Star Wars the Upcoming Episode 9: Redemption for Disney?

Agreed. There are a lot of good books out there and would love to see some of them become movies.
I don’t think thAt the movie itself was so bad nor the guy that played Solo. However, in every frame of the film I thought “There’s no way that that portly, yuppie, trust babe comes within a million miles of looking a young, hand to mouth streetwise Hans Solo.”.
Episodes 1-9 were always in the same universe. Im sure the next trilogy will have new characters.
Yup, not worried about the characters, it is the story these characters are in that bothers me.

I got my tickets but I'm not enthused about this. The new trilogy can be summed up in Captain Phasma - a character with a reputation and seemingly all the power to be amazing, but ultimately just falls to their death for almost no reason so we never actually get a sense for their ability.

i think they need to see this garbage fire though, its too far gone to scrap it.
if it was early on in development i'd prefer them to make 7&8 be a dream sequence for an established or new character.
they could have then had them sum it up in one scene and spend the rest of the movie doing George Lucas' intended treatment for 7 with the rest of 9's runtime which would then allow for this to be a quintology technically while making the gross pandering fanfic of current 7&8 optional.
sure it would be cringey but it would solve the problem and lay the foundation to ignore it without it being a complete waste.
its not like they aren't willing to burn lore to the ground case and point EU/Legends
either way i think it would be smart bet to apologize to the fans and admit the faults, with these while pointing out what they will do better with whatever the next movies are spinoffs or a new mainline series etc.
none of this will happen though, because they are too "woke", to indoctrinated with SJW's and identitarians.
not only that but even if disney could look past its bubble they hate to apologize.
I will see the movie in theaters once because of my sense of past loyalty to the franchise but unless they commit to wanting to put out good content again, StarWars will be relegated to me "sailing the high seas"
if i were them i would re-canonize the old republic and do some movies off that while they figure out an ongoing strategy.
if they did a good job they can work to regain the trust of the fandom.

Hopefully they go for full-on fan service to make up for Rian Johnson's gender studies ram-rod to appease Kathleen Kennedy.
Hopefully the writers will be better than the latest trilogy mess. I liked Ewan in the first trilogy disaster, The real problem is these movies made a lot of money so Disney actually thinks they have been doing a great job. ☹
Yes, "this story group" needs to learn exactly what stories AND relatable characters are. To say nothing of understanding the Star Wars universe. They need to feed these people to the Sarlaac, and hire some of the current SW comic writers (especially Charles Soule who has penned some excellent in universe comic series and is about to embark upon fleshing out Kylo Ren's past (since no one in the movies has done much with that. Not that I care.).
It's not just writing (though really TLJ was a first draft script. That's how desperate LFL was to rush that out), it's the editing and the direction too. I am not going to fault the actors because there are some excellent people cast here.
Tangent: WTF with Abrams & Johnson and John Boyega though? John Boyega is wonderfully talented (ditto Oscar Issac) and their characterizations are freaking awful. Finn had a great premise (defecting storm trooper) and then he became love sick, nervous, awful comedy relief. Why couldn't he be Force sensitive too?
I can say right now I am skipping any SW movies Rian Johnson makes (or any movies really. Wasn't a fan prior to The Last Jedi and I am not one now).
I do not want Rogue One to be the fluke very good Star Wars movie from today's LFL.
Honestly, I couldn't care less about Episode 9 though I'll probably go with a friend because she's a SW fan who isn't nearly as picky as moi. If 9 is as crap as these last two, I'll blissfully forget it as soon as I walk out of the theatre.
Okay, SW telly:
Obi-Wan series: With Ewan on board, I don't care about anything else at this point re: Kenobi series (except I hope it's not based on the novel Kenobi (as Obi-Wan was barely in the book)).
I think Star Wars television is far more interesting right now than the movies.

They made a business decision that Star Wars and marvel are kid movies.
iron man, cap America, Thor, hulk, etc are now the boy equivalent of the Disney princesses.
and Star Wars ep 7-9 made for boys and girls in the new #metoo world....... Rey is all about being a hero for you girls, not for the old dudes that loved Darth Vader in the 1980’s.
Except that George Lucas had already made that decision by the time he made the prequel trilogy.

Frankly this is a terrible excuse, because a story designed for kids does not mean it has to suck.
While agreeing that many kids movies are mindless entertainment, the best stories involved a high degree of originality, innovation, and imagination. And Star Wars a hit because it appealed to adults as well as kids. I’ve seen some brilliant children and young adult stories. Harry Potter jumps out as a prime example, where the author at chapter seven did not run out of ideas and decided to plagiarize everything that came before.
I might have been able to forgive a single bad Star Wars movie, but not at the beginning of a new trilogy designed to revive the franchise. They took a knife and plunged it into the heart of SW fans’ expectations. I guess there were some 5 year olds who were wowed.
One positive thing I can say about the new trilogy, impressive visuals, it’s just too bad they invested in writers who were beret of new ideas, unable to craft something original, or as you said they calculated and we should blame Abrams or the producers or Disney money changers who decided that a crass recycled sequel would be good enough for the new kids watching and a safe bet.

To be honest Lucas ruined the franchise with 1-3. To be mad at 7-9 and not look at what Lucas himself did to the franchise is disingenuous.
Who are you accusing, hopefully not me. 😛 1-3 was a major fail, but apparently bringing in new blood to revive the franchise was not enough either. 😬
