Upgraded from 12.0.1, it introduced new issues of trackpad gestures such as four fingers swiping and three finger look up while fixed tap-to-click. Not really worth the upgrade..

Update:
It did NOT fix tap-to-click issue completely. When I press cmd and click a link, it still require two or three taps to open it.

I can confirm what @Onionring said, this does not fix tap-to-click when holding the Command key (e.g. when opening links in new tabs, selecting multiple files in Finder, etc.).

It still takes a few clicks for it to open. It may be a delay before the click actually works. e.g. If you hold the Command key for a second before tapping, it seems to work.

I was hoping that this beta fixed this issue but hopefully they get this fixed in the next release - it's killing my muscle memory.

Sadly the latest build didn't solve the issue for my MacBook pro 14.
The tap won't register and i can still reproduce this 100% of the time.
(hold cmd, do not move cursor, tap within 2 seconds)
so it seems like what's happened is that the 'tap to click', by itself, has improved. Before, it would miss the taps themselves sometimes but now that part is reliable. However, the issue is STILL there when doing a `cmd + tap` to open links in the background etc. Easiest way to test is:

1. Go to https://www.rapidtables.com/tools/click-counter.html and just tap and count your clicks. It works reliably.

2. BUT, now go to YouTube, and start `cmd + tap` on video thumbnails to open them in a background tab. It takes 3 taps to register. If you keep pressing the `cmd` button it will start working, but as soon as you take it off and press it again, the counter resets, and now you need 3 taps again.

NOTE: I'm on the new 14" M1 Pro laptop. Seems like older devices that were glitching have seen the `cmd + tap` behavior get better with beta 4, but 14" devices are still stuck with the bug. F.

For those of you reporting that Beta 4 doesn’t fix this, are any of you using the 16 inch? Most of the replies have referred to the 14. It shouldn’t make a difference, but who knows?
I am using 16 m1 max. Sadly not fixed for me

Since the update tap-to-click works again on my 16" M1 Max .
I could also not find any problem with cmd + tap on Youtube or in the Finder.
Interesting that the devices are so differently affected by the problem ?

Tap to click has been working flawlessly on my 2017 MBP no touchbar since I installed public beta 4 :)

I really hope that Apple stops ******** the bed with basic input stuff, it's getting old.

Also confirming that yesterdays beta fixes tap to click.
Now I need to reverse my bad habit that I developed over the past 3-4 weeks: clicking hard ??

Updated to Beta 4, on M1 13inch mbp, my problems (which are tap to click and pinch to zoom) are now fixed and working flawlessly. I never thought I would forget how good the trackpad is. It’s incredible it made that 'much' of a difference

I notice that too. I'll be nice to have that that dependability back! Hopefully the next public release will include fixes for this.

Tap-to-click (especially when holding a Command of Shift key) is NOT fixed for my 14” M1 Pro in 12.1 Beta 4 :/

Ya, after a few days of use, while tap to click on its own is working great, I'm still having the odd problem here or there with trackpad input. e.g. with a three finger drag, the cursor sometimes jumps just like tap to click used to.

Update: And although tap to click is much more reliable - it definitely does still fail to register sometimes (it just happened with what was 100% a good tap that should have registered)

Taps seem ok (though, I'm keeping a watchful eye out for wayward ones). But, three-finger drag does hop several inches away at random times, and in random directions. I believe I've seen it with normal cursor drags (simple pointing), but the main one is the three-finger drag. I was attempting to use a brush in Affinity Photo, and well, you can imagine – it looked like I was trying to paint while 4-wheeling it.

They just released 12.1 RC and they mentioned they fixed this tap to click issue. Can anyone who upgraded to the 12.1 RC confirm they also fixed the three fingers swipe? If they did, it might be time to go back to Monterey after downgrading to bigsur

Just updated. I can confirm that:

1. Tap to click by itself is working, same as beta 4.
2. 3/4 finger swipe to switch desktop is working. Haven't seen the bug behavior in the first 5 mins at all so thinking it's fixed.
3. HOWEVER, `cmd + tap` is NOT fixed on the 14" MBP. Having to tap 3 times, just as before, to get it to work.

This modifier key + tap issue hasn't been resolved on the 14" for well over a month now, and it's become really frustrating. I can't use tap to click if it isn't going to be reliable on one of my most frequent use-cases such as opening links in the background (something most of us hundreds of times/day)

If you are facing the same problem on your 14" MBP, please report it via the Feedback Assistant so they'll pay attention to it. We all paid upwards of $2K for this device, we should not have to put up with this for months.

Does that mean both 4 and 3 finger gestures work well? I use 3-finger dragging for virtually all my dragging; don't use 4-finger nearly as much.
So far, yes.

I've not had the cursor jump randomly around which is how Apple somehow managed to screw it up over the last few betas.
