People are entitled to their opions, but many people want this and will use it. Yes, it will make Apple a lot of money. it doesn't mean they wasted their money or it is a bad device. I want one sometime, I hope those who own one enjoy the experience. Each their own.

It’s criminal how much Apple is charging for a headset, everything they do is over charged like the case etc, the headset will be fun like other vr headsets but people will use it then put it in the draw for months

Apple’s VR is dead on arrival.

This is a result of Apple’s poor relationship with app developers and competitors.

As we have now seen all the major companies Apple desperately needs are not only not developing for Vision Pro but are yanking their iPad versions from being compatible too.

I suspect their behaviour with the 27% third party app store fee this week has been the straw that broke the camels back.

Downvote me all you want but these are facts… they have no interest at all supporting Apple’s entry into another new category and continuing their market dominance and for once Apple needs them more than they need Apple.

Apple are screwed.

So, you’re saying that a decision that was announced this week affected developers not making apps for the past seven months and it’s not at all related to Apple’s strict secrecy and control over launching a new product category? That’s a weird take for sure.

Seems a bit pessimistic! I've used VR since the GearVR on the Samsung Galaxy phones, through to the Quest 2 and now Quest 3 - and there have been clear and appreciable improvements in reduction of screendoor, screen refresh, battery life, PC link over WiFi 6 to play Half Life Alyx and KayakVR etc.

There are apps to take Apple Spatial video and convert it into SBS for playback on the Quest in 3d, and a burgeoning community on SideQuest converting/developing all kinds of interesting use cases including handtracking, piano tutoring etc.

What makes you think Apple's entry to the space won't increase this level of development? The more the merrier in my opinion!

Just wish I had $3,500 available to throw at it. If in a few years it hits under $1000, I might have a chance of getting one.

The unfortunate, painful reality is that Apple Vision Pro is a meme by design, more so than Apple's hostile relationship with developers.

You'll look ridiculous wearing it in public. Battery life lasts 2 hours. It's heavy and cumbersome. Your SO will break up with you if you converse with them with it on.

The only way I can see it being successful is if it is light and elegant, like a pair of glasses. Unfortunately it is impossible to engineer electronics so small to deliver their wanted feature set.

You can't possibly convince me this is how people will use Apple Vision Pro. It's ridiculous.

$3500 for a VR is very much in line for the expected features.

To be able to view in 3D, places I could not be able to experience, would never visit due to health/mobility, nor can afford:
  • Antarctica,
  • North Pole - Norwegian fiords,
  • Machu Picchu,
  • Mt Fuji,
  • Mt Everest,

What's criminal is the Mac Pro at $13,000 and it doesn't include the display!

We will not know if the product is dead on the arrival. It is a pretty new product so it will take a while to judge if it succeeds. Keep calm, observe the trend how the product is adopted, be patience to judge and be happy 😊 Life is too short to be unhappy on anything 😊

The OP does have some valid points but I wouldn’t hold up the lack of support by Apple’s direct competitors and frenemies like Google as the death knell of the VP. Why would Meta, who competes directly with Apple in the VR/AR space, roll out its bread and butter apps for Apple in order to help it succeed on a platform that will only have 80,000 users during year one? Netflix competes directly with Netflix in the streaming space with Apple TV+.

Google doesn’t have an active VR/AR product it’s pushing at the moment but we know they are playing in that space and we don’t know which products are in development that might compete with the VP in the not too distant future. They also compete with Apple in the video streaming space though YouTube is a bit of a different animal than Apple TV+ and Netflix.

YouTube & Netflix et al will put out apps in their own time. All the click-bait headlines of YouTubers saying they are bailing on the AVP are just that, click bait.

Likewise, all this clamor over developer anger at Apple is fueled by Epic & Spotify. There is no groundswell movement of developers against Apple. Especially since the App developers in IOS tend to earn more money than those who develop on Android.

It should be clear that Apple has a long-term strategy for the AVP.

It cracks me up those of you who are saying "but the AVP doesn't have X!" even before it has launched.

There are visionary and enterprising people and businesses that will take advantage of Apple's big push into this space. There will be first-movers who release apps and will be able to get a foothold. And Apple likely has software under development that will be groundbreaking on this platform, much like they have Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro.

The fact that you don't see it yet might say more about you than it does about Apple or the AVP. They didn't go into this on a whim.

Which is an utterly meaningless data point without knowing how many units were produced and how many were allotted to each store/region.

This is Herd Manipulation 101. Produce your product in limited quantities and then "sell out" quickly in an effort to generate FOMO. If Apple pre-sold a million units, that would be very impressive. If they pre-sold 10K units, that's not so impressive. But to the consumer, it appears the same because the device is no longer available.
If each store was allotted 100 units, that would total around 27,000 units. Then add to that all the units by delivery. Difficult to guess the actual number.

Fact: apple has zero preinstalled AR apps, all of them are iPad apps with VR features.
Whether they do or not, right now, on day -11, says nothing "factual" about the AVP over the next two years, which is the timeframe the OP is discussing.

Again and again, these "they don't have X! yet" ignore the reality of new product launches. The original iPhone didn't have copy/paste. Or an App store. Or really much of anything. It's all sound and fury signifying nothing.

Criminal may be the best way to describe it, since it most commonly means something against the law and punishable by the state.

This was DOA since the rumors. Gaming is the biggest content available for a device like this and other headsets that have many games aren’t insanely popular.
Perhaps indicating that gaming (or the Metaverse) isn't the killer feature that many seem to think it is. Hence, Apple hasn't focused on traditional gaming, AR, VR applications.

And if each was allotted 10 units, that’s 2700 units. No one but Apple knows, so it’s all meaningless conjecture. What I do know is that I can still order a Vision Pro from my local store for pickup on 2/3, so my hunch is that these aren’t moving quickly.

It’s selling like hotcakes you’re dead wrong. there’s always gotta be someone that can’t join the bandwagon probably because of cost!

Love your passion! Not wanting me to be right unfortunately doesn’t make me wrong.

Er, does the OP know that the Vision Pro runs all iOS/iPad apps at launch right?

Guess you missed the memo that YouTube, Netflix, Spotify etc have all blocked Apple from using their iPad apps! 🤣 They are actively going NO.

To be fair though it didn’t make the news on MacRumors, I suspect judging by the delusional responses to my post, it will send many into a tailspin.

What other $3500 dollar device has shipping slip to March at the earliest?
Not quite the same price range, but a lot of car models had year-long preorder times, in recent memory. This is first and foremost an indication of the ratio between manufacturing capacity and demand.

Imagine thinking developers are going to shy away from a cash cow created by a company with a proven track record. Give it some time. Particularly once the cheaper model comes out, it's game over for your argument. The Quest was very lackluster on launch, but they are still pumping away new versions and adding content, even after the FB buy-out debacle.

Personally, I dont use Spotify at all and Netflix is a very rare use now that there are other streaming platforms, and I guarantee I'm not alone. In any case, those are available via the browser. Dollars to doughnuts, they will make apps for AVP eventually. They also weren't Day1 apps on the original iPhone *gasp* but look what they eventually did anyway.
