That didn't bother me. The best way to make them stop talking about him is to hit him. We didn't do that.

haha Yep, he shut us down. There's no other way to put it. I didn't expect the 9th inning to go the way it did, though. Hell, we've got a good bullpen. I figured we'd get out of that and have a good chance of coming back in the bottom of the 9th. Didn't happen. Oh, well. I really hope AJ has a quality start and we can get some run production today.

Sure were a lot of empty seats by the end of that game at Yankee Stadium.

Attention Yankee fans: you officially can never claim that other fans leave games too early. You are not more devoted than others. That is all.

Girardi better take the Cubs job so we can get a real manager.

What did Girardi do besides let Robertson stay longer then his welcome in the 9th?

Frankly, I would have had AJ pitch last night and just send him out there as a sacrificial lamb for Lee. Then have Andy get his 20th tonight.

More devoted? Maybe not. Smarter? Most definitely.

As a Yankees fan, I've complained about many things, but never about people leaving games too early. So I must have missed the "official" announcement.

I've left games early for a ton of reasons..the games last forever and more than once I missed my train back to Long Island (in high school) and Jersey (college). That's no better than leaving to avoid socal traffic.

Why do people pick on Yankees fans so?

That is all.

I would have let Andy at least start the 9th. We needed to hold the game at 2 runs. If he got in trouble pull him. Either bring Jaba or Wood in. Girardi over managed the game in hopes of getting an easy ground out but he blew the game open instead. Now we have to hope Burnett takes his meds before tonights game and doesn't implode on the mound.

I don't have much of a history of picking on Yankee fans. (As a Laker fan, I am the NBA counterpart anyway.) But I have observed a lot of smug Yankee fans saying that other teams' fans aren't "real" fans because they leave games early. Not you specifically, obviously.

And I beg to differ on the "smarter" part too. Of course some minority of each team's fans really knows what's going on, but every team has a lot of casual fans attending, especially in the playoffs when the average fan is priced out of the seats.

Besides, any team that gets that obsessed with Joba Chamberlain on the basis of 1.3 seasons can't be that much smarter. :p

LOL. I tell myself that every day. I'm a born and bred New Yorker, and I've only been living here for about 5 years. I moved down here for work, but someday I'll move back up north.

Although I can't complain about 90 degree weather in October!

And Aloofman, I was kidding about the smarter part (I think). I do get a lot of crap about my team, especially down here!

Must have made the Clemens and Berkman moves a bit awkward!

We will find out who are true Yankee fans when they go through bad times again. If people stop supporting the team, we know they are fair weather fans. If they stick with the team through bad times, we know they are the real fans. Of course the team actually has to make an effort to rebuild the team as well. Can't expect fans to stick around when all you are doing is stuffing the money into your pocket and not reinvesting it into the team( cough Orioles, Marlins, and Pirates cough).

Couldn't agree more. I've been a Yankees fan my entire life, and the first time I actually got to see them in the playoffs, I was in college. That championship in 1996 was so much sweeter because I had to watch those crappy 80's and early 90's teams.

It bugs me when people jump on a bandwagon when a team, any team, gets good. The thing that bugs me as a Yankees fan is that most people assume I'm a fan because the team is good. It doesn't take much for me to disprove that, (especially in Texas, where the baseball fans are as fairweather as they come), but it's still annoying when I have to pull out random statistics from the 80's to prove myself. LOL

While I was originally an Orioles fan back in the 90's, I witnessed the owner of the Orioles just murder the team. He either let them walk or traded away all of the teams good players( with the exception of Ripken). This happened in 1997 or so. I stayed loyal until 2003 when it became obvious the owner was not trying to rebuild the team and kept on making horrible trades after horrible trades. So since 2003, I have been a Yankee fan.

I have my own issues with todays Yankee fans which I believe I have stated a few times in this thread about how they didn't give a rats bum that Steinbrenner ditched Old Yankee Stadium and let the city tear the whole thing down. Red Sox and Cubs fans would tie themselves to Fenway and Wrigley if the owners thought of tearing those stadiums down. But, not a peep from Yankee fans. Steinbrenner has changed the mindset of Yankee fans from the teams history and tradition to just winning and only winning. As much as Steinbrenner is to be credited for reviving the Yankees, he is to be blamed as well for todays Yankee fan.

I was hugely disappointed when I heard they were going to tear that stadium down. But, honestly, what could people have done? I always said I would handcuff myself to it, before I would let them bulldoze it, but I'm in Houston now, so the handcuff's would have had to be huge!

Again, i wasn't in NY when all of this went down, but from what I understand, the city wanted the land and a park to replace the one they were taking away with the new stadium. It's heartbreaking, but really, what could be done?

I think so much of the history of the Yankees is tied into winning, it's hard to separate the two. The 80's and early 90's weren't a fun time to be a Yankees fan. Not because the tradition wasn't there, but because they were (mostly) God awful. I'm thankful for those championship teams in the 90's because I felt it renewed the tradition and glamour that is the Yankees. With success, comes the want and need for more success. Are there a lot of obnoxious, fair weather Yankees fans? Yes, but that just comes with the territory. I dismiss them mostly.

And as much as I didn't want to see the old stadium go, the new one is beautiful and I think it captures the history and aura as much as any new stadium can.

And I understand about Fenway and Wrigley, but do you think Cubs fans would trade Wrigley for a championship? Or Sox fans before 2004? I mean, at some point tradition can only take you so far.

It's not that the Yankees got a new stadium, it is how everything went down that I am so mad. Steinbrenner was shopping around for a new stadium since the 1980's. The stadium was fresh from its renovation and he wanted a new one already.

2001 was when Rudy and Steinbrenner came to a deal to build a new stadium. During this time, HOK( the people who designed NYS) stated they were never approached to do renovation plans for the old place. Which makes sense considering George wanted a new stadium. But, another renovation would have been plenty for me IMHO.

And as you stated, the old place was going to become a park. So why did the whole thing had to come down? Wouldn't you think kids would die to play within the walls and the same field as Jeter, Ruth, Mantle, etc played on( ok, really not the same field since the field went under several changes, but you get my point). They could have kept the main structure standing and convert the concourses into shops/restaurants/museum and the money made could be used to maintain the structure and park. They could have also saved the field level seats and dugouts and possibly the black. There was zero reason why the whole thing had to come down.

That is why I am mad. Even if I wasn't a Yankees fan I would be mad because I am a fan of historical places and events. And Yankee Stadium was the US's Roman Colosseum. I don't mind they built NYS per se. It is a great stadium and I loved my two trips there( especially sitting in the Legends section on my second trip. Gotta love Stubhub and the Legends poor resale value). But, it aggravates me that A) There wasn't even an ounce of consideration of doing another renovation B) Nothing was left standing.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think it's a shame I won't be able to bring my children (one of whom is named Gehrig) to the place that held so many happy memories for me (and so many others).

Unless George felt that leaving that edifice in place was an invitation to competition, down the road?

These guys with power have often been underestimated, at some peril.

What competition? With my concept above, Old Yankee Stadium would not be in condition to ever host a minor or major league baseball team again. The upper deck and loge deck would have been removed. Much of the bleachers would be demolished. Plus, no team would call Old Yankee Stadium home unless it was the Yankees. The Yankees, fans, or the city would never allow it.

Too much talking about stadiums, not enough talking about Matt Cain's gem today in game 3 of the NLCS, nor about yet another big hit from Cody Ross.
