I used the marware CEO hybrid case for my original iPad and my iPad 2, and really enjoyed it, except when I used the iPad in stand mode, it was frustratingly easy to get the iPad fall out of the stand position. This case looks great, but I have not yet seen anybody comment on how easy it is when using the iPad in stand mode to accidentally push it out of the stand position.

When I'm playing games or using iPhoto to edit pictures, will I end up pushing the stand down just by tapping on the screen, or does the rubber hold adequately?

Also, how well does it stand up when not on a flat surface? i.e. when I am laying in bed and having it on my lap, or laying on the couch?

Obviously this will be a super subjective answer but I'll do my best to share my experience.

The canvas case stands your iPad pretty firmly in an angle similar to when you use the smart cover to stand up your iPad and it also works fairly decently all the way "down" in a typing angle position – also similar to the typing angle position of the smart cover (although not quite as low to the stable surface since there is some case thickness sitting below the iPad).

In those two positions – where the canvas case stands itself up confidently – it works very well on a flat you've in surface like a table and when you've in the next to you on a bed, couch, etc.

That's the good news.

The less good news is that there is, in my experience, definitely a "not so sweet spot". Or, perhaps more accurately, a small "not so sweet range" of angle positions where I did find the case didn't hold the iPad up very well. Pretty much anywhere between the very upright smart cover position and the very low typing position I found my iPad to sometimes manage to stay standing but it would frequently drop down to its stopper un-supported typing position on its own or with a little jostle from moving in bed, or taps to the screen.

To be clear there is somewhat of a range of upright positions the case supports but they are all "a little bit more or a little bit less" the same angle the smart cover held my iPad to that.

Overall, while I really do like this case, I would describe it's "supported angles" as being fairly comparable to the Apple smart cover case. A "high" position (or slight range of positions) and a low "typing position" – similar to the smart covers typing position. In my experience there isn't a very wide range of specifically supported "medium" positions – in other words an angle between the high position and typing position. No doubt you can get lucky and find a position that sort of kind of works but it's definitely subject to randomly sliding on its own or falling down from a few taps to the screen. With the canvas case the medium positions are definitely not not held as firmly in place as I suspect other cases do – i.e. those cases with specific positions imprinted in the case. I do like the styling of the in side flap and like that it doesn't have big indentations or sets of plastic bumpers that limit your options. I would say that there is a downside and that being that the medium angled positions with the new canvas case are really not practical on a consistent basis.

On the off chance that the canvas's ability to maintain these medium angled positions varies based on color I have the black new iPad canvas case.

Are there any other canvas owners that can contribute your experiences? I have no idea if my case performs better or worse or the same as everyone else's. I am definitely loving it – but in writing this reply right now I do realize I'm a little disappointed with the limited range of supported stand positions. I thought the benefit of the Canvas' rubber stoppers and rippled inside cover was that it would provide a sturdy wide range of standing positions when in reality the range isn't that much better than my regular smart cover.

One major benefit and difference from the smart cover worth pointing out is that the canvas is far, far more stable at an upright position. When I use my smart cover I would constantly be worried that my iPad would fall forward from the smart cover as the upright stand position was so upright. The canvas does allow for not only as slightly less upright position but using the whole top flap as a base gives the iPad much more stability – on a desk, coffee table, bed or couch.

Definitely curious to hear other user's thoughts!

i echo all of the above... I have the black one. The screen protector is OK.. but nothing great (would prefer anti-glare to be honest) and the stand really only works well in a few positions. The groove design doesn't really work - straight lines might have been better.

Plus, it still smells... :)

on the positive, its still a great case, great protection etc. Looks great.

I finally got my case over a week after ordering and watching people in this thread receive theirs days after ordering. I can say it was definitely worth the wait though. I love how slim the case feels in my hands, and the aesthetic is very professional looking.I guess I got lucky because the sleep/wake function works for me too.

Does anyone have any experience with the brown cover switcheasy canvas case for the new iPad?

I saw the pictures earlier from someone who has it and they described it as a cappuccino or coffee milk color but I was wondering if anyone else had experience with it? I have the black and I am thinking about getting brown as a gift for someone who I think would like that color but I can't tell if it is a more "natural canvas" looking brown that maybe has a linen look and feel to it? Or if the brown comes across as a little obviously "man-made". With the black it's so dark you kind of can't form an opinion about how natural or synthetic it is and I feel as though with the charcoal and red they are more obviously synthetic looking color so the look and feel of the material is less of an issue to me..

I believe the brown color for the new ipad Canvas case is the same as the brown color in the old iPad 2 canvas case so maybe if anyone also has experience with the old iPad 2 canvas case they can share their thoughts on the color..

Great news, I placed my order for the black canvas case yesterday around this time, and today I got a shipment notification. So the black backorders are ~1 day

I like the new Canvas. I don't do screen protection, so it hasn't left the package. I'd rather they charge $5-$10 less and not include them.

I am happy with all the positions, including the typing one. I think the case feels nice in the hands and offers great protection.

Mine is the black one. All sleep-awake functions work without a hitch.

The corners look beefier than the iPad 2 version. I don't anticipate cracking issues. I'm sure Switcheasy learned from that design problem.

I was a fan of the latch on the iPad 2 version. The case seems more securely closed than the iPad 3 version. That being said, the magnets hold the case closed enough for my needs.

received my black canvas today, sleep/wake works, i love it. im glad i cancelled my incipio lexington order. this doesnt add much bulk and im confident i have sufficient drop protection.

This is good to hear. I am very excited for the arrival of my case

Absolutely love mine - Likely will see more colors in the future as well. Hopefully the plastic shell aspect of this version holds up better than the iPad 2 version, which was known for cracking. Luckily SE has awesome customer support.

SwitchEasy says it doesn't fit but as you can see it does even with an iCarbon Skin underneath.

SwitchEasy Nude UltraClear Case.

Just got both my orders today. Both have working smart on/off. I bought red and black. This case is probably the best one available on the market. Only imperfection IMO is the lack of a latch to keep it closed

is your magnet weak?

No it's not weak. I can hold it upside down and it will stay closed. But if I throw it in a bag and the cover shifts a bit I can hear the iPad turning on/off. It's not as secure as a latch. Still a great case though.

I'm probably going to check out the speck mag folio when it's available.

I'm an owner of a black switcheasy canvas case and I didn't have any issues with smell. It did have a bit of a "new-product" smell that's typical of something made out of synthetic material but it went away in just a few days. It was noticeable at the beginning but after a few days it was definitely gone.

Got my canvas case today. The only issues I have with it is that when I prop it in in cinema mode, the feet will slide down when it's in the middle positions.

I just got my red canvas case, great case but yes the brand new car smell
Is overpowering! I had to open my window, I guess it won't be spending the night near me until it airs out.

Yeah – I was a little displayed with this too. I think it's just a limitation of how well those little feet grab the inside front cover. I end up with only a very parentheses almost unusable he so) upright position, most of the upright position, and the low position.

I never had the original iPad to canvas cover – but I suspect I would have appreciated more specific, firm standing positions. I do like the feel and design and look of the inside front cover though so I am very happy with this case.

after a few days, both the smell and slight 'stickyness' have now gone from mine. I love it. Best case there is IMO.

This is what I do .. when making the angle adjustment, try holding case by the upper right and upper left corners of the case than the lower sides which I find the feet hold better in middle position. It is not solving the problem of entirely but it is now only a smaller range of positions which the stand cannot hold still.

My Canvas arrived today. Sadly, the auto on-off doesn't work. Got the grey one.

My replacement arrived today and the auto on-off works. It's charcoal colour. SwitchEasy was very quick in shipping the replacement. So don't worry, just let them know. They only require you a video proof of the defects. That's it.

Yeah spoke to them allready, and he said he was gonna see what he could do. Hope for a fast solution :) Love the case though, really nice.
