On the Internet, it can be hard to tell if someone knows what they're talking about or is just spouting out of an improbable orifice.

On MacRumors, it's easier. Just look up the author. Appledarklord has been with us since *yesterday,* and has already posted 42 messages.

Who's that tripping over my bridge?

Last Plasma TV I had was a Samsung and will never buy a POS Samsung TV after that. Didn't last near as long as my Pioneer Plasma TV that I had.
That's a Samsung issue. I also have pioneers and Panasonic. The leaders of plasma. Still going strong

It is not an assumption, it is a fact. Just google
AMOLED burn-in
it must happen after you keep using the phone, the question is just when it starts to happen.

You started a thread on this "issue "and telling somebody to "Google it" is rather dismissive. You could provide facts confirming Your own claims instead of pushing the issue that burn in is such a major issue across the board, when in reality, it's not, as plenty of others have already indicated.

As we all know the screen for iPhone X is from Samsung. And the Samsung "AMOLED burn-in" problem is very famous and everyone in the android side knows it. Just google "AMOLED burn-in" if you don't know about it. Basically after around a year, there will be some permanent burn-in marks on the screen and there is no way to solve it.

I have no idea why people feel excited about this coming new screen, I personally would not get one.

It will only make sense if you will buy a new phone after a year anyway. I don't buy new phone every single year especially for a phone that is $1000 (it is $13xx-$14xx in a lot of countries) without counting the apple care, fast charge cable, wireless dock, case, screen protector............
Is the iPhone display an AMOLED? I thought it was just enhanced OLED. Apple should just call it AMOLED if it is the same.

I wish I had gotten one of the VT’s or ZT’s right before they were discontinued, man those TV’s were amazing. Hopefully OLED comes down in price a bit in the next year or two.

Yeah that's what I have. They are a treat to look at every time. OLEDs are definitely coming down in price. Wait for fall/winter; their top tiers will be around $1600-2k on sale. That's a hell of a deal for the leader in TV performance. I would like to shake LGs hand for pushing the tech.

Okay.
1. I said I’ve heard of these issues, I didn’t say EVERYONE HAS HAD THEM.
2. Here’s a very recent thread about the issue. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/software-update-burned-apple-logo-into-my-screen.2070891/
3. I don’t know if you were kidding, but if you weren’t you’re incredibly brash and annoying. You’re seriously going to shout “Fake News” at me just because YOU don’t have the problem that some people do? If you want to live your life being that self-centered and obnoxious I can’t stop you but please stop bringing it to these forums.
You misrepresented a single case as being something more widespread. Your response was tasteless. Get over yourself.

The last phone I had with burn-in was the Galaxy S2, and I've owned the S3, Note 3, S6+, S7 Edge and currently have the S8+ without a problem.

Didn't stop the galaxy S2 being my favourite phone I ever owned. Was miles ahead of its time.

I've got to hand it to the OP, all these posts saying: "Wow, I didn't know that, I won't buy"

Use your persuasion power for good, my son. :)

I’ve heard of Apple Watch having burn-in problems with its AMOLED display, so you can bet iPhone X will have some issues too. It’s not a huge deal. Just don’t leave your phone on one, bright screen or pattern for prolonged periods of time.
Like both sides of the notch that will display the same icons most of time ?

I’ve seen more than just one case that’s just the case I cited. I also find YOU calling MY response tasteless extremely ironic, considering your initial response and even more so this one. If anyone here needs to get over themself it’s you. Stop being so toxic and obnoxious to everyone.

Those icons get a lot rest on an OLED display. They’re only white when the backdrop is dark, which is actually pretty rare. Usually they’re displayed as black on top of a white or lighter background (when surfing the web, App Store, Apple Music, etc.). When they’re black on an OLED display the pixels are actually turned off, so they most likely won’t burn the display.

What burn in problem? I've been using my Samsung galaxy s6 edge since it came out and no issue with the screen. Ask me about the battery and I'll tell you it's sh*t!

My Sony (cathode ray tube) television has burn in now. I knew I should have gotten the color model :(

Grainy/powdery? Then the iPhone screens must be a strait up blur! I am VERY unbiased as I use both but there is no way that the iPhone screens are more clear.
I think he might be referring to the way the edges on the curved edge screens look. There's a bit of distortion there, that's the only thing I can think of, otherwise the OLED display is pretty dense and grain free, as I think you'd agree. Most people don't notice the slight distortion on the edges. I do, so I'm not a fan. On my flat S7, the OLED display is just about perfect and I have not seen any burn-in in over a year of use. (edit: correction I’ve had the S7 in use since last Christmas. The SIM card is in my other Samsung now, but I still use it on WiFi and use it for VR as well. AOD still going strong).

Speaking to everyone else here who expressed alarm over the original post: There will be quality variances in OLED displays, same as with LCD displays. People do need to be prepared for that, but not anxious over it. If you find yourself with one that looks murky or has a horrific tint, simply exchange. Most people will have nice screens. There is no need to anticipate a widespread problem or -gate at this point. OLED displays are a known quantity and those of us with Android phones have used them for years. Yet nobody is running screaming from the Samsung display cases. Quite the opposite, in fact.

This person is trying to spread fear and dissatisfaction for a product that has not even been released yet.

if you are into movie a couple years ago, Plasma is the king. I have a few of them. over the years, all manufacturers claimed that burn-in was no longer an issue.

on my second plasma, I watched alot tv shows with closed caption, and it caused burn-in. From that point on, I treated plasma like a baby. no static icon, even mute icon, mix contents like closed caption and black bar.

so burn-in can be avoided but the peace of mind is the issue. you are constantly worried and babysit to make sure that it is not burned in.

if you go to Best Buy, check out Samsung phones. you will see one or two phones have burn-in. Burn-in is one of the disadvantages that OLED has.

I have a 1080P plasma tv that I’ve owned now for 6 years. Guess how much burn in I have? Guess??

I’ll tell you how much. None. Nothing. Nada. Nyente. Zip. Zippydedooda. Zero. That’s how much. I can aslo bet it’s got a far superior screen to your Led lcd tv.

I’m not worried about burnin on the oled screen when I buy the iPhone.

I have Panasonic plasma 65ST60. I watched 6 seasons of tv shows with closed caption. one day I watched movie with white background, like snow, I noticed two lines burn in at the bottom of screen. later I learned that closed caption caused it.

that plasma was the last one that Panasonic made with latest plasma tech. so yeah, plasma has burn in if you are not careful.

Pentile screen? Where did you get this info from?

I don't think Samsung uses pentile anymore. It's diamond pixel construction now. It's still not perfect though, looks more fuzzy than some LCD screens. I prefer iPhone LCD to Samsung OLED's.

The iPhone X screen is probably going to look like the S7 screen. I don't say the S8 because it only has 600 nits, so it's probably their last year gen display, S7.

I absolutely love the screen on my Galaxy S8- although I do prefer the 8 Plus screen over the S8, the pixel layout on the S8 actually isn't too bad considering it's got a 1440p-ish screen. When I look very, very closely I can see the graininess, but to me it's about the same as the iPhone Plus models at 1080p.

That said- to all those who worry about potential OLED burn in on the iPhone X... well, I wouldn't worry about it. When googling "Galaxy S8 burn in", there are a select few forum topics (and news articles that link to those forum topics) from the two months after the S8 release, but I can't find anything much more recent than that. It certainly doesn't appear to be a widespread issue on modern OLED displays.

It’s rumored Apple’s OLED patents are being integrated and it’s not a straight parts bin purchase from Samsung. Samsung might just be a fabrication company.

Apple's intellectual property on OLED began in 2009 and the U.S. Patent Office granted Apple their first patent regarding OLED back in 2013. The same year Apple hired a high powered leader in AMOLED from LG Display, Dr. Lee Jeung-jil.

Apple's been working on OLED awhile. I’m kind of expecting some weird Apple take on OLED because that’s just their style.

I've had many phones with AMOLED. Never and issue with burn in. So you can have your research but I have real world use of many devices. I'm not even getting the X myself but even I know this is not a reason for not getting the phone.
