Stupid question. My two sons and I are upgrading to these 3 iphones. They both chose to buy the white 16 GB. Do either of their phone numbers have to go to one phone or the other? If so, how would you tell which one needs to be activated for which #? I got the 32 GB so I don't have to worry about which phone is mine ;) These are our first iphones and the first ever ordered online rather than just buying in a Sprint store or Best Buy. Thanks.

I believe youll get the phones and it won't matter. Neither of the 16 GBs will necessarily be attached to a number yet. So they just take whichever and when they activate it that's when the phone will be attached to their line.

This is correct I'm sorry I gave you(julietcc) wrong information, but I've checked my email and it has stated that upgrades will need activation. For new customers it's already been done. It was a bit of a mix up on my behalf.

I'm wondering why I'm getting this message:

"Thank you for pre-ordering the 16G iPhone 5. You are one step closer to getting your phone. Keep an eye out for a shipping email with your tracking information. Pre-orders placed through 2 pm CT on 9/14 will arrive on or around 9/21. Orders placed after 2 pm CT on 9/14 will ship in 2 weeks. For questions, visit sprint.com/preorder."

Yeah some people have been getting the first, some people the second.
What time did you order?

Sprint is the worst carrier by far. I had the 4s on sprint and there was hardly any 3G if you weren't by a big city. They barley even have LTE. I switched to Verizon and preordered the 5, best decision I've made in a while.
Sprint has LTE in my city and it works great. I travel overseas as often as I travel to other US cities and Sprint will unlock GSM on my iphone allowing me to use it inexpensively overseas with a prepaid card a few days after I get it.

How long do you have to wait for verizon to unlock the GSM sim slot in your iphone? :D

BTW I probably also pay 1/3 less for my service than you do.:p

Yes, to used to matter when they had the mail in rebates. you could really make a mess swapping them around. Now, in my recent experience, it is fine.

does Sprint unlock iphones? Is this something I should do before I sell my 4s?
If you are referring to selling it for use on sprint, here is what you do:
If your account is in good standing and you are not pulling anything funny (buying and cancelling) you can list it on ebay when you get your tracking number. list it accurately noting any problems, take a nice picture, and have your comments on the phone say "clean ESN."
When you activate your new iphone the old iphone will have a clean ESN and not require any unlocking to use on sprint.
Optionally but strongly recommended are the follwoing:
1: after activating the new phone, call sprint and ask them to run you through a RTN (return to new). A RTN is a deeper reset than a hard reset or other wipe, and will protect your priavacy best.
2. Call sprint today and ask for GSM unlock. This is not needed for a buyer to use the phoen on sprint but adds a bit of value to buyers (especially a pre paid buyers).

maybe because the first message was for 16G iPhone 5s?

Ok. So the Applecare being on backorder isn't going to affect the shipping date?
the "backorder" on apple care is about the law regarding credit card billing, and also because they want to time duration of apple care from delivery so they don't get nuisance suits over a lost few days at the end.
In short they cant actually legally bill you for applecare yet so that is why it says that

Interesting. Someone on another forum noticed something interesting.

If you check on the order number sent to you in Sprint's confirmation email it will tell you that your order is processing and that you will receive your phone.. xyz.

However, if you go into your account, under order history, the order will have a different order number. If you use that order number it pulls up a different status.

Mine says:

Status: The equipment has shipped and/or the activation is complete

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks!

This is true. Just looked and I get the "shipped and/or activation" message. So, which one is right?

I was just on the status page and a chat window popped up. A Rep asked me for my order number and I gave both. He told me to follow the one in the email confirmation. He said both actually belong to the order but the second is the Warehouse fulfillment number and the first is more accurate. I don't really understand that but I'll just go with it.

Second, something interesting. When he pulled the number that I have in my email confirmation, he had a different status than what I see. When I look, I have the standard, "expect delivery on or around 9/21." I know some people have the status that additionally says orders placed before 2pm would be delivered by 9/21.

The one he had was entirely different than the one I've seen. He said it reads:

Thank you for pre-ordering the iPhone 5! Pre-orders placed from 9/14 at 2:01 a.m. CT through 9/18, your order is expected to deliver on or around 9/21.

And that sort of indicates that perhaps Sprint really did have more stock and fewer customers buying than they anticipated.

Why can't Sprint just be straightforward? Oh well. I guess all that matters is that I will have my phone on launch day.

Yeah some people have been getting the first, some people the second.
What time did you order?

I first placed my order on 3 am CT 9/14, but then after 30 min they sent me an email saying to call customer service requiring additional information and my order was on hold (but they did charge me at 3am)
So I woke up at 8:00 am CT when their offices opened and cleared everything and my order was processed.

Either way my order was before 2:00 pm and I even confirmed with them on phone that I should get it on 9/21, I'm just curious why people are getting different status.

@ slrml617: Was is so hard for them to detect that my order was placed before 2pm and give me the straight forward status just like 32GB iPhones

Verizon unlocks iPhone's for new accounts faster than Sprint does so I hope that wasn't a diss to Verizon. Sprint makes accounts be in good standing for at least 90 days whereas Verizon only requires 60 days.

And in many instances Verizon is the same if not cheaper than Sprint, it all depends on your plan.

If that status that was given to me by Sprint Customer Service is any indication.. it won't matter. According to them any order placed prior to 9/18 will arrive by 9/21!

Just had a chat with a Sprint rep and was told the same thing mentioned above. Any order placed before 9/18 will ship on launch day.

----------

One other thing, I asked why it showed my order was on backorder status, and she told me that she did not see anything on backorder. Weird.

That's interesting to hear, seems like very few people are interested in Sprint. TBO I find their plans are really like, even though they don't have 4G in my area and probably wont for a year at least they give me unlimited 3G which is really important to me.

Read the status under the phone, not the AppleCare+.

Also, the "any order placed before 9/18 will ship on launch" is incorrect.

The 16GB in white and black if placed before 2 PM on the 14th will arrive on or around the 21st. After 2 PM can see a wait time of 2 weeks.

mine says

Product ID Description Qty. Order Date Tracking #
IPHONE 5 BLACK 16GB 1 2012-09-14

Status: The equipment has shipped and/or the activation is complete

Do you have a DM14-O-xxxxxx or DM60 order number? If DM14, that status will remain the same, the website is broken or as they say "going through updates.." If DM60, use the order number you were provided when placing the order, which will be an oy-shso-xxxxxxx order number.

I think there are probably a lot of factors regarding the Sprint thing.
One, their site was down for almost 45 minutes at pre-order time. I'm figuring a lot of people probably ended up ordering from Apple directly, which is what I initially did before cancelling and re-ordering with Sprint

Two, Sprint didn't offer any subsidies for people that got the 4s last year and from what I heard, they didn't budge on people who fell short even two weeks of their upgrade date to order early. Thus, more orders might come in later for Sprint.

Finally, I think Sprint was probably thinking a lot of people would jump ship and go over to their network and they may have ordered a lot more than they should have... but with such limited 4G LTE available through them, a lot less people made the jump then they thought would.

I never received an E-Mail confirmation. I called Sprint about it and they said it's weird that I didn't get one. (I've heard of other people not getting them) I even checked my spam folder. They said the order did indeed go through, and is showing up in the system.

This is due to Sprint.com not working properly. Chat in and they will provide you the proper order number. Visit Sprint.com/MyOrder and click to chat. Provide them the DM60 and ask for the correct order number to track your order. The DM60 won't show the correct status as it is an internal order number.

I think the most of us are seeing that. It's been two days now so hopefully we see a change very soon

If this pre-order is like any other pre-order, you may have tracking numbers available the day before it arrives (16GB ordered after 2PM is excluded as they may see a delay in 2 weeks.) If it's not shown in your status, that means there is no further updates for your order. The website will update when there are updates available.

That would be the smart thing to do, they tend to do the opposite.

Right. Forgot about that.
