Vests are permitted (albeit not those long-sleeved 'compression' ones) during the months of December and January only, while League rules clearly state that no player is permitted to enter the field of play without their nipples being properly greased.

Bit of an odd one that, actually.

Yes! Thanks for the recognition commish! My team is very hot right now. I am visiting London over New Years and I plan to have a nice talk with my players to energize them for the second half run at the double. Hopefully it works. We're looking at you Brainerd FC. ;)

C'mon you Shrooms!
:D

Congrats to pivo6 and pjlander!

The cream is rising to to the top! And well away from the Stoplights... I'm not sure what you call the stuff that gets stuck in the middle, maybe sludge, but that seems to be where I'm firmly entrenched.

Head to head, Mr. Cakes put up an excellent fight this week, but I caught you on a late (and lucky) substitution. Seems Vidic forgot to take the pitch, but Jones was waiting in the wings and chomping at the bit to perform.

Now the rematch with Nieval's Angry Mob approaches and the wratched-up rhetoric continues! You sir, are going down.

The winter has Englandshire well and truly in its icy grip, and already a number of Premier League fixtures have fallen prey to the weather. I'll be performing a full thread inspection shortly but — given that arn has installed under-post heating following last year's postponements — I reckon we'll be okay.

Remember though, anyone I catch posting in a snood will be facing a points deduction. :p

Will those games be played tomorrow and therefore count for this GW?

No, the matches will be rearranged for later in the season — keep an eye out for the dates, as it means that teams will have a double Gameweek. If you have a player or players this affects, it basically means they get two matches in the same week, offering a valuable chance for canny managers to gain an advantage over their rivals.

OK, yet another question...

This GW I had chosen Nani as my captain, but he didn't play. I selected Form as my emergency captain strategy, but instead of Everton's Cahill getting the Fantasy Armband, they gave it to Kevin Davies who was on my bench and substituted in. Why would they do that?

Hmm – I would assume that substitutions are sorted first, then the Emergency captain decided, and Davies (K) must be rated better insofar as form is concerned than Cahill is.

To be honest, I find the emergency captain rule a bit frustrating myself.

By the way, I'm planning on a proper update on the MR Cup early in the New Year (probably to coincide with the FA Cup Third Round weekend), so if your team is also vying for that piece of silverware watch this space. Well, a space below this post in any case...

It's now January, which means that we can now have a review of December's goings on.

League-Table_December.png

Its little surprise that defending champions Brainerd FC are still sitting at the top of the table under the stewardship of pivo6. We're still only halfway through the season though, so there are still plenty of points to play for and pivo6 will have to have his managerial wits about him to ensure he isn't usurped.

But while the table may have a familiar look about it, there's a new name engraved on December's MacRumors Manager of the Month trophy, and it belongs to Tilpots who has steered his Stoplights side to an unrivalled 238 points for the month.

Well done pivo6 and Tilpots. :)

Well, this GW's the big push for the Stoplights. The WC has been played and I made sure to load up on the players with double games this week. So far, so good! I've still got eight more players to potentially score points.

This new crop of players were almost solely based on their opportunity this week, so I'm hopeful they can keep it up until I get a better mix of talent in there.

It looks like some folks have stopped playing and given up already. Who else is still out there competing?

On a completely different note, I have family moving to Islington in the next month. Is it most likely Arsenal is the area's team of choice?

I'm still competing, but so ineffectually that you might not have noticed.

I've had particularly bad luck with my captain strategy; every time I change it the person I just took it from scores two or more goals.

Ha! I think I've only moved up a few notches becasue a team or two has fallen out. Advancing by default has been my best strategy so far!

That's my MO! My ex-captain punishes me for removing the arm band on a weekly basis.

Splendid work, good to see that you're taking advantage of the double week to try and maximise your points haul – you're clearly paying attention!

Certainly, the Emirates is in Islington – I'm obliged to make a very obvious 'Manchester United tend to be most Londoners' team of choice though' comment. ;)

So, we're just tipping into February then – which means that it's time to review January's League action.

League-Table_January.png

I'm sure it'll come as little surprise to anyone to see that pivo6's Brainerd FC are still topping the table – however, there are a clutch of teams looking to get the gap closed down over the upcoming months, so Minnesota's finest can't afford any complacency. ;)

But now onto January's MacRumors Manager of the Month. His form this month has provoked panic wherever his rivals dwell, be it in the streets of Carlisle, Dublin, Dundee, Humbers– er, East Yorkshire if you don't mind.

So the award goes to the League's most charming man – oscillatewildly, manager of Neutron Heath whose tally of 294 points for the month really was something, William.

Unfortunately, I'll have to accept the award on oscillatewildly's behalf – he would have come out tonight, but he hasn't got a stitch to wear.

Well done, pivo6 and oscillatewildly. :)

Congrats pivo6 and oscillatewildly! The Neutron Heath's really tore up the charts in the New Year! Well done! And congrats are in order to Jaffa Cake's Sporting-Dual Cores as well. Your run to the second spot hasn't gone unnoticed.

On another note, anybody else getting sick of the name on top of the leader board week in and week out? Brainerd FC is so far out in front, we should make him sit a couple of GWs to make it interesting for the rest of us. At this pace, he's going to beat us next year too without having to pick a roster!

:p:D:p

Congrats, OW! And a standing ovation to Jaffa for another hilarious write-up. Jaffa take a Jaffa take a bow!

Urgh, I think my inability to channel the Berbatov will be the difference between success and failure in this campaign. I'd put him in my squad and he'd do jack; I take him out, he scores braces and hat tricks and more. I had to play my wildcard to clear out all the accumulated dead weight and injuries, hopefully I'll get back on track soon.

Thank you, Jaffa. Your squad has moved up quite nicely.

There's still a third of the season left to play, so there's plenty of opportunity for his rivals to try to ensure that Brainerd FC's 2011-12 shirts don't have an additional star above the crest.

Pivo6's side are the MacRumors equivalent of 1980s Liverpool or the 1990s Manchester United – albeit with big 'taches or upturned collars – they're quite the dominant force. All credit to him.

I drafted Berbatov in a few weeks ago. He didn't seem to be doing much so I then switched the captaincy to Nasri. Berbatov scored a hat trick, and Nasri got hurt.

I'm one of the Boltons or Fulhams of the league. My job is to round out the top ten at best.

It's official then – Lord Blackadder = Sam Allardyce.

Anyway, we've had a review of the League so it's time to turn our collective gaze onto our other competition – the MacRumors Cup.

We have twelve teams vying for qualification to the end of season knockout stage, and here's how the table stands as of Gameweek 24...

MR-Cup-Table_w25.png

Don't forget, it doesn't matter who tops the table – at the end of Gameweek 35, the top eight teams progress into the knockout stage, in which they're drawn together in a series of matches. The winners go on into the next Gameweek, the losers are eliminated. The last two teams who are left standing in Gameweek 38 will then contest the MacRumors Cup Final.

What this means is that at this stage all twelve teams could potentially win the competition – even the last placed Renfrew Meerkats could get into the top eight in time for the knockout stage.

Looking at the table, it's little surprise to see League heavyweights such as The Fightin' Shrooms and Brainerd FC vying for top spot – but an interesting tussle is starting to develop towards the bottom as a number of teams jockey for position and that elusive eighth place that will see them through.

Looking forward to Gameweek 26, the fixtures are...

Neutron Heath vs Shanti Stars
Omaha Latics vs The Fightin' Shrooms
La Selecta vs Fabulous Boyz
The Stoplights vs Renfrew Meerkats
SF Giants vs Sporting Dual-Cores
Brainerd FC vs Nieval's Angry Mob

Thanks to Jaffa Cake who has shown he can outdo any England World Cup squad and Chris Packham combined, and thank you to the rest of the motley crew. In a brief statement the chairman said, "There are those who question our accumulation of debt, but we are living the dream. Nothing can go wrong now." - he went on to thank the shirt sponsor for the supply of small blue bags of salt that helped keep the area around the ground clear during the recent snow.

To celebrate, there will be a good do, pushing pineapples and shaking trees (I think it's on the b-side of one of their 12 inches :D).

---

Humberside, East Yorkshire...; always liked Ridings - the better third being West Riding (family and summer holidays) :p

Edit - spied a new tactic by FFM, playing Vidic up front and switching a striker to defence.

What a day to pick Harper.

Cheers,
OW
