Most teens' parents I know get a new iPhone every year or two and hand down their not so old ones to the kids.
Yup, another version of a hand-me-down. Know of stories where the mom and dad's old phones go to the eldest siblings where the young children end up with third or even forth hand phones.

I find it funny that 1% still plan to buy a blackberry and that 3% will downgrade to a non-smartphone.

Blackberry is still around as they are mostly fulfilling long term contracts. As for the 3% going to non-smart phones, can easily see parents getting sick of the trouble their kids made with their smartphone so they took them away and stuck them with a feature phone to keep the chaos to a minimum.

You are right. I do remember when my nephew got into trouble and got relegated to an old flip-phone for a while. Good call!:)

Teens are all over the iPhone. I can thumb pretty fast, but pale in comparison to my kids. My parents on the other hand - it pains us to watch them on their iPhones. Apple should allow - or create - another super simplified OS with a huge keypad and keyboard. :)

Well the dust has settled and kids are not stupid. The only Android phones anyone should consider and anyone in the tech media should recommend is a high-end Samsung device. And really, any honest gadget blog would be remiss not point customers to the SE or the iPhone rather than any Android device. Owning an iPhone you are assured a quality device and more importantly, one that will be backed up with updates and features by Apple, unlike Android where you are instantly abandoned once they get your sale.

As a former Android user who didn't know any better, once you own an iPhone you feel stupid for ever owning anything else. And it's just wrong and sad how gadget sites don't do a better service to their readers in steering them away from the Android mess and their malware. Or do a better job at informing their readers that once you buy a cheap Android device, support is basically nil after suckering you into buying one. The echo-chamber of dopey 20-something gadget blog writers still site "customization" as what separates iOS from android as if were something beyond the useless tacky widgets that they call "customization." As if it's really is a feature of note that somehow balances out the platforms. SMH

What matters is the new MBPs, when are they coming out ?
(nobody cares about those stupid, creepy apple watches btw, it is known)
1. If there was news it would be reported.

2. News stories have tags so you can filter out the "stupid" stories you don't like.

3. I've spent the past few minutes trying to figure out how Apple Watches are "creepy"

This is beyond my imignation for few reasons:

1. "Owning an iPhone you are assured a quality device.". You must forogtten antenna gates, you must forgot bent gate, you must forgot iPhone SE Bluetooth problem, you must not have yellowish screen with your iPhone SE. You must forgot bug fasted iOS 9.3 and super embarrassment iOS 8.1 updates.

2. "importantly, one that will be backed up with constantly updates and features by Apple, unlike Android where you are instantly abandoned once they get your sale." I rather want no update than updates like iOS 8.1. If you want timely update, get Nexus phone. Nexus phone are way better than any iPhone and Android is way better than wall gardened iOS at any given time.

3. Rest of your stuff sounds like those PR website and full of craps. Android phone currently are lot better than old days. Samsung S7, LG G5, Huawei Mate 8, Huawei Nexus 6P, HTC 10 those premium phones are as great as iPhone if not bettet. On lower end, Nexus 5X, Huawei 5X, Xiaomi Mi 5 etc are priced lower than recycled iPhone SE and better.

And why tech website need to steering readers away from Android when choices are better and flagship Android phone are better? It would be great injustice to steering readers away from better choices.

12% for a wearable with 71% market share, that's way higher than I imagined. According to this survey, 8.5% of teenagers surveyed have an Apple Watch. That's 1 in 12. Huge numbers if true.

Blackberry has a whole percent? How did that happen?

BBRY holding strong!

The real question here is does anyone ever go back and ask these kids how well their predictions turned out? Did they actually get that "new" iPhone like they predicted a year or two ago?

Note, that while this is I believe a US based survey, I hope it isn't skewed to any particular demographic. So in some ways it may reflect an eventual trend that US smartphone market is heading toward being 75% iOS. I believe it is currently about 50% iOS, so that is a huge amount of potential long term growth.

In those cases, the kids know exactly what phone they are getting. Heck they can see it right there in the hands of their sibling. I bet that kid's prediction is pretty good. They are just hoping the screen isn't too messed up by the time they get it. "Come on Bro, put a case on it!"

Nonsense. Every non-iPhone I have owned was a piece of junk compared to an iPhone. That's just a fact. Switching to an iPhone is a great awakening. Your post is gadget porn propaganda and dishonest. Case in point the iPhone 5s from 2013. Is there an Android phone from 2013 that anyone would be happy owning today as 5s owners do? Every Android device from 2013 is garbage today whereas the 5s is still an up to date workhorse that trumps in every way most cheap new Android devices.
Any gadget tech site with any shred of integrity would steer their readers away from Android and with the SE, the price excuse goes away. Sadly as we see with the Verge and other sites, the young people they hire have no more business, knowledge or clout in recommending anything to anyone than anyone on the street. And they are certainly not a great service to their readers.

And these kids are the CEOs of tomorrow.
There have been some very insightful reviews about employee performance and personal history recently as the classic indicators (which school, class grades and society background) was not panning out as good indicators for hiring. They gave a group of people a big questioner and asked a lot of questions. Surprisingly, the assumption of the rank of college or your rank in class had very little static coloration with job performance. What did matter was surprising: interest in a subject related to your current job in an extra-circular activity, a minor discipline record often involving insubordination, consistent social interaction with newly met people and an organized, non-athletic group activity in ones youth. From that, you will see the CEOs.

Sexting? :D

Data is partially useful. When you survey like this, knowledge of family income is essential to make use of the survey data. This looks like a group of upper middle class to upper class group of teens with such a high iPhone preference. I'm sure the number would be much lower if the family income was lower.

Excellent point. This is ultimately why Andriod phones outnumber iPhones despite popularity. A lot of people get the free with contract Andriod smartphone, not the $850 64GB 6S Plus.

I realized this when I first saw the device numbers of Android phones vs iPhones which didn't match my anecdotal experience. To me it seemed like half of everyone I interacted with had $600+iPhone. The problem: most of my interaction is on a University campus full middle/upper middle class students and I was commuting on a suburban commuter train where the median rider income is $60,000/year.

Teens and kids owning iPhones is exactly what puts me off owning one. The iPhone seems to be more of a fashion statement than anything else these days.

The kind of people that I despise more than the conforming type who will bend over backwards to fit the perceived mold in order to fit in are who I call the anti-conforming who try in a vain attempt to be unique go against what they perceive as the mainstream. iPhones are by far the most elegant, simplistic, and reliable smartphones in the market and that is why I will keep owning one

And i despise sheep who jump over a cliff because the one in front does.

To me, it's a complete waste of time picking something you don't actually want just to be hipster. Life is too short to not enjoy what you want to spend your hard earned money on.

What's funny is that these people are easy to spot in conversation. My personal favorite was this guy in my Differential Equations class trying to look cool with his One Plus One. I knew more about the phone than he did. This crap is an epidemic on college campuses.

Besides being cheaper, does fitbit really do anything my Apple Watch cannot do?

- GPS (Biggest holdout for me right now)
- More of a "band" than a "watch"
- Social fitness

Sure, Apple Watch does a ton of stuff Fitbit doesn't though...

Almost 100% of the reason i dont own one, nothing worse than trying to look different when a whole bunch of young girls use the same phone as you do.

I love lists. Here's my list to counter your list:

1. None of these are or were real "issues," just anti-iPhone fodder.
2. You do not explain why x is better than y.
3. You do not explain why x is better than y.
