Good. Premium price means they can put more great tech in there. If you want a less powerful device, buy a cheaper model.
No, paying more for an Apple product doesn't necessarily mean you get a more powerful device or more great tech. You pay a premium for an iMac yet you get a 5400RPM hard drive. And don't get me going on the Mac Pro...

Look rocket scientists--it's a phone only in name. How many of you knuckleheads actually make more than two voice calls per day? (and, yes, I know, I know--ALL of you are super-important traveling business types who make calls all day long to every high-level exec in the valley because otherwise the world will end and, well, you're super-important).

My guess is the majority of you spend the majority of your time on your iPhones texting, playing games, checking email, browsing Web, checking FB to see what your middle school classmate ate for lunch, etc, etc. WHICH IS WHAT YOU DO ON A COMPUTER.

The iPhone is a computer. It's not a $100 flip-phone from 1996. So quit whining and pay up...for your computer.
Relax, it's just a phone we're taking about. Not a personal relative. :)

Apple just reported record profits. What lesson are they supposed to have learnt?

People love their Apple products. If you find them overpriced, there is no shortage of other people willing to pay a premium for their products.

It is the Apple critics have learnt nothing. Year after year, they claim Apple is doomed for whatever reason they dig out of their behind and year after year, they have been proven dead wrong.

When will you people ever learn?

Uh huh. Sure.

I've been a mac user since 1990. I've always used mac gear in every job I've had and still use a mac myself. Hell, I used to SELL them to offices!
However, even back then I was annoyed by the grossly inflated price of mac gear. Then it was understandable since Apple was such a tiny percentage of the market.
Now that they are one of the biggest companies out there (if not the largest) and tech is cheaper to make now (especially with Chinese SLAVE labor working until they die for pennies), the is NO excuse for Apple tech to cost 10x the price of other manufacturers gear.
The only reason for what is commonly referred to as 'Apple Tax' is the CEO's greed and inhumanity towards the consumer.

Apple has abandoned the customer base that actually made their company what it is now: the desktop using professional.
They now just make vapid toys for vapid people to play with while removing functionality and versatility (how's that no ports thing working for you?).
And how's that 2012 Mac Pro with a 2011 processor in 2017 working out for you? It's not. Its old, out of date and an embarrassment. Especially when people (like the 86x forum) can build a superior Hackintosh for a 3rd the cost.
An iToy sold at over a grand is nothing more than, "Hey, our fanboys are dumb. Lets make the next phone a thousand bucks and watch the drones flock to it." Period.

The cheapest iPhone 7 costs $649 in the US and £599 in the UK.

I've seen some of your other posts discussing the recent price rises due to the low pound and I'm not sure you really understand what is going on. The exchange rate today is $1.2561 to the pound. Convert $649 to pounds, add the 20% VAT and you get £620. Are you sure you want Apple to adjust their prices today?

I fully understand what is going on and that Apple used Brexit as an excuse, because the pound was weak, ow its stronger. Yet the prices are still the same.
Als your example is flawed as you have assumed everywhere in America pays 20% tax which i don't believe they do, because that's implying America pays $129.80 tax on the iPhone.

For instance the standard ZIP code for New York is 10001, now Apples US website calculates the tax for the $649 32GB iPhone 7 as $57.60, so plus the $649 that makes the iPhone £565.55 sterling, so yeah I would like Apple to adjust its prices thanks.

This is BS. The phone is basically a more expensive, currently available, Android phone.

If they are truly going to release two phones, a 4th gen iPhone 6 and the "8", I hope that Samsung and the other Android phones out there do better than Apple. They have gotten greedy.

That's actually true, it will be the fourth year running they'll be using the same design, but I expect that as at the iPhone 7 launch, they went to great lengths to describe how the iPhone 7 featured a "georgeous new design"... read between the big gap lines and it's basically means, look we are going to keep using this design get over it, we're cheap.

So apples customers are vapid people?

Does it have Force Touch?

Does it have Apple Pay?

Does it have seamless pairing like with AirPods?

Does it have iMessage?

Does the battery last for a day?

Do I have to deal with burn in screens?

No, thank you, that and a 1000 more reasons. And the iPhone doesn't explode.

Dude, these are mostly just iNames. The battery lasts for a day and being a bigger battery Note phones have much longer stand by and talk time than iPhones. Burn in is a concern only on Apple-centric forums. Samsung pay is actually accepted in all locations unlike Apple Pay.

Apple tech does not cost ten times the price of other competing alternatives.

The only reason for what is commonly referred to as 'Apple Tax' is the CEO's greed and inhumanity towards the consumer.
Which has always existed since day one.

Apple has abandoned the customer base that actually made their company what it is now: the desktop using professional.
Apple owes its customers nothing, just as we don't owe Apple anything.

What Apple device has no ports again?

I don't use a Mac Pro.

Apple is desperately trying to stave off the inevitable market forces which are turning the smart phone into a commodity device. As with IBM, they will increasingly turn to services to differentiate their products and try to maintain high profit margins. I wish them luck, they're going to need it.

I have spent over twenty years of my life in Japan, China, Korea, Lao and Thailand please don't condescend to me and tell me all about it. I speak 4 Asian languages and have some idea of the culture here.

I did not mean to condescend, as (I hope) you did not mean to grossly generalize a culture & try to make them seem distinct from other cultures.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that in the last 20 years away from America you've just become blissfully unaware of how the culture is here.... perhaps it was slightly different where you lived here in the 80's or whatever.

No matter.... I'll catch you up!
Status symbols are HUGE in the United States- for both the rich & the poor alike.
In the inner city, even if a family is on public assistance & well below the poverty line; they may splurge on a $100 pair of Nike's for their 5 year old. This is as a status symbol.
The wealthy elite flaunt their Patek watches and small run luxury cars as status symbols. The middle class buy expensive kit from Apple as their status symbols.
I can assure you sir: buying goods as status symbols is simply NOT a phenomenon unique to Asian cultures...
The more you dig your heels in and insist it is, the more you divorce yourself from reality & truthfully seem incredibly out of touch.

You know that this is just a made up rumor right... Clue: The title of the website is the giveaway.

Oh and other high end devices are about the same price.
LOL and we realize that we're commenting on a rumor article right? Did you just wake up? you're a little slow today.

iNames?

Is there anything better than Apple Pay?

Isn't iTunes the largest library and most used music store?

etc? etc? etc?

Battery lasting for a day on a Galaxy? LOL...

The iPhone has the best standby and talk time in the real world, Android sucks for battery, they still don't have centralized push notifications!

Burn-in is not a concern in Apple-centric forums, there are a lot of topics in XDA and other forums, but the fanboys keep attacking everyone who brings it up

Samsung Pay is a bad joke!

Absolutely nobody is using them.

And their magnetic band emulation? Just when the US (behind the rest of the world) was switching to chip cards, and doesn't make anything better or faster, still needs a signature, still slow, still insecure.

You don't have to buy Apple, but do let me know other computer companies that are not using those "Chinese slave labors."

You just want a cheap Mac. Stop calling people that have different preferences than you as "dumb" and talking like you have the higher moral ground.

"Physical buttons, such as the volume button, power button, and mute switch could also be eliminated" please someone tell me this is a joke.

It so tedious, inefficient, embarrassing, and sometimes impossible adjusting volume on Airpods via Siri vs the iPhone's physical buttons. Please Apple for the love of whatever you hold dear, stop the obsession of thinness and port/button removal. PLEASE.

I've been hearing this too... PC manufacturers like HP and Dell get more profits from selling services than hardware.

It won't be. It will just be another iterative upgrade from the prior. I'd need a SIGNIFICANT wow factor to pay that much for a phone. That's just insane. You can get a decent mabook air for that. Unreal.
And what if it is a wow? Seems like it will be

Not trying to change the subject (or defend Apple pricing strategy) but if you look around, it isn't just Apple, businesses are abandoning the lower/middle classes as they just don't have the purchasing power they used to. Same reason Disneyland tickets cost upwards of $150 now.

You can't beat Apple's 'Continuity' feature. It's worth having an iPhone + iPad + Mac for that. Doesn't mean you have to buy the most expensive iPhone at the moment, you can buy the SE.

I will preorder one of these sight unseen if they have a non-godzilla model. Not interested in a tablet phone sorry!

What if the bigger phone is $1000 for a base 32GB version?
I don't think they would do this for a special edition. Like the Jet Black, there's probably a higher minimum. Worst case scenario I'm thinking is 128GB starting at $999, which wouldn't be terrible if it has most of the things on my list and is truly a revolutionary design. I've always been on board with a more expensive iPhone Pro. I'd also like to add to my list Apple Pencil support. Would be nice to do thumbnail sketches on the go. Or at least a true tone sensor.

This is what you get for supporting Apple with its high prices.

People vote with their wallets. They keep buying iPhones at super high prices. I'm not saying it's a bad phone, only it's really really expensive for what it should be.

If people where to stop buying it at these increased prices Apple would listen and lower the price.
