I used the marware CEO hybrid case for my original iPad and my iPad 2, and really enjoyed it, except when I used the iPad in stand mode, it was frustratingly easy to get the iPad fall out of the stand position. This case looks great, but I have not yet seen anybody comment on how easy it is when using the iPad in stand mode to accidentally push it out of the stand position.
When I'm playing games or using iPhoto to edit pictures, will I end up pushing the stand down just by tapping on the screen, or does the rubber hold adequately?
Also, how well does it stand up when not on a flat surface? i.e. when I am laying in bed and having it on my lap, or laying on the couch?
Obviously this will be a super subjective answer but I'll do my best to share my experience.
The canvas case stands your iPad pretty firmly in an angle similar to when you use the smart cover to stand up your iPad and it also works fairly decently all the way "down" in a typing angle position – also similar to the typing angle position of the smart cover (although not quite as low to the stable surface since there is some case thickness sitting below the iPad).
In those two positions – where the canvas case stands itself up confidently – it works very well on a flat you've in surface like a table and when you've in the next to you on a bed, couch, etc.
That's the good news.
The less good news is that there is, in my experience, definitely a "not so sweet spot". Or, perhaps more accurately, a small "not so sweet range" of angle positions where I did find the case didn't hold the iPad up very well. Pretty much anywhere between the very upright smart cover position and the very low typing position I found my iPad to sometimes manage to stay standing but it would frequently drop down to its stopper un-supported typing position on its own or with a little jostle from moving in bed, or taps to the screen.
To be clear there is somewhat of a range of upright positions the case supports but they are all "a little bit more or a little bit less" the same angle the smart cover held my iPad to that.
Overall, while I really do like this case, I would describe it's "supported angles" as being fairly comparable to the Apple smart cover case. A "high" position (or slight range of positions) and a low "typing position" – similar to the smart covers typing position. In my experience there isn't a very wide range of specifically supported "medium" positions – in other words an angle between the high position and typing position. No doubt you can get lucky and find a position that sort of kind of works but it's definitely subject to randomly sliding on its own or falling down from a few taps to the screen. With the canvas case the medium positions are definitely not not held as firmly in place as I suspect other cases do – i.e. those cases with specific positions imprinted in the case. I do like the styling of the in side flap and like that it doesn't have big indentations or sets of plastic bumpers that limit your options. I would say that there is a downside and that being that the medium angled positions with the new canvas case are really not practical on a consistent basis.
On the off chance that the canvas's ability to maintain these medium angled positions varies based on color I have the black new iPad canvas case.
Are there any other canvas owners that can contribute your experiences? I have no idea if my case performs better or worse or the same as everyone else's. I am definitely loving it – but in writing this reply right now I do realize I'm a little disappointed with the limited range of supported stand positions. I thought the benefit of the Canvas' rubber stoppers and rippled inside cover was that it would provide a sturdy wide range of standing positions when in reality the range isn't that much better than my regular smart cover.
One major benefit and difference from the smart cover worth pointing out is that the canvas is far, far more stable at an upright position. When I use my smart cover I would constantly be worried that my iPad would fall forward from the smart cover as the upright stand position was so upright. The canvas does allow for not only as slightly less upright position but using the whole top flap as a base gives the iPad much more stability – on a desk, coffee table, bed or couch.
Definitely curious to hear other user's thoughts!
