPhone XR, it's best to place an order right away if you want launch day delivery, because it's not clear if and when available stock will sell out. Apple will, as always, have some devices available for walk-in purchases on October 26.
