1. AT&T forcing customers to pay with debit card or checking account otherwise the "discount" is reduced by $5 per line.
2. T-Mobile doing this shady crap to their customers.
Is Verizon any better?
T-Mobile already did item number 1 a couple months ago. This is the 2nd Sh!tty thing they done in a 3 month period.

It's definitely time to look at other carriers. T-Mobile is in "Fxck The Customer" mode right now.

If this goes bad for anyone, remember there is PLENTY of fish in the cellular service sea.

And jumping from one of the "big 3" to another is basically swapping one devil for another. Shop around. "Plenty" does not mean only 3 choices.
Care to list some viable options?

It's not as bad as people's reaction seems to indicate:
  1. You can stay on your current plan if you want
  2. The new plan is a better plan. I compared the new plan to my current plan. I'd pay $30 for two lines bu I would get unlimited hot-spot and 2 year deice upgrade eligibility.
Now, the new plan benefits are not worth it for me so I'll probably stay with the current plan.
The best part is "2 year device upgrade" meanwhile you could be on the cheapest plan ever and get a phone through them and its 2 years to upgrade so nothing changed lol

Go5G's 3 lines is $130/month on the website because it includes "Get a 3rd line FREE for new customers" promo. Whether T-Mobile extend the promo with this migration remains to be seen. If they don't, you are looking at $155 + $5 for smartwatch.

Go5G offers only 2 benefits over Magenta: (1) 15GB vs. 5GB Hotspot and (2) 10GB vs 5GB in Canada and Mexico. It is entirely possible that in the future, Magenta will offer weaker phone promos, but I don't think these benefits are worth paying $30/month more.
Go5G also caps your streaming quality at 720p after years of 4k streaming. It’s in the fine print

Depends, Google Fi is the same priority as postpaid T-mobile.
I test drove Google Fi and honestly, it was VERY good. The only downfall, which doesn't matter to me, is your voicemail has to go through the Fi app with the iPhone. Other than that, I had 0 issues when I tried it.

They already do. You only get $350 if you trade in an iPhone 13 Pro Max on Magenta whereas you get $850 on Go5G.

Can you use your Apple Watch with Google Fi?

Looks like I ported away at the right time. Pretty scummy move. I havent looked back.

I can pay for two (or more) MVNOs for what they are charging. And with e-sim, so many options out there.

Bye T-Mobile!

Just curious... anyone here EVER been contacted by a vendor to be told, "We have something cheaper with more features so we're switching you to that automatically?"

It seems to me that the benefits of this "courtesy move" are more for T-Mobile than the customer. Don't get me wrong: if that's how they want to treat their customers, it's entirely up to them. Just don't spin it as if they're just looking out for me.

Called up T-Mobile support (1-800-937-8997). Stated I am currently on the Magenta 55+ plan, I want to stay on that plan, I do not to change plans, I do not want to change plans at the end of October, I don’t want to ever change plans. The T-Mobile representative (Named Isa employee #2279349) stated my plan was not changing they were only changing plans for customers who had the same plan for 20+ years. She was very insistent on knowing how I heard about this change and kept repeating there was no plans to change my plan.

I doubt her honesty and sincerity but that is what happen when called T-Mobile support at 4:06 pm Pacific Time on October 11th

Any actual analysis or specific recommendations?

In the US, the other big 2 aren’t exactly great options and the rest are MVNOs right?

I’m looking for a family plan for 7 phones and several watches while keeping costs low and having solid coverage.

Need to do your own analysis. Maybe there’s some kind of optimal cell phone plan finder tool online somewhere? If it was me, I’d thoroughly review the MVNO options instead of the “big 3” who are notorious for this kind of thing.

Thinking we might have some misunderstanding.
On October 2, 2023. AT&T made a change that the $10/line auto pay that reduced to $5/line if using a credit card.
But if you use a debit card you still get the $10. I prefer to use a credit card when dealing with any phone vendor.

T-Mobile will be forcing customers on older smartphone plans to move to newer, more expensive plans, according to information that has been shared on Reddit. The migration will be automatic, but customers can contact support to ask to opt out of the migration.

Those who had the prior Magenta and One plans will be upgraded to Go5G, while those on the Magenta 55+ plan will be upgraded to Go5G+. Simple Choice and Select Choice users will be moved to Magenta or Essentials Select.

With these migrations to new plans, customers will see price increases of $5 to $10 per line depending on current plan. Those on the Simple/Select Choice plans, for example, will see a $10 per line price increase.

Customers who miss the notification about the upcoming plan changes can still ask to revert back for a short period, though customer service will attempt to push customers to new plans with one-time credits.

As noted by The Mobile Report, customer support representatives will attempt to convince users about the benefits of the new plan. "We are not raising the price of any of your plans; we are moving you to a newer plan with more benefits at a different cost," T-Mobile instructs employees to say.

Customers will begin receiving notifications about the upcoming plan changes on October 17, both through text messages and emails. Migration timing will vary based on bill cycle.

Hey, I reported this yesterday. Don’t I get any credit? 😜

Idk why in this day and age anyone would stay with T-mobile or any of the other big carriers. All their “freebies” and “extras” are gimmicky.

The only reason to stay with any of the big carriers is if you have a multi phone line account with them and are getting a reasonable enough discount. Reasonable should be paying no more than $40 per line with taxes and fees included in that price.

Also I suppose the big carriers may suit you if you absolutely need truly unlimited data on your phone and 30GB+ of Hotspot data. People who work outdoors or at remote sites often may need this. Also perhaps if you live in a trailer or wish to forgo home internet and tether your life via hotspot.

Most people have WiFi at home and at work and don’t use nearly as much data that they think they do. I am happy with my current setup and should have dumped big wireless much sooner. I pay only $40 a month taxes and fees included to have an iPhone, ipad, and Apple Watch.

If you want almost free service and don’t use a lot of Data try BoostMobile that is what I am using for the iPad. You can pick up a 3 month promo plan with 5GB of data each month for only $15!! So basically only $5 a month for your first 3 months. After that it goes to $15 a month. But you can get bill credits with the boost mobile app just by logging in to check data usage and watch a minute long commercial. A couple of minutes a day gives enough bill credits to make the plan free. Going on 9 months now and have only paid $15. For my iPhone and watch I am on a unlimited plan from Spectrum.
