I noticed there is a lot of comments about the Bothans in IMDB. It seems everyone wants to get a movie on the second Death Star. The Bothans never retrieved plans for the second death star. It is more about getting knowledge of where the second Death Star is located and that it exist. Also that the Emperor himself will be there and that it is not protected so it will be an easy target. I think "Its a trap!".

I bought tickets to see R1 at a local premium theater here which has assigned seats. That takes most of the stress away from having to get there early and stand in line.

I'm excited about this movie. I don't follow all things star wars but I'll check out a movie every time they put one out. I sat through the latest Bridget Jones with the wife so there could be no argument about us going to see R1.

Kudos, Big Dave. You are a dedicated husband. After sitting through Bridget Jones, you're entitled to a whole Star Wars Trilogy ...

I love that they are casting Donnie Yen from the Ip Man movies!

Yes! Donnie Yen is a true talent ... I believe his character may be even loved as much as the original Yoda from Episodes 4 and 5. Finally a REAL martial artist with decades of experience in star wars combat. If you think Darth Maul was great ... wait until you see Donnie Yen!

Looking forward to his performance and the character action scenes to match or best Empire Strikes Back!
[doublepost=1481671997][/doublepost]RANT:

Spoiler Alert: Another damn DEATH STAR!

COMMON ... can't we have a REAL original story in Star Wars that does NOT involve:
Death Star(s) - every damn one features a Death Star (making, building, completing, operating, new super powerful)!
Shooting wombats ... some ship running through a damn trench to kill ... wait for it ...
a DEATH STAR!

Why not a Death Planet, Death Moon, Death SITH or something named DEATH other than a STAR.

Sorry for the caps ... but you get the reason for my Rant. I've watched every Star Wars movie since Empire and I swear only Empire has filled me with excitement beginning to end. Where Darth Vader was truly evil, menacing, a force to be reckoned with.

Rant over ... I'm breathing.

GUYS! PLEASE. LET'S KEEP THIS THREAD SPOILER FREE FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT 7 DAYS.

The movie has only just come out in the UK, and some of us would like to enjoy the movie, without knowing what happens.

Obi Wan Kenobi,

I'm not sure if you are serious or just kidding? The movie hasn't officially opened in the US and no one here has said anything that would be considered a spoiler.

No spoilers here, although I will say it's the best Star Wars film outside the Original Trilogy. The last 30 minutes are incredible and I can't wait to go and watch it again at a more socialable hour!

I don't think this is, but no Death Stars were harmed in making this film

Did the same thing. Don't have to worry about standing in line to see it. However I won't be seeing it till Sunday. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

But at least I will be seeing it opening weekend! :D

I'm heading to the theater in about an hour to see it. My kids and I are very excited. I've been careful to avoid a lot of the media attention so I can enjoy it without being spoiled by leaked info.

Awesome movie! My hopes where filled. Great acting perfect CG to get a young Lieia and yes Vader has returned to BadAss/Badman status!!

Who is the producer big shout outs. Culminated the best action scenes ideals into a great movie. This producer has not only saved the saga but brought new life into it!

Very cool how he kept us guessing if it was a prequel to them all OR somewhere else and yet not only tied the stories but gave new purpose to Star Wars (a new hope) and Empire Strikes Back titles. Heck even the odd voice of Vader in A New Hope makes sense before getting real Vader voice by James Earl Jones!

I almost loved this as much a empire very close.

I liked it. I agree it is one of the best movies outside of the original trilogy.

Although I think what makes it great and "not epic" is that Disney has painted itself on a corner and can't really make many original changes.

For example, I remember when seeing Empire Strikes Back for the first time, it was very different from A New Hope: most ships were new, places were not only new, but vastly different and the plot was superb.

Coming in to this movie, it was impossible to expect, entirely new ships, warfare machines, Jedi or Sith, or epic characters that would change the fate of the galaxy. It would have been almost illogical to see that and this one and none of it on the prequels. And while the prequels had new designs, what I am talking about is radical changes. For example, the prequels had fighters, walkers, star destroyers and storm troopers, but Empire Strikes Back had shown us walkers for the first time.

With those lowered expectations, this movie is great. I liked it. But Episode VII was underwhelming and I doubt episode VIII would get us any radical improvements.

Well I saw the movie yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well acted, well written, I liked how they portrayed the rebellion, and it being grittier then the original trilogy showed it. I think it made it more realistic imo.

To a degree, I didn't enjoy the ending, I don't want to give it away or add spoilers, but not the very ending, but the with Jyn.

I think I came into this movie with the mindset that Star Wars movies are episodic, and this is a stand alone movie and the way they wrote it, that works wonderfully. I think trying to carry a storyline over 3+ movies can add a lot of baggage, i.e., trying to create too much of a back story for subsequent movies to spring off of. This movie and just enough backstory and kept moving forward.

Its good isn't it. What did you think to that CGI to recreate young Leia and Talkin? Very impressive.

If you ever saw BFG that was some of the best facial animation that I've seen. The work on R1 was very very good, but not quite as good, that faces look a tinge rubbery. Of course I'm splitting hairs here and by and large the cgi artistry that went into making Tarkin believable was immense. I was excited to see him on screen again and to hear him say "you may fire when ready." was great.

Also seeing the other pilots from unused SW footage was a treat as well.

I thought they did a great job with Talkin, but not Leia. I mean it looked ok on Leia, but it was just off. You could tell it was just not her. It was better then Tron:Legacy showing off a young Jeff Bridges, but it wasn't so good that you'd be fooled.

As for Talkin, perhaps because it was his aged face in episode 4, but I thought they did a masterful job with that.

Overall, I loved how they knitted together the ending of Rogue One into the beginning of A New Hope.

I think that was the biggest surprise for me. That episode 3.5 was more like episode 3.99 by the end!
I think they followed the existing story very well. There was no trampling over existing story lines and the such. Will definitely see again.
