This is going to be my first iPhone, so I have a few questions about the pre-order and also how availability has been in recent years.

If it goes up for pre-order on Friday 11th September, presumably release day will be Friday 18th, if this is the case, do you think the phone would land on my doorstep on that day, or could it be a day or 2 before (assuming I manage to place a pre-order of course). Its just because I'm heading away for the weekend on Friday, and would be chomping at the bit to get home and collect it.

Do you think there is any chance I could walk into an Apple Store on Friday 18th, with no pre-order, and walk out with a 64Gb Silver iPhone 6S? Has this been possible recently? I always hear about them increasing order numbers every year, so wondered if you think there will be supply issues.

Can you pre-order and collect in store?

Thanks
Stewart

Edit: Also, if I buy it through a 3rd party (Carphone Warehouse for example), if something goes wrong, can I still take it to the Genius Bar and get it swapped out, or would I have to go through CPW?

You're not going to get your phone before release day even if you preorder. Apple is very strict about this and usually instructs the couriers not to deliver before release day.

As to the chance of getting a 64GB Silver model by walking in is anyone's guess as no one knows the supply of the new phones. That said in recent years it has typically been difficult unless you're willing to camp out for a day or two, especially with all the scalpers buying multiple phones. Your best chance is to get the model you want and on release day is to preorder online as soon as the preorders go up. The App Store app usually comes online with the new phones before the web site so it would be best to use that.

As to your last question it doesn't matter where you buy the phone from you still have a one year warranty with the manufacturer in this case Apple and you can make make an appointment at the Genius Bar. They may offer to repair it or swap it out. I think in recent years Apple has been less inclined to just swap phones out but Italy depends on what is wrong with it and who you speak to in the Apple Store. The place you bought it from may be willing to swap it out but that varies from retailer to retailer. I always preorder unlocked phones from Apple online and also get AppleCare Plus so I'm pretty much covered. That said I've never had any issues at launch with any of my iPhone's or iPads.

Wonder if what GB model you want will decide what sells out quicker? i'm hoping demand for the 128GB won't be quite as big so i won't need to worry at mid night here in the UK and can get one easily.

128 lasts longer, but only by about 10-30 minutes. If you want it, you have to be there when it starts. Try your carriers site because they usually open with less demand on their servers. Last year I did the f5 dance on store.apple and it wouldn't load. I went to my carrier, Verizon, and their site was up with no lag. By the time my preorder was done, the apple site was back up for me, but sold out of the phone I wanted.

I will be on as soon as it becomes available. So hopefully I will have no issues getting one.

In the UK, is it at midnight GMT that we can preorder, or midnight CET?

64 GB iPhone 6s for me! My current 6 Plus is just too big for everyday usage. Gonna miss the extra screen real estate for gaming and videos though...

I won't be pre-ordering, but instead camping out at my local Apple Store. Already have the 2 days off, should be exciting!

I'd hold off and find out whether they'll actually be doing a store launch right away. Remember that Angela doesn't like the queues and the bad press they can sometimes afford Apple. I really wouldn't be surprised if they move to an online-only format for the iPhone, just as they did with the Watch. Meaning the phone won't be available in stores for a couple of months. Not saying it's going to happen, I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised. It was my understanding they were trying to do away with the queues.

Pretty much the same. As much as I've enjoyed using the 6 Plus, I really think I'll be dropping to the smaller size. Switching my iPad Air for whatever new iPad mini they bring out though. Unless the 6s Plus has a killer feature over the regular 6s which I can't live without. :D

I recall Angela saying something about how the Apple Watch launch was a unique launch and that lines outside the store would return for future product launches. Camping and waiting in line is fun and a cool experience (did it for the 3G and 4 launches), but I'm gonna stick with ordering online from here on out.

Which countries will be in the first batch? This was the list with the iPhone 6:
  • EU: Germany, France, UK
  • US
  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Asia: Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan
What do you except after the terrible launch of the Apple Watch more countries of less?

That was me during the 6 Plus launch. I was like "wowwww it's got a better screen, battery, and camera! I GOTTA HAVE IT!!" But now I've realized that for everyday usage it's just too big for my needs.

I swear the 6s Plus better not getting any killer features over the 6s... I'm gonna try and stick to my guns and get the 6s still!!

It is that time of year again Ladies and Gentlemen! The 6S and 6S Plus pre order thread. There will be excitement, there will be anger, despair and mass OCD flight tracking. Over a million refresh keys will be replaced and touch screen glass cracked in search for information. "When will my iPhone arrive?" But this is just the intro, "It's happening", it will all kick off on September 9th. But here is the thread.

You are evil .

Waiting for the preorder to begin :D.

No it's not. It's been Midnight PST, 3:00 AM EST and 8:00 AM GMT for the past few years. Preorders go up at Midnight on the US West Coast which is 8:00 in the morning here.
I haven't ordered since iPhone 5 so you would know better than me

The Apple Watch launch was an exception to the rule. Apple will in all likely hood be returning to their normal launches starting with the new iPhone. There were too many variables in the Apple Watch choices along with all the watch straps for it to be practical to launch at retail stores.

If I'm there, online, as soon as the phones go on sale, what's the chance of bagging myself a space grey 6S+ 64GB foe delivery on release day?

Exceptionally high. Those who are ready and waiting by and large will get an order for the device they want. Be quick with your purchase. The Apple Store app usually comes online before the site store does, so that's probably your best bet. It's how I'll be doing it anyway.

Cheers for the reply mate. I take it there'll be no purchase limit in terms of cost when using Apple Pay through the store app?

Ok, guess I will just see nearer the time where it's going to be easier to get one from. I have a £30 Apple Store gift card, so will try and get it from Apple.

Another one (not related to pre orders), if the new iPhone 6s is 0.2mm thicker, the chances are iPhone 6 cases will still fit won't they?
