The reference to the heroine's father having a role in building the Death Star, thereby putting them on opposing sides, doesn't fill me with joy. I think this movie franchise has done enough on father/son redemption (EP VI) / non-redemption (EP VII).

My earlier enthusiasm is reduced, although I wouldn't go so far as to say "I have a bad feeling about this".

He has a role in building it, but I don't think he is doing it willingly. I think they are using her to blackmail/threaten him into helping.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is the one that supplies the documents to the group.....

What is the order to correctly watch in? Lucas say's to watch in numerical order.
Not all are numbered? Help...

At least in terms of the "Sagas", they're all numbered, watch in numeric order:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars

Saga:

Prequel trilogy

I – The Phantom Menace (1999)
II – Attack of the Clones (2002)
III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Original trilogy

IV – A New Hope (1977)
V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)

Sequel trilogy

VII – The Force Awakens (2015)
VIII (2017)
IX (2019)

Actually ... skip the prequels ...

Why skip?

So appears the Rogue One is a spin-off. So it really has no place in the order?

Hahaha, well, the prequels aren't great, granted that's an opinion, though you'll find it's pretty common. There's some incredibly annoying characters, some horribly flat acting, the introduction of a few astoundingly goofy concepts. The upside is it does provide the "how and why" of what you see in the middle trilogy, there's some really dynamic action scenes that show how really kick ass the Jedi are (er, and a few that make them ridiculous).

Rogue One takes place in the Star Wars continuity, the current thinking (anybody correct me if this has been revised), is it takes place between Revenge of the Sith (III) and A New Hope (IV), I mean, no spoilers, but you've seen _who_ is in the preview :)

"how and why", the prequels should not be skipped. I prefer to entertain the complete story, if you will.

Thanks for the info!

If you haven't seen any of them, go for it, that's a pretty enviable position getting to experience them for the first time.

Keep in mind, most of us saw them as they were released, so the prequels (of any film) have the problem of building tension, since we know some of the outcome, i.e., character X can't die, we know they're alive in future movies, or we're sitting around waiting for big event Y to happen.

Enjoy!

Can I suggest an alternative order? I'm told it's called 'machete style'

Episode IV: A New Hope

Episode V: Empire Strikes Back

Episode I: A Phantom Menace

Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Episode III: Return of the Sith

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Episode VII: The Force Awakens

In this way, you start strong, enjoy the best one (Empire), then go back to the beginning to see how it came to be (plot holes aside).

I would advise skipping Phantom Menace, were it not for the brilliant scenes with Darth Maul, Senator Palpatine, Qui Gon Jinn, and of course (ahem) Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maul was a fantastic villain, and a character the writers frequently return to in Clone Wars, and Rebels. He should have had more screen time.

Would "Yes, Master" sound completely wrong in this case? :p

I'm very excited. It looks good. I liked Part VII last year but with Darth Vader in it I think I will like Rogue One even more (and I'm more of a fan of the original Stormtroopers than the First Order Troopers so Rogue One is a win).

I'm excited but may have to wait. I live in a densely populated area with the worst traffic congestion especially during the holidays. It would be a madhouse trying to see any Star Wars movie until it's been out at least a month. But my 12 year old has high hopes of seeing it during her winter break, so we shall see if we can make it happen.

Theaters in my area are all moving to reserved seating so it makes things a lot more manageable.

I bought tix as soon as they were announced, had no trouble getting in to see it at local arthouse cinema on the opening weekend. Definitely excited by this, saw The Force Awakens 3 times at cinema :)

I feel this movie will be much better than the last 7 Star Wars films. I hope there is a director's cut when it is released to video of a more graphic Darth Vader slash and dash scene that was rumored to be cut out.

YES! I heard they went back for reshoots to make it more 'Disney' appealing so I was wondering/hoping they didn't de-brutalize it. One of the greatest moments from ANH is when Mon Montha says "A lot of Bothans died getting these plans" (ad lib a bit maybe).

So there has to be a brutal death or 10 near the end to emphasize the plans for the DS weren't stolen lightly.

I can't wait. I waited up to buy tix. Going opening night with some buddies then 2 days later again with the family.
