WOW! Got a Coral for my Mother right at 12:01am PT and it was the easiest iPhone order ever. Normally the process is bogged down and slow... very glad!

Didn't they use the same ploy with iPhone 5c? Plus, those who were burnt by the iPhone Xs and Xs Max issues aren't going to rush to be paid beta testers again.
Uhh, I really don’t think Apple planned on people buying the Xs or Xs Max and then turning around and buying the Xr a month later...

This phone is going to be Apple's biggest success.

MacRumors readers / tech / apple geeks are probably not Apple's customer base for this phone - So I am not surprised the hate that its getting in this thread.

Regular people who want an iPhone and don't want to spend all of the extra cash - and they have a phone with a little bit of a different screen, and bringing the new design language to an affordable price, along with the most recent processor - Apple hit the nail on the head. I just wish they made a nice emerald green/forest green one.. (anyone want to photoshop me one?)

Tesla is unprofitable, probably will need to raise capital, has a crazy criminal CEO, is in manufacturing hell, and makes a product that is a step backward from gas cars.
Finally! someone else who can see through the Elon Musk nonsense. The "tech press" seem to love this guy but who else would sell $35000 Model 3 cars at a 17% loss!

Ordered at 2:01 am CDT for my mother. Looking at the store now, well I could have just slept. I guess it wasn't going to be as popular as I thought. Maybe this Christmas. Good news for those who what it SIM Free soon.

Most people don't understand the business side of Tesla.

Don't get me wrong, Elon Musk is a genius, but he's losing his mind and Wallstreet has fallen in love with the idea of electric cars. The company is drowning in debt and is selling unprofitable cars at a loss.

He's also going to have intense competition from manufacturers that know what they are doing too. There are many car makers that have better production than Tesla...far better. Tesla's factories and robots are old. Nothing like BMW, Porsche, Toyota, or Mercedes.

The mainstream being older adults and kids, hell even more money conscious individuals. This is the perfect next phone for my mom/dad whenever they decide to upgrade their 6s’s. The market for this is large, but it’s not geared for the vast majority of the people on this site.

IMO those are the folks who won’t upgrade period unless they’re forced to. My parents hate change and said he’ll no when asked. Lol. But I do know the XR is simply too big and would be a nonstarter for them. The XR is pure marketing speculation like the 5C was. It’s round 2 and apple thinks they got it this time. I’ll agree they set this up better but it remains to be seen.

Considering prior history has been a bust you pretty much should err on the side that the XS/XS Max will perform better for apple. I sure as heck wouldn’t be betting the farm on XR if you’re a stockholder or analyst. Not to mention the 7 and 8 is still for sale which are even cheaper if that’s the crowd that’s supposed to buy XR.

Ditto - bought one for myself. But since I was already awake due to stress related insomnia I just ordered it anyway and got a case and screen protector off of Amazon then fell asleep for 45 minutes before my daily alarm went off.

Have ever seen launch day availability this far after ordering begins for an iPhone? I’ll answer that for you. Nope, this is unheard of.
So is the Xr release being a month after 2 new iPhones were announced (and supply constrained until recently and still are in Asia).

Again, you have no idea how many Xr have been produced. The rumors are that Apple has been ramping Xr like crazy. They probably have great supply.

The real question is, how will it do over a 6 month time period? Initial sales even if great are still only in the 10s of millions range. Apple sells 225M phones per year, so they need (and historically have enjoyed) strong demand to continue long after initial launch sales.

My biggest question still is how good will portrait mode be on the Xr — that's the deal breaker for me. is the software good enough to look as good as my iPhone 8+?

Yeah...been waiting for model 3 for 2.5 years, just finished production this month and is on a train to the east coast right now...Still a 2 year wait to get one...so that’s a lie
[doublepost=1539957534][/doublepost]
Still won’t be locked to a carrier though, but I don’t think they come locked either way if you don’t pay in full if you do the upgrade with Apple.
Look at the financials...

I can get a model 3 today. Tesla has ordering problems too. The people that pre-orded are waiting longer than if you just walk into a dealership.

The financials are public. Nothing I said is a lie. There are pictures of thousands of Model 3s just sitting in parking lots.

I'm surprised they don't do this more often, even with the Xs and Xs Max, by spacing out the releases even by a week or 2. Seems like it would make the process a little smoother.

I have a feeling that people who are involved/around/interested in tech see Elon Musk as a "new way of thinking" and in their mind that's immediately better than what came before. However, as you point out, "BMW, Porsche, Toyota, or Mercedes" to those companies cars are their bread and butter and they are way more experienced than Tesla.

Like a lot of people have said the Xr is not an enthusiasts phone, most of them will have purchased a Xs or Xs Max. The problem I see is that it's competing against the 7 or 8 and a lot of people don't actually care about the features of the XR, if they can get a newer iphone for a couple hundred dollars cheaper, they might choose a 7 or 8 over it.
It's hard to know at this point how well it will sell obviously, I don't doubt it will sell a lot, but whether it sells as well as Apple hopes it will I don't know.
I have a iPhone 7 and am tempted by the Xr but primarily for it's battery life, my 7 is attached to a charger if I have a heavy day using messaging apps. However I am also tempted by a second 8+ which also has good battery life and I can get it a lot cheaper.
