Maybe he is referring to big tech announcements? It's hard to imaging a product that would truly wow us in a revolutionary way. With that said, and though it may be evolutionary to some, Apple announcing the M1 was revolutionary in some ways.

Ummmm. First Tesla model S from 2012 looks the exact same in 2022. Case closed….

So I guess CarPlay is not coming to any cars from Tesla. Thank goodness there are some good alternatives in the EV market now.

Hes not wrong though, Since Tim Cook Apple has played it very safe and has not really done a lot of exciting updates to the iPhone for example. The X was the big leap but since then innovation has stalled. The Apple Watch as well. I upgrade annually, but lets be real, Apple has not innovated in a long time.
There's been essentially one new design upgrade since the X, which is totally standard going all the way back to the 3GS and 4S while Jobs was still alive. As far as big leaps go, you're going to have a long wait - not just because Apple's pipeline is so long but because of global supply shortages.

But really, every time I read about something like this I have to wonder if you realize the delicate balance it is to release each new iPhone. No device on earth launches with the same supply nor demand, and it happens every single year. Back in the days of the iPhone 4, iPhones sold as much in a year as they do in a day now. A company like HTC can throw together a handset and sell a million of them without worrying about needing 10s of millions of the same parts, or shipping them globally. Samsung can create a $2500 foldable phone and release it as an alpha test because they don't need to worry about supporting 100 million of them for the next 6 years.

Tesla design chief Franz von Holzhausen recently commented on Apple's design principles and product launches, lamenting that Apple doesn't deliver something "to look forward to."

During a podcast interview with Spike Feresten of Spike's Car Radio (via iPhone in Canada and Sawyer Merritt), Holzhausen said that Apple's devices are "just a continuation" and a "slight refinement on the same thing."

He also said that he "hates to say it" but he wears an Apple Watch "just because of the fitness thing side to it. Otherwise I haven't really found much purpose to it, other than the fitness part."

Holzhausen is responsible for designing the Tesla Model S, the Model 3, the Model X, and the Model Y, along with the unreleased Cybertruck. He has been with Tesla since 2008, and before that, he was the chief of design at Mazda and led the design of the Mazda Kabura concept car.

Apple and Tesla have a long history of poaching employees from one another, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also publicly sniped at Apple. Back in 2015, Musk famously called Apple the "Tesla Graveyard," and claimed that "if you don't make it at Tesla, you go work at Apple."

Shut it Franz! This is not helping me get Apple Music in my damn car

They are just angry because of all the competition is stealing their marketplace so they shoot barbs at other companies doing extremely well.

Have a look at this article showing how many electric vehicles a buyer can choose from. 2022 will be year that tests Tesla's profitability.

none of these really beat out their respectable counterpart in tesla, either their range sucks, motor not as efficient, or both, and even when they do satisfy both category, their software sucks. tesla is miles ahead of any competitors for 5 years +

I disagree, there is something to look forward to: the new Apple product I got having hopefully no quality control issues.
I’ve not had a single one so far that didn’t require me to return it because the screen or some other part was defective right out of the box 🙄

mmmm... Let see...... How 'bout we turn that around ..OK Elon?.............

"The sad part about Tesla products now is like there's nothing to look forward to. I feel like it's just a continuation. It's just a slight refinement on the same thing. Inspirationally, it's been hard to get super motivated by what they're doing."

....... They all look the same all have the same basic concept, all have very little over new products from established makers now coming out in droves......

Sorry Elon you are going to have rough years ahead without innovating ....your brand is FAST becoming stale..... Where is that 600+ mile range model 3 for under $40k.......... Waiting........ Waiting.......

Apple/Mac user since 1991. Wearing AW and carrying iPhone 12 Pro Max. Typing on a 2021 MBP. Use HomeKit with lights, cameras, alarm system, HomePods, etc. Needless to say, I am neck deep in the Apple ecosphere.

Nonetheless, I have a hard time arguing with the article. Can't say that it's not a bit humorous coming from Tesla, but still, Apple has clearly lost the vision that Jobs created/carried for years. Does anyone really think that TC is not simply about the $$ and shareholders? Apple has gone from innovator to improver, IMO.

I'm not moving away because no one else is doing better in any meaningful way, but the company is definitely not the same operation that made people drool over what creative release could be next.

"One more thing..." is now "Same old thing..." and 'Think Different' is now 'Group Think'.

Yes, this is JMHO, but emanating from someone who would LOVE to have the kind of excitement that he had 20 years ago!

I have no idea what that means. In the UK (where I am) the tax incentives are huge.
uk is one little market, uk is not gonna make or break tesla's profitability, china and us on the other hand. the incentives here in the states has basically dried up to the point where its irelevent.

Sigh……

He’s just doing this because Apple Car is likely going to destroy Tesla’s market share once it comes out. He knows whenever Apple comes out with the product, the refinements they make is what makes the product stand out.

And Tesla knows once Apple comes out with a car, it’ll be a car “perfected” and that will be the one other automakers will copy, not Tesla. And Tesla, they’ll be forgotten about.

Dream on Tesla and Elon Musk. Your distraction tactic won’t work on most Apple evangelist like me. As soon as Apple releases the car, many of us will likely dump their Tesla for Apple’s.

I doubt Tesla sales will be that much impacted by the Apple Car if Apple does eventually make one. They’ve already nailed down the primary selling points for future EVs: long range, good safety, self driving, and speed. Apple will probably create a more polished system but given how entrenched Tesla in the EV market and the Apple-like brand loyalty from Tesla users, Apple will probably be taking more market share from traditional car makers than Tesla.

Interviews like these work better to recruit talent than anything. People who are able to work at Tesla are Apple usually have more freedom to pick and choose where they want to work based on their passion, and pushing Tesla’s innovative image will attract designers and engineers who are cream of the crop.

Funny, because I use it for contactless payments all the time. Way more convenient that the phone.
Oh, I don’t disagree. I use it for everything from plugging in my car to unlocking doors. I was interpreting the ridiculous quote from the article.

Those are just his opinions but here are some hard cold facts.

1. Tesla makes good EVs but average cars.
2. They are over hyped and over valued and will find it really hard to compete once tax benefits for EVs dry up.
3. Elon Musk is a giant turd. Tim Cook is just a shrewd boring business exec in comparison.

Tesla is about to get hit by a wave of better quality EV's coming out of Europe like they've never seen. Tesla no longer gets the tax benefit but Polestar does, and this Polestar 3 (and 4 and 5 shortly thereafter) is going to be a serious competitor being built in the US with no Chinese tariffs to increase prices.

He’s scared and can’t wait for what Apple will deliver in the automotive market.
Do you really think it will though? I think he's sort of right, the truly innovative force at Apple passed away quite a few years ago. The M1 chips, as brilliant as they are, are really just the A-series chips, beefed up for Macs, and the idea was hatched when Steve was still around, and merely put on hold because Intel were still delivering quite well back then, so that's all actually Steve. The iPhone 12 design is actually the iPhone 4 design for crying out loud. Apple is where it is entirely because of Steve, but he's gone now. There is no other truly innovative genius at Apple anymore, just a bunch of people that have managed to not kill the gravy train. Bless them for that. Where is the hardware innovation going to come from for the Apple car?

And then there's software. The software quality control at Apple continues to decline. macOS is a buggy mess. Siri is nothing but a joke. Would you even be brave enough to drive an Apple car controlled by Apple software? I wouldn't. Seriously, I'm not even joking, there's no way I'm putting my life in the hands of Apple bugsville.

Tesla, as weird as they are, are driven by Elon's innovative crackpot genius. He took the electric car market and turned it entirely on its head. Sure, the models S, 3, X, Y are mostly just boring looking cars, but they did change the world. The CyberTruck is an insanely innovative and eye-popping design. Yep, they are full of annoying quirks, and I don't actually want one anymore now that the other manufacturers are catching up. Except the CyberTruck, I definitely want one of those, simply because of how damn cool they look, I just wish it didn't have Tesla's annoying nana-is-watching-over-you software control freakiness.

Genuinely curious. What "revolutionary products" would MacRumors members like to see Apple come out with? An industry-changing product like the iPhone isn't exactly a product that companies come out with frequently. They're relatively rare.
