I selected Verizon and paid in full. You are then told the device can work on all carriers. It will come with a SIM from the carrier you select, but you can replace it with the carrier of your choice

Agreed. Those differences in no way make it a junior varsity product. It's all how much money people want to spend and what they find to be important; Apple is providing a wide product feature - product cost bandwidth to appeal to the largest possible amount of buyers. Anecdotally, I've never used those missing features on my X; I wouldn't miss them. I don't keep enough Safari windows open concurrently to make use of the extra RAM; task switching as implemented seems (probably necessarily) kludgy any way. When the X came out, I'd take a lower cost version if it had the OLED screen. But that's just me.
This is a first world product. It has half the RAM of a $500 non-Apple phone from last year.
There was a Windows central poll a while back, most of us old Nokia Windows phone users went to android for its customisation than went to iphone. That was a few years back, I'm not sure about now.

Based on past performance, Apple will sell hundreds of millions of the most popular consumer product of all time.
Launch day means very little. Apple is probably the best promoter of their products of any company. Apple wants a long buy cycle, so don’t worry about promotion. Everyone will know about it soon.
Just checked again in the UK at 13:45 for giggles, and still the only devices not available for day one delivery are the 64GB Yellow and Coral.

The A12 alone is by far the leading chip in the industry and there are plenty of examples Apple hardware is superior. Not to mention, many want iOS and nothing else.

Normally the MacRumors threads are full of people talking about their own preorder. Instead it's full of people talking about how painless it is.
Too bad Tesla isn't taking in-person preorders for a new car next week. It was hilarious with the iPhone 5C launch when morning news crews across the US went to malls planning on covering that, but instead there were 10x as many people preordering a car, so that ended up being the news.
Anyways... I wonder if this will finally pop the AAPL bubble. Probably not. Most people don't see capable of realizing that you don't need to wait for financial data - you can already get a pretty good idea of how it moved based on how many people are actually buying products. Massive reduction in iPhone sales this year? Profits are going to plummet.
I like my 3DT. If the XR had 3DT it would have been a slam dunk and while that’s what the rumor mill had reported, it’s still disappointing.
Now I’m going to have to get the XS.
I honestly didn’t even know today was preorder day. I don’t know anyone that has an interest in this.
Not selling as well....as I figured it would. Six hours after ordering started and I can get any size and color I want on launch day (Verizon). Thought this thing was going to sell like hot cakes?
There is a lot less differentiating the XS and XR this year than previous years with the X and 8

And yeah, Tesla is doing great.
Tesla just reported they lost more money than in any quarter before and are parking model 3s in a massive lot because no one is buying them.
Tesla is unprofitable, probably will need to raise capital, has a crazy criminal CEO, is in manufacturing hell, and makes a product that is a step backward from gas cars.
Meanwhile, Apple makes $60B/yr, is worth $1.1T, and has the best CEO in the world. It’s clear which products sell better and which company is in better shape...lol.

No, if I go in on November 1 it would be £35 (11th monthly payment) + £69 upfront cost. The upfront cost goes forward not back. In fact technically the Upgrade Programme isn't actually an upgrade, you never "continue" your programme, every year you sign a completely new contract. £69 + 11 monthly payments + giving your current phone back (or, if you want to just keep your current phone and don't actually want to upgrade, £69 + 20 monthly payments) completes your contract and your "upgrade" is basically you starting a new IPUP from scratch.
Doesn’t it make sense though? Many people who care enough to pre-order went with the Xs models.
That’s good news for me, since I want to try the device in store before committing to that kind of expenditure.
