So you are saying I should blame Disney more than Abrams. I guess I could buy that, but the bottom line is instead of forging ahead into new exciting Star Wars territory, with a huge budget (so bad writing is not a good excuse, they could afford top dollar writers), and fresh new ideas, that the best they could come up with was propelling these sequels with recycled plots from previous chapters. They've ruined the franchise for me. 😤 Yeah, I still have 4-6 which I can watch on occasion, but it's gotta make you sad at the opportunity squandered.
Lucas sold Disney his treatments for 7-9 but they ignored it. Either it was that bad or they wanted to take the story in a totally different direction. This is why Lucas was so mad at Disney.

I don’t think there is any correlation with huge budgets and great scripts. Plenty of lousy movies have made with enormous budgets and plenty of great movies have been made with low budgets. Then movie studio execs are notorious for getting involved and wanting changes made. It’s complicated.

But Disney had a billion plus hole in its pocket after buying Lucasfilm and was anxious for a return on its investment. Not the crowd you want to ask for more time.

But we agree 7+8 suck, right? ...with not much hope for 9. 😬

I'm not as down on 7 as some. Sure it reimagined a lot of themes from the first movie, but it managed to set up brand new characters for a new trilogy and to that extent it got the job done. No easy feat considering that 7 was facing a largely skeptical audience after the awful prequel movies. It had its moments.

8 on the other hand was a total disaster. No memorable new characters or scenes, no interesting development of the characters from 7, nothing to set the stage for 8. it was like sitting down at a restaurant and the waiter brings you food that you never ordered. But you have to eat anyway and it tastes lousy. Real bad.

And I know these films are sci-fi and get a lot of leeway for not adhering to the laws of physics and such...but bombs in space? Really?

I don’t know, I think it’ll flop and won’t be very good. It’s a shame I think what they’ve done to the story and I feel sorry for the actors who have given their all for the films. But hey I’m happy to be proven wrong.
My favourites are the original 3 films, Rogue One and the Solo film.

I watched the 5PM Fan Event yesterday (2D). Ticket included a pin, lanyard, and a large popcorn. Not bad for $20.

I really liked the movie, but agree with those who say they crammed a LOT into this movie. That being said, it kept my interest a whole lot better than Endgame did.

Considering how much I disliked TFA & TLJ, I thought RoS was okay; J.J. shoved a whole lot of fan service into it. One moment of that service was particularly great.

At least Rey was properly explained at long last. Nothing against Daisy Ridley, but I still am not a fan of her character.

This trilogy could have done things so much better, especially for Luke, Han, Poe and Finn.

I hope LFL will continue creating material like Rogue One and The Mandalorian. I wish the young cast the best of luck going forward.

I’ve not seen episode 9 yet, and might not ever. Is it safe to describe Disney’s Star Wars 3rd Trilogy as just a calculated money grab devoid of creativity, preying on those susceptible, based on their fond SWs memories of the past? Based on box office, kudos to one of the Kings of Capitalism in the arts. 😔

That's how I felt.... the movie started in the middle of nowhere and it was just moving way too fat

It could have been 30-45 mins longer.... could have been more battles and dialogue

They had more then enough battles, but I think maybe making it another 20 to 30 minutes to slow down the pace and make it feel more measure could have helped.

Like I said, I really did like the move a lot, and its the best one out the last trilogy. I could see myself seeing this again, something that cannot be said with The Last Jedi

I just saw it and enjoyed it immensely. I think it was better than at least two of the prequels and The Last Jedi. I also thought it was perhaps a bit too crammed full of fan-service and somewhat nonsensical in parts, but for some reason it didn't matter and I enjoyed every minute of it.
