Called again and supervisor was very apologetic and said they were told not to give anymore bumpers.... very disappointing that they're making us buy cases for the phone to work properly...

got two email updates on my wife and i's free bumpers, her is white and mine is black. seeing the new detail photos of the white im kinda regreting not getting the white now. oh well if i get tired of the black ill get the white later once they are available in stores hopefully soon. hers is out until i think the 14th or 16th though mine says it will ship between 5-7 business days. is that acurate is there any way they may both ship sooner than that?

Called Apple, was about to get a free case when the senior adviser claimed his manager denied to request to mail out a bumper for free

LOL I called the supervisor suggested for me to put electric tape around my phone....hhahahah stupid. She said she has been given strict orders not to give out any more free bumpers.

Same response I got. The lady told me "THE IPHONE 3GS HAD THE SAME ISSUE....NO BIG WORRIES" Thats when i got real disrespectful . After war of words she said she was going to forward me to higher authority, I just hung up.

Their senior support is getting pretty nasty with customers now. 2 days in a row I have called about an update on the issue and to add about my compass (off by 45 degrees) and camera (green tint) and I got the canned response.

You guys are seriously obsessed with this little $29 bumper... is it really worth that much time and effort to get a little piece of rubber? Return your iPhone or give up and buy a case.

The new Apple Tech Support memo that leaked....

1. Keep all of the positioning statements in the BN handy – your tone when delivering this information is important.
a. The iPhone 4’s wireless performance is the best we have ever shipped. Our testing shows that iPhone 4’s overall antenna performance is better than iPhone 3GS.
b. Gripping almost any mobile phone in certain places will reduce its reception. This is true of the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, and many other phones we have tested. It is a fact of life in the wireless world.
c. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 3GS, avoid covering the bottom-right side with your hand.
d. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 4, avoid covering the black strip in the lower-left corner of the metal band.
e. The use of a case or Bumper that is made out of rubber or plastic may improve wireless performance by keeping your hand from directly covering these areas.
2. Do not perform warranty service. Use the positioning above for any customer questions or concerns.
3. Don’t forget YOU STILL NEED to probe and troubleshoot. If a customer calls about their reception while the phone is sitting on a table (not being held) it is not the metal band.
4. ONLY escalate if the issue exists when the phone is not held AND you cannot resolve it.
5. We ARE NOT appeasing customers with free bumpers – DON’T promise a free bumper to customers.

I hope this is not an official Apple policy - they are confirming that a bumper helps the issue but refuse to provide one. They also refuse to acknowledge that losing a bar or two of signal is far different than dropping calls altogether. If this becomes the official Apple policy on the iPhone 4 I will be (very reluctantly) returning mine.

So I looked online at apple.com at my iPhone order status this morning and a black bumper has been added at no cost. I never even called them, as I don't have my phone yet.

Lol so it was added because my dad called but long story got it. Called apple after I told him about this forum so called apple and after talking to a supervisor was told can't help you purchased your phone through AT&T call them. So my dad calls them and after talking to some rude reps was given a $30 credit. Went to apple that night for something unrelated and while talking to the guy told him about the situation he said to call apple care and tell them the whole story. Dad did that and the lady was apologetic and adds one to my account and my dad asked well what if my daughter needs one, so she said she added a note to my account and to call after I receive my phone!!

So my first generation iPhone cost around $600 and came with everything. My new iPhone 4 cost $199 plus $29 for a bumper and came with a charger, usb cable, and two apple stickers. It did not come with a microfiber cloth, sim ejector tool (aka a fancy paperclip), or a dock.

Apple is making their products less expensive over time for their consumers.

It is not their responsibility to buy your iPhone case for you. I also find it rather comical how most people who were complaining and obsessively tracking their iPhone orders to make sure they were the first people to have the iPhone 4 are the first people to complain and try to get Apple gift cards or free bumpers for their "troubles".

The free bumper committee should just be thankful that Apple would rather just send you a free bumper than have to deal with your calls anymore. Hopefully it will also end the endless influx of pointless threads on these forums.

I find it comical that you think we the consumer only pay $199 for the iPhone. Are you forgetting that you signed up for a 2 year agreement? Don't worry, by the time 2 years is up, you will have payed much more than $199. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

yikes i guess no more free bumpers..thats really wrong of apple

Seriously folks, instead of trying to get a free bumper, return it if you are experiencing problems. A lot of people aren't reporting problems and others are just patching it with a bumper. If it really is a problem to you, then return it. Only by getting enough returns will Apple really do anything.

I got one free.. Since 7 dropped calls with in the time I was talking to guy.. But it's on back order

Did anyone received (the people here who Apple promised a free bumper) a second email (after the follow-up email from the Apple advisor) with an order confirmation or shipping #? Just curious if the bumper will just arrive one day or if I can actually check the order status / tracking #.

Thanks,
Christian

When I have 30 minutes of free time at work which is everyday. I will make the call to get my free bumper, as I am saving myself money (that is half of that I make in a day), hopefully fixing a problem (if my phone has it when it comes), making money, and not wasting $30 on a piece of rubber. So really all I am doing is wasting Apple's time when it was their problem in the first place.

My dad's bumper is in my order status along with my iphone. It has an order #, description, a ship by date, how many business days it will take, and the cost ($0).
