i will say this, it is very nice to have a psw for my home system that doubles as a blue-ray player

that itsellf makes it worth it considering how close the systems are otherwise

My PS3 is essentially a blu-ray player.
The Xbox 360 is the gaming unit.
I think I have 2 PS3 games but havent bought one since I bought the unit.

Now I own both, and like my PS3 more. PSN is nothing compared to XBL but I just love the exclusives like MGS4, Motorstorm 2, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance 2, LBP......

I still find the 360 a pretty much useless system. I don't care about online gaming...but can get my occasional online fix with the PS3, just as well as I could on the 360. The PS3 has most of the same games as the 360 with the exception of Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, Fable 2 and Banjo...which are the only games I would want a 360 for. The 360 also lacks Uncharted, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, Ratchet and MGS4 (along with the upcoming next God of War).

The PS3 also has the ability to play Blu-ray movies which is a big positive for me as I'm a huge movie addict. I probably have over 30 Blu-ray films now. This feature, alone, makes the PS3 an overall better value. Now, I do find the 360 controller a bit more comfortable than the PS3 one but not enough to choose it over a PS3.

Truthfully, I don't think it's worth owning both a PS3 and a 360. (unless you get one system for free or have free access one). There are too many cross-platform games. "In the old days," systems had a lot more exclusives. That almost necessitated the purchase of multiple systems. Now, you're better off just picking which system has the few exclusives that you really want. I choose the PS3 because it has most of the exclusive games that I want and also has Blu-ray on top of it...which is not to be underestimated. If the PS3 didn't have Blu-ray, I might not rate it as high...but it still has more of my preferred games.

Hehe, yup. That's the only reason I have a 360. But it is nice having both. The PS3 is great for it's great exclusives, PSN downloads, and blu-ray. But it's nice being able to play with all my friends who own 360s. Of course, you don't seem to care for online.

Thems were my thoughts when the PS3 launched, but now it's better to own both IMO. I'm more into the 360's downloadable titles at the moment and Worms, Castlevania are both awesome and addictive games, whereas LBP is a fun romp and the occasional game of Motorstorm.
I really like how both the libraries of each system has matured. The Xbox is still a one stop shop for multiplayer titles and the PS3 is the more cinematic system (at least with games such as MGS4).

Infact the 360 is catching up to the Wii on the local/splitscreen multiplayer front. At the moment I'm probably putting as much time in on Saints Row 2's co-op and Worms combined as much as I play Brawl (which is saying something considering how addicted I am to that game :p).

I have no regrets with my 360, an ample selection of game, and it performs well. No technical issues or hardware failures... so far (I've had it for about a year).

Really? I think that PSN has way better titles. WipEout, Pixeljunk, etc. Well... they probably have about the same amount of great titles, but the XBLA is full of more junk.

You mean racers with slippy controls and games that immitate PC freeware, naw

Braid, Castle Crashers, Worms, Castlevania, Duke/Doom, Metal Slugs, Hexic, Geometry Wars and Catan all have my hours :) well maybe not Doom (thanks Steam+zDoom and friends)

Oh, it's someone who can't play a racing game that's a challenge :p. jk
Hey, I have both systems. And what freeware PC game does Pixeljunk Eden copy :p. And Catan is for PS3 too. If you really want a list of sweet PSN games. Here ya go.

-Burnout Paradise
-Calling All Cars
-Crash Commando
-Echochrome
-Fat Princess
-The Last Guy
-The Punisher
-Ratchet and Clank QfB
-Super Stardust HD
-Warhawk
-WipEout HD

But anyway, lots of the XBL games are remakes. I just feel like the PSN games are more innovative. And the no d/l size cap helps. Anyway, not trying to start anything, just saying :p.

^ In fairness I don't think it's fair to include FULL PRICE games into the comparison between LIVE & PSN marketplaces.

So you should take out the likes of Burnout Paradise, Wipeout HD, Warhawk, SOCOM and Siren from direct comparisons.

These are full priced games for the most part and retail far higher price than the 360's 800/1200 points.

Yea I was only counting the cheap downloads, not full games or Classic/PS1 games.

But seriously as someone who was brought up on playing F-Zero and tight controlling speed games - I can't get into Wipeout at all. Especially not considering that the PS3 version just uses the PSPs tracks, that'd be like playing Mario Kart Wii, added the 2 driver system and only being able to play on the Retro cups :p

Hang around Tigsource.com or Indiegames.com, Pixeljunk games are very indie based. They share all the same quirks (that PJ game where you throw yourself around is very reminiscent of a game by Edmund McMillen, and another by Adam Saltsman (if I got his name right)), style and gameplay formulas.
PSN has some great games but XBLA has had a whole year extra to mature. A year after the XBLA has stopped being updated the PSN will likely be in a similar position. Just wish Sony would release more PS1 games in Europe (or in general, don't know how many PS1 games are in other regions). The only PSN games that stand out for me there are Echochrome, Stardust (amiga remake) and Warhawk.

When I do play console games (I've been mostly playing PC games under Boot Camp recently) I typically play on my Xbox 360 - the PS3 is largely a Blu-ray player. Not that there aren't any games I like, but the ones I do (usually multiplatform) I buy for the Xbox because of the long-established community and the people I play with on there. I really only buy exclusives for the PS3, and I don't do that often.

Having both, I still prefer the 360 because of Xbox live and the community and content therein. This preference is by a narrow margin though. I have very much enjoyed the PS3 and it's Blue Ray player.

Those games are still offered through the service though and should be mentioned when referring to what PSN has to offer just as Xbox originals can be referred to as well.

LIVE has a bigger library of small games than PSN but most of the games are rubbish on XBLA. Most of PSN titles try to differ from the norm...some being incredibly boring(flOw,Super rub a dub) and some being top(Pixel Junk series EX PJ racers)

Bless

Yup, that's the point I've been trying to make.
Live: A ton of games, most junk.
PSN: Not as many, most great.
Sony seems to have a quality check on what games they sell on their store. :p

Heh, this is like with the Wii. People slate it because there are so many bad games, implying that it somehow affects the good games. I don't care if there are a million games on XBLA or PSN, I only care about the handful I want to play.
As a game player I don't care what the good to bad ratio is, just how many good there are. :p

But honestly unless you want to "collect them all", why even let bad games come into it?

Haha, don't even get me started on my Wii.... That's a different topic. I've just always been the most impressed by PSN games. They always just seem more interesting. Of course... that might have something to do with the Japanese influence.

Yeah you do have to credit PSN's marketplace games.

I would have also liked to have given Credit to the 'FREE THEMES' please take note Microsoft..... However it seems Sony have been listening to M$ and now we have 'PREMIUM' THEMES... How long before FREE is all but a distant memory....

Wii Store i simply have no time for. Too expensive for a load of old roms I can get elsewhere 'wink wink' for free :p

The only thing worth getting on the Wii store is World of Goo!

Updated Cave Story (soon), World of Goo, FF Crystal Chronicles, Lost Winds (very good game that), Megaman 9, Defend your Castle, Dr Mario DX, Tetris Party, Strongbad (supposed to be good but not my cup of tea) and the good VC games :)
Nintendo just need to release an N64 style controller for the Wii. It's difficult to play Ocarina of Time and Lylat Wars with a CC or GC controller.

Better late than never edit: They're making a Lost Winds 2.
