Larger screen equals worse battery life?
In that case: Keep it, thanks.

Actually it would probably be the opposite. Large screen equals more area for a bigger battery. At the very least it would be the same battery life but quite possibly could make the battery life even better.

LTE is going to be the real battery life killer in the new iPhone which is why I believe they will have to put in a large screen, they will need as much battery space as they can get.

I am curious how the battery life is on the supposed test iPhone 4s with the a5x. Seems like it could be a lot of phone on a pretty small battery especially if it has LTE on it already.

As for the mock ups, those are definitely not Jony Ive designed so its hard to get a good feel for would the new phone could be. But I certainly expect the next redesign to be a pretty major one.

So will they increase the resolution or decrease it? Decreasing it would still have a resolution better than the iPad 3, but then it would be like a downgrade.

If they increased even higher...wouldn't that make the iPhone and iPad retina resolution larger?

although i'd like a bigger screen on the iphone, I don't think it's gonna happen. obviously they will NEVER decrease the ppi, to do that they must increase resolution, and having another res size will be annoying for developers.

or maybe an increase of disp/res for iphone 5 doing the same with ipod touch and ditching 960x640 iphone 4-ipod4g res making a completely new 1280x1024?

We'll see...

Unless the 5 has some really groundbreaking (or really really awesome) new features then I'd probably skip it.

Been squeaking by with my 3GS for a few years now and I'm thinking that I'd be pretty happy with the 4S... especially at a discounted price.

I'd be perfectly content with the EXACT same form factor but Put that new-fangled processor in and make it 4g LTE. I love my 4s and the only things I think it needs are as stated....

Yes really.

Well let's see. The iPhone 4 was named such because it was the fourth generation. The 5th generation is the 4S. I highly doubt that Apple would name the 6th generation the iPhone 5. I do agree that it will just be "The New iPhone".

So out of four upgraded generations, there is one where the generation number and model name match? Sure sounds like a solid rule to me.

You keep repeating that the 4S is the 5th generation. Where does the 4 come from in 4S? What does it mean?
Is your special rule only applied when the suffix is purely numerical?

I take it that you would be completely satisfied with "iPhone 6".
Would it be okay if Apple called it "iPhone 5S"? Or would that be reserved for the 7th version?

The next iPhone will be called: iPhone (6th generation)

Incorrect.
miPhone.

This will help people identify legacy iPhones with the new redesigned miPhone, Apple's next generation phone.

Anything iPhoneX will be easiliy identifiable as old and will make people want to upgrade.

As was explained at the new iPad launch, an iPad is held further away, so doesn't need such a high resolution to be defined as Retina. At the iPhone 4 launch they said around 300 ppi for a phone to be Retina.

You would hold a 4.3" screen further away than a 3.5" screen as well. Not as far as a 9.7" screen obviously, but they could make some case for the fact that it's still retina based on the extra distance and the cushion in ppi they had anyway with the 3.5" screen.

Im happy with the size of the screen now, why do our tablets need to be phone and our phones need to be tablets!?

Ugh.......I hate when people say this. No, a 4" or even 4.3" phone is not even close to a tablet. The differentiator is that a 4.3" phone can still fit into your pocket and any size tablet doesn't even come close. Let's stop saying this.

A bigger screen at the iPhone's aspect ratio will make the phone wider, and not as tall as typical Android phones, so one hand use might be compromised for some. But we will see. I still think its possible for Apple to make another stunning phone design with a 3.5 inch screen, and still be as usable as most big a**ed Androids. Thinner in depth is probably going to given, even if only a gnat's hair thinner than 4/4S. And construction? Personally I liked the rumours recently of a possibly ALL GLASS iPhone. And like a poster above, I love the flat sides of the current design, especially for watching videos at my work desk ;-). But I can only imagine the sixth gen iPhone as being a stunner whatever size or shape it turns out to be. Do Apple make anything that's actually an ugly fail?

Those pics are absolutely beautiful!

BTW, his is how HTC One X and many other phones look like. There is nothing special about this look and I do no think there must be. It's just if iPhone 5 looks the same as iPhone 4 you can always go with Android phone of the look you like (there plenty to choose from).

My iPhone 4S will easily stand on any of it's sides, and I stand it up all the time. It also stays put better when it's lying down.

Anyone else think "WTF?":confused::confused:

You "stand" you're phone up? That's seriously asking for it. What purpose do you have for "standing" you're phone up? I could understand propping it up on its side to watch a movie or something, but why stand it up? They make cases if you want to use it like that, otherwise I doubt anyone would recommend you stand it up on its own.

Make it LTE (should be obvious) and add U.S Cellular for a carrier. Then I'll buy. If not Verizon iPhone would be OK. I'm midway between Des Moines and Iowa City, IA Anyone know which carrier is better out of the 3 right now?
ATT, Verizon or Sprint?

I remember when the iPhone 4 leaked and people got a look at the design. At first people hated the design, then they saw professionally taken pictures at the introduction and they loved it.

I'm still fairly confident that Apple releases contradicting rumors and false leads prior to release so that competitors can't rush something similar to market.

Samsung will have to wait a few months to release their version of a near iPhone 5 instead of a few weeks.

Quite understandable. (I was actually wondering when someone was going to mention that.)

Usually I do stand it up on it's side, for example if I'm watching something and there isn't anything to lean it on. I like how the 4S does this no problem. I will occasionally stand it up vertically and just let it sit. And surprisingly it does, very well actually. It just sits up at attention like a... well like a digital assistant I guess. It can do this so easily largely due to the cheap but awesome $5 bumper I bought from Amazon. It makes all 4 sides just a little thicker. I don't think it would stand up vertically nearly as well without it.

As far as "asking for it" I see your point, but falling over hasn't been an issue. I've been sitting in restaurants and whatnot and I've just stood it up and let it sit on the table. It just sits there and if I get a call or a text I just glance up. (Whether I do this of course depends on the company I'm with.) Even with vibrate it's never been an issue. People always ask me, "How do you get your iPhone to stand up." It's not rocket science though, I just stand it up. And it takes a serious shake or push to make it fall. If it does fall, nothing happens. The bumper gives the edge a slight bump going around the edge of the front and back. When I lie the phone down either face up or down, the rubber touches the surface instead of the glass.

Out of curiosity, I just stood my phone up, while on vibrate, and had a friend call me. It stayed up. :)

Sprint is terrible... Verizon and ATT are both good. Given the chouse, I'd go with ATT for the faster data (today). If the next phone gets LTE, I might say go with Verizon. They are already in DSM and sure to keep spreading.

What do you mean? The iPhone doesn't require a case! I have used iPhones continuously since the original release in 2007 and have NEVER had a case. Also never had any damage. I don't know why so many people insist on covering a beautiful, elegant design with an ugly case. The aluminum and glass surfaces are a pure joy to touch. With a case, the phone may as well be made out of burlap and plastic - you can't feel it anyway.

Also, how many people clamoring for a "thinner" iPhone currently use an iPhone with a case? That seems non-intuitive. If you want a thinner iPhone, just take off the stupid case!

Unacceptable

4 inches: unacceptable. I wouldn't care how it was redesigned!! That amounts to nothing more than yet ANOTHER incremental upgrade. I'm sick of this shish!!! And I am so tired of hitting a "submit" button by accident before I'm done composing a comment when I was intending to press or do something else all because of this microscopic screen!!!!

I challenge any of you fanboys to walk into a Best Buy or AT&T store where they have working phone demos and take a gander at what Samsung has done with the Galaxy Note and that stunning 5.3" display.

Can you imagine a 5.3" iPhone...with a "retina display?" Let's all just stop and seriously think about that for a minute.
